BEHIND THE CLASSIC BAR

Behind the classic bar

IT TAKES A BRAND OF CERTAIN CALIBER TO WITHSTAND THE TEST OF TIME, ESPECIALLY IN THE DYNAMIC AND EVER-CHANgINg SPIRITS WORLD. THESE TIMELESS CLASSICS HAVE ENJOYED THE VIEW FROM BEHIND THE BAR FOR OVER A CENTURY AND EMBODY THE TRADITION AND SPIRIT OF AN OLDER TIME OF DRINKINg WHILE APPEARINg YOUNgER THAN THEY ARE.

PERRIER This bottled mineral water comes from a spring in France that is naturally carbonated. The Les Bouillens spring was used as a Roman spa and then in 1898, a local doctor named Louis Perrier started bottling the water for sale. Through the years, Perrier was used in cocktails to improve the quality of the recipe. A classic cocktail, The Americano, originally mixed in 1880 became such named when soda water was added to please an American tourist. The popular cocktail is mentioned in Fleming’s first book “Casino Royale” and describes James Bond making a request to have Perrier instead of soda water in his Americano, for Perrier, in his opinion, was the cheapest way to improve a poor drink.

JOHNNY WALKER Johnny Walker is the most widely distributed brand of blended Scotch whisky in the world, becoming popular in 1857, a time when it was illegal to sell blended whisky. The iconic square bottle was introduced in 1870 in order to fit more bottles in a space. Johnnie Walker Black Label began as Walker’s Old Highland, then in 1909, the second generation introduced the color names. Decade after decade, Black Label has won awards and is continuously appreciated for its classic qualities. The classic Manhattan cocktail, which originated in the late 1800’s, features a balanced mix of Johnny Walker Black Scotch whisky and sweet vermouth. Another classic cocktail, created for the premiere of the Rudolph Valentino 1922 film of the same name, The Blood and Sand, is made with Johnnie Walker Black, cherry brandy, Cinzano and blood orange juice.

CHILLED MAgAZINE

In 1795, Cuervo was the first producer of tequila in the world. Jose Cuervo Tradicional Tequila is bottled with 100 percent blue agave, reminiscent of the original Tequila created more than 250 years ago by Don Jose Antonio de Cuervo. In celebrating Mexican heritage, the sleek new cold-activated bottles change as they chill and when their skeletal bottle design is fully reached the tequila is optimal to enjoy. Cuervo has been enjoyed chilled, straight up, or in a mixed drink, like the classic Margarita, for years and is the largest producer of tequila throughout Mexico and around the world.
