Bringing the range report to life.
HAVE YOU EVER BEEN HANDED A CHILD’S CVI RANGE REPORT AND WONDERED: “WHAT DO I DO NOW?”
THIS WORKSHOP COVERS THE NEXT STEPS FOR EDUCATORS, THERAPISTS AND PARENTS.
Once a child has been accurately diagnosed, targeted accommodations and instruction will support their access to learning and building compensatory and visual skills.
This workshop will focus on:
Making school accessible with an instructional approach that uses adapted materials, tasks, and environments. This will help reduce visual fatigue, a common CVI symptom, and increase access to learning
Discuss the implementation of intentional and systematic instruction with scenarios that are deliberate, consistent and predictable.
Creating visually simple, quiet environments for learning by eliminating visual clutter, noise and other sensory information.
THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE BENEFICIAL TO:
Parents & Caregivers,
Special Needs Educators & Teachers of the Visually Impaired

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO ADAPT BOOKS AND OTHER LITERACY MATERIALS AND TEACH NUMERACY TO CHILDREN WITH CVI?
Teaching literacy skills to children with CVI requires an approach that is founded on the essential principles of literacy but may vary from approaches used for individuals with ocular forms of visual impairment. Individuals with CVI may be best able to access literacy when materials and methods are adapted in accordance with the CVI characteristics at the level of a current CVI range score.
Some children with CVI will achieve the prerequisites for reading and ultimately become competent readers while others will follow a different path. We cannot foresee ahead of time who will read so all children must be provided with a path to literacy and numeracy.
THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE BENEFICIAL TO:
Parents & Caregivers,
Special Needs Educators & Teachers of the Visually Impaired

TIME TO DIVE DEEPER INTO INTERVENTIONS AND STRATEGIES FOR CHILDREN IN PHASE III.
At this stage, students are using their vision in more conventional ways. They learn the salient features of the objects in their environment and can access targets in different locations.
To the untrained eye, a child who has reached Phase III may not appear to have CVI because their visual responses will look more and more like someone with typical vision. However, CVI is a lifelong condition. While an individual in Phase III has greatly improved vision and is able to sustain visual attention throughout the day, they remain visually impaired. They will continue to need adaptations to materials and specialized instruction to access and engage with the visual world.
Instruction in Phase III generally has two big themes: instruction in identification of salient visual features and discriminating targets against increasing amounts of background complexity.
