WHAT IS CHILD’S WAY? Child’s Way® is a day care center for medically fragile children ages 0-21. As a dually-licensed Pediatric Extended Care Center (PECC), Child’s Way works as a supplement or alternative to in-home nursing. Staffed by both pediatric nurses and teachers, children receive the individualized medical care they need to be healthy in a typical day care environment. At Child’s Way, children can learn, play, and create lasting friendships, regardless of their medical needs.

WHO CAN ATTEND CHILD’S WAY? Any infant, toddler, or adolescent from birth through the age of 21 who is medically fragile or medically at risk, including but not limited to any child: Who would qualify for in-home nursing services With short-term medical needs With long-term medical needs, including ventilator-dependent children

HOW MUCH DOES CHILD’S WAY COST? designed for working families. A $32 per day child care fee is the only cost is available for those who qualify. Medical needs are covered by your health insurance. If there are gaps in insurance payments, Child’s Way covers the expense. No family receives bills for medical care—there are no hidden costs.


CHILD’S WAY HELPS KIDS TO THRIVE BY OFFERING: A pediatric nurse to child ratio better than the state requirement in each classroom A Keystone STARS accredited program as part of Pennsylvania’s voluntary quality improvement program for early learning Just like a typical day care younger toddler, older toddler, preschool and school-age (for before-an-after school care)

Safe spaces for children to play, learn, and grow no matter their medical needs Opportunities to engage with other children and develop social skills Designed for working families as a supplement or alternative to in-home nursing Services offered on site such as: speech, occupational, and physical therapies; routine adaptive equipment; and more Child’s Way is committed to supporting the child, which means support for the family

FOR SCHOOL-AGED CHILDREN, CHILD’S WAY PROVIDES BEFORE-AND-AFTER SCHOOL CARE AND DAY CARE IN THE SUMMER. MORE ABOUT CHILD’S WAY: Child’s Way operates every weekday from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. out of The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center, a

Pennsylvania and has since served over 400 medically fragile children.


Admission Process for Child’s Way: 1. Make an appointment to tour our facility with a Child’s Way nurse, the Director of Child’s Way and one of our Admission Cooridinators When you tour, please bring with you: • Your child’s current insurance card • Information from your child’s doctor • List of your child’s current medications 2. Provide a letter of medical necessity from your doctor for the insurance company. We can help with this 3. If you are working, we request a work 4. We will obtain an authorization from your insurance company 5. We welcome your child to Child’s Way! Please keep in mind, this process typically takes three weeks.
