Spearfish High School Spartan Athletic Booster Club

The Spartan Athletic Booster Club’s mission is to encourage and grow participation of athletes involved in the SDHS AA sanctioned sports at Spearfish High School. (17 Athletic Teams comprise our SHS Athletic Program.)

The Spartan Athletic Booster Club works actively on… Promoting Development, Performance and Opportunity through Equipment, Experiences, Education and Enjoyment.

• Uniting our greater community

• With students, faculty, alumni, and parents

• To support Spartan interscholastic sports programs

• Boosting School Spirit and Pride

Thanks to all of you…YOU…Our generous Community! Our Spearfish community is the reason so many things can happen for our athletes. Financial involvement and support from our local businesses, individuals, and families ARE THE PATHWAY to Booster Club Grants given to our athletic programs.

In 2024-2025, the Spearfish Spartan Athletic Booster Club has been able to fund many requests from our athletic teams and department. Here are a few examples:

• Financial partnership with Strength Training Nutrition

• Funds to support Cross Country Youth Running Programs

• Funds for attendance of Spartans at various sports camps (to reduce costs of camp participation for athlete families / to give athletes new experiences at new camp locations to expand knowledge and bond teams):

- Volleyball Gold Medal

• Funds for Design and Printing of our game programs

1. What is your most memorable sports moment? Winning the SoDak 16 game my junior year and seeing the entire community there to support.

2. What has being on a team taught you? Being on a team has taught me patience, trust, perseverance, and discipline. It has also taught me the importance of working as one part of a whole team and celebrating other ’s successes.

3. What are your future plans?

I plan to attend college for a career in the medical field. I am interested in physical therapy and plan to major in biology or kinesiology, but am undecided on where I want to go.

Being on a team has taught me teamwork, discipline, and perseverance, but most importantly, leadership. Throughout my high school career leading by example, where your actions, such as showing up on time, giving your best effort, and maintaining a positive attitude, set the tone for your teammates.

1. What is your most memorable sports moment? Winning the conference golf tournament my 8th grade year as an individual and for the first time in 6 years as a team.

2. What has being on a team taught you? Being on a team has taught me how to give and take constructive criticism.

3. What are your future plans?

I will attend college but am undecided on where. I will major in biology with an intent to go somewhere into the medical field. I am also undecided on whether or not I will play collegiate golf.

1. What is your most memorable sports moment? Going to state golf every year with the other varsity members and staying in a hotel together We got to bond as a team and have fun staying up late together during our down time.

2. What has being on a team taught you? Being on a team has taught me how to be a leader for the beginners and younger girls on the team. I know how to be a good example for others and be a good problem solver.

3. What are your future plans?

I’m undecided on where I’ll go to college but I plan to go to college for medical research and biochemistry. I want to become a medical scientist and do laboratory research for many diseases that don’t currently have a cure. I would like to continue playing golf and singing for a choir while in college along with possibly performing for a drama department.

1. What is your most memorable sports moment?

My favorite part of the season was definitely the bus rides home even after a tough loss because overcoming hard losses alone is nothing compared to overcoming them with my team!

2. What has being on a team taught you?

Being on a team has taught me mainly and most importantly how to be a team leader and bring others up when they are down. It’s very important to me to make everyone feel confident in themselves and others on the team. I ensure that everyone feels included and comfortable no matter the situation.

3. What are your future plans?

My future plans consist of continuing my academic career and pursuing my dream of becoming an ultrasound technician. If the opportunity ever came along that I could keep playing softball and still get the degree I needed I would absolutely take it!

1. What is your most memorable sports moment?

Bus rides and travel games.

Being on a team has taught me teamwork and how to work well with different people even when things are hard.

I plan on pursuing a trade in real estate

My most memorable moments have been with my team on the bus rides building friendships and great memories that we will always remember. Through a win or a loss, bus rides were always the key!

Being a part of a team has taught me to not only work hard so that I can be the best to help my team but also how to put others first and be dedicated to building relationships. It has taught be how to respect, lead and be committed so that through hard work and positive attitude, as a team, we can achieve our goals.

3. What are your future plans?

My future plan is still undecided but plan on continuing my education.

The most memorable moment playing has been the bus rides back even after a hard game!

I plan to peruse a career in the medical field, I have not decided what for or where I plan to go

1. What is your most memorable sports moment?

My most memorable moment in competition was when I was certain I wouldn’t make it into finals, but my name was called and I wasn’t ready at all. My shoes and jersey were at camp, and I was not physically or mentally ready. I have never sprinted so fast in my life to grab my shoes and discus.

2. What has being on a team taught you?

Being on the throws team has taught me what’s it’s like to be on a strong, supportive team. I have learned determination and passion is the foundation of a strong and successful athlete.

3. What are your future plans?

I will attend college and major in medical biology. I hope to continue throwing at a collegiate level.

When my fellow teammates encourage me to go past my limits, and strive for success.

To be selfless and not always focus on your own accomplishments but on others as well.

My future plans are to become a mechanical/industrial engineer, probably at Mines.

It’s important to be encouraging to everyone no matter what.

Hopefully plan to go to college for political science. But I have no plans to continue competitive running. I will keep running for fun.

Being on a team has taught me how to deal with my failures? I don’t win all the time and I know I won’t but having a team there that is by your side whether you win or lose is something really special.

Planning on attending college but unsure of which college and what my major will be.

CASEY NAUTA

1. What is your most memorable sports moment?

One of my favorite moments was at the state track meet in 2023. I got to anchor our 4x800 team to a podium spot when we were not expected to place at all. Each of us gave 100% to achieve this, making it mean even more. It was special because we had two seniors on our relay so it was a good last race for them and a perfect way to end the season for all of us.

2. What has being on a team taught you?

Being a part of a team has taught me that I am not doing it just for myself. Each day we make each other better and push towards our own goals. In cross country each of us are trying to beat our personal best times but its the overall team placement that really matters. Everyone’s placement is important. It has helped me be a role model for the younger kids and to encourage everyone to help them reach their goals.

3. What are your future plans?

My future plans are to attend Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. I have been invited to run on both their cross-country and track teams. I am planning to major in accounting/ business finance.

1. What is your most memorable sports moment?

My most memorable moment while competing would be breaking the 4x400 Spartan record at state my junior year.

2. What has being on a team taught you? Being on a team has taught me how to communicate well with others and work together toward a common goal.

3. What are your future plans?

I plan on going to college this next year to pursue a career in aviation and then becoming a commercial pilot at an airline.

1. What is your most memorable sports moment? My most memorable moment is breaking 18:00 in the cross country 5k at state. I took 30 total seconds off of my PR which made it even more memorable.

2. What has being on a team taught you? Being on a team has taught me that you can’t reach your greatest without a group of people to push you to your limits.

3. What are your future plans?

I know I want to go to college but don’t know what I want to major in. I do think that running will be a daily activity for me and I also hope to compete in some races.

1. What is your most memorable sports moment? Beating Mitchell at Homecoming my sophomore year.

2. What has being on a team taught you? Brotherhood and servant leadership.

3. What are your future plans?

I have commited to play football at Northwestern College and will pursue a career in exercise science and sports management.

1. What is your most memorable sports moment? Messing around with my teammates in a hotel room

I am going to attend a 4 year university, I will major in Aeronautical Science/Professional Flight.

1. What is your most memorable sports moment? Getting to see all the girls improve through out the years and watching them grow and get better each season even seeing a lot of them place in state when they doubted their selfs.

2. What has being on a team taught you? Having friendships and testing each others abilities and going hard on each other because they can take it because it get you to be better.

I plan on going to college for wrestling but undecided with what I want to study .
