PVP Intensive: A Mother's Experience
n June, Christine had the honor of providing a 5 day intensive a very special boy named Logan. Although Christine has rovided many intensives throughout her career, this one was pecial because it was the first provided by her Pediatric VIEW am at The Children's Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family enter
ogan is a twin and when he was born, he suffered brain amage during an emergency delivery. At first, Logan’s mother, arbara, was not sure what impact this would have on Logan’s fe After a few months had passed, Logan was not meeting the ilestones that his twin brother was He developed infantile spasms and was eventually diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Much ater Logan’s parents discovered that his infantile spasms were actually a seizure disorder that would later be connected to his diagnosis of cortical visual impairment, CVI. When diagnosed with CVI, Logan’s prognosis was bleak. At the time there was ittle hope that Logan’s eyesight would improve.
Barbara had a difficult time finding vision services and professionals trained in CVI in the state of Florida where they ive. They ended up traveling over an hour each way every week o access TVI services from the Lighthouse for the Blind in Miami Logan had been receiving Orientation and Mobility Services (O and M) until last year. O and M services were discontinued in late 2022 after the professional left the Lighthouse who was trained in CVI and there was not a eplacement. This left Logan without any O and M since 2022.
“Logan has made considerable progress in ALL areas and this could not have been accomplished without Dr. Roman-Lantzy's help!.” - Barbara, Logan's Mom
Dr Roman-Lantzy has been part of Logan’s journey since 2018 Logan was diagnosed with CVI at 4 years old. When he received this diagnosis, Barbara was lost. She had never heard of CVI and could not believe it was missed by all the specialists and educators Barbara found Dr Roman-Lantzy’s work after an extensive search for answers and immediately contacted her. She attended a conference in Texas to hear her speak in person.
Dr Roman-Lantzy has assessed Logan three times since he was diagnosed in 2018. Her CVI range assessments have helped Barbara advocate for vision services as well as tailor his private therapies to his unique needs based on his range score Logan has made considerable progress in ALL areas and this could not have been accomplished without Dr. Roman-Lantzy's help!
PVP Intensive: A M
“We have witnessed Logan's vision improve and along with it we have seen progress in language, communication, independent functioning, gross and fine motor, and literacy.” - Barbara, Logan's Mom
PVP Intensive: A Mother's Experience
Barbara and Logan traveled from Florida to Pittsburgh to receive this one-on-one treatment from June 12th to June 16th. This was a 5 day intensive and Dr. Roman-Lantzy could not have been more proud of the work that Logan accomplished during those 5 days. Dr. Roman catered the intensive to Logan and Barbara's needs. The schedule for the intensive, intervention, assessment and other activities was established when Logan could most benefit.
Throughout Logan’s time in the intensive, Logan was not the only one who was learning. Barbara was taught how to implement strategies and modify current therapies based on Logan’s need. Results could be seen during the sessions. Logan was performing tasks successfully that he had not done before. Barbara even explained that she saw him transfer knowledge from the intensive to situations outside The Children’s Home. For example, he learned to play connect four during the intensive and not only recognized a large version of the game an outdoor restaurant, he wanted to go play Barbara stated, “This gave me hope that his vision can improve and he can be more engaged with the world around him.”
Christine was so honored to provide this intensive to Logan and Barbara. To learn more about what an intensive entails and how to schedule one for your child. Please call The Children's Home at
