5 Ways to Help Your Child Express their Feelings

Introduction 

All humans have feelings and emotions: happy, sad, excited, nervous, jealous, angry and worried, though children feel emotions in a heightened manner.

However, young kids aren't experienced in expressing their feelings through words, but they do communicate it in other ways.

Their body language and facial expressions can be indicative of their current state of mind.

As a parent, you should be alert to pick up the cues and clues of your young ones and address them appropriately.

Some of The Ways You Can Help Your Child Learn And Express Their Feelings: 1. Behaviour is backed up by feelings: A rude behaviour, or stomping their feet unnecessarily might be a sign your child's mood is negative. They might not directly communicate to you the feeling, but will continuously give signs of their bad temperament. 2. Name the feeling: The mind is a valley of emotions. It's good to catch their behaviour, understand the emotion and introduce the name of the feeling they are experiencing. This will give the children a context whenever they feel something similar. 3. Illustrate and Teach: Emotional intelligence is necessary for everyone. Teaching them how someone else is feeling is a stepping stone to being empathetic. Cartoon books, comics, and illustrations can be great examples to understand human emotions through dialogue and facial expressions.

Some of The Ways You Can Help Your Child Learn And Express Their Feelings: 4. Watch and Learn

Kids mimic adults. Express your feelings with them often. This way they can understand that when someone is happy, they have a smile on their face, while when someone is sad they might look gloomy. This will teach your kid the different emotional states of a human being and make them more confident of their own emotions. 5. Advantages of Communicating Emotions Kids who learn healthy ways to express and cope with their feelings are more likely to feel more competent and confident, have a positive sense of self and perform better in their educational lives by being supportive to everyone around them.
