How has technology changed over time? What is the same and what is different? Using our techno quilt, your students will investigate artifacts from different time periods, sorting and categorizing them to tell a fascinating history of technology over time.

This program takes students on a journey through some of the key events and developments in their community. Students will have a chance to explore photographs from the past, construct false front buildings and catalogue and interpret artifacts from the time period. Join us as we celebrate Christmas at the museum! Learn how families in the past would celebrate Christmas in Chilliwack. Students will make decorations, an old fashioned toy and a chocolate peppermint confection!
How do you say “friend” in the Stó:lō language of Halkomelem? In this unique program, students will create original art cards using Halkomelem words based on the artwork of Chilliwack’s Bonny Graham-Krulicki.

When thirty-thousand gold seekers traveled up the Fraser River in 1858, life in British Columbia was rapidly changing. Following the diary of Charles Evans as he describes his journey to BC in 1862, students will investigate occupations undertaken during the gold rush, interpret artifacts and taste food popular at the time*. *

Learn about the history of Chilliwack through exploration of our two exhibit spaces. Tours are delivered based on age-appropriate material and include activities based on the current exhibits.

This downtown walking tour guides you and your class to historic Chilliwack sites such as Five Corners, the Royal Hotel, the Chilliwack Cenotaph and more! 3

PHOTOGRAPHY FROM OBSCURA TO APP
Grades 4+

Gain insight into the rich history of photography! This program will take your class on a tour through our temporary exhibition: Photography from Obscura to App. Students will learn how photography has changed over time and have a chance to create their own artistic masterpieces with a hands-on photography activity.

Field Trip Supervision: We recommend that one parent accompanies each ten students.
Cancellation Fee: The program fee will be levied for cancellations received less than 14 days prior to booking. This is only waived in the event of unavoidable situations.
Ask us about our Local History Kits. Currently under development these local history kits contain reproductions of primary source materials on different local history topics along with suggested lessons and activities. Our first kit – Chilliwack’s Chinatowns for Gr.1-6 – will be available in late fall 2016.
The museum is Wheelchair Accessible.
Kits can be borrowed for $15.00/week.
