Management Committee In 2014, maintaining the Club’s operations has remained challenging. In spite of inflationary pressures and the labour crunch, the Club intensified various measures to ensure sustainability and progress across all areas of the Club’s core business. I am glad to report that the efforts have reaped good results in the various areas as highlighted in the ensuing pages of this Annual Report.
Anxiety fuelled by the Government’s announcement to

and recreational clubs resulted in lower demand for club memberships. Amidst the challenges, the Club continued to enhance its marketing strategies and these have enabled the Club to receive 164 membership transfers to third parties. A total of $984,000 transfer fees were collected from transfers to third parties in 2014. In the sports arena, our swimmers continued to excel in various national meets. Our junior swimmers did the Club proud as they emerged champion and broke 11

overcome financial challenges and reduced the deficit from $423,194 to $168,594. The positive factors that helped to reduce the deficit included continued cost-containment effort, increase in visitors’ parking rates and the renewal of existing tenants’ rental contracts. The Club’s F&B outlets also recorded an overall revenue increase of 7% to $3.44 million. The growth was attributable to the high patronage at both F&B outlets brought on by the improved menu offerings and staff’s service quality. In addition, the F&B Committee has also introduced various initiatives such as I-pad ordering system, queue system, table menu tray and self–service water station to boost efficiency so as to better meet the higher patronage at the Café.

The other sports sections remained active in their various activities and section membership base increased by 10% as compared to 2013. At the 99th Annual General Meeting on 27 April 2014, members gave their support to the Management Committee to commence renovation works to the gym, sports desk, Multi-Purpose Room and the Table Tennis Room. We are pleased to report that the renovation works were completed in December 2014 and members are now enjoying the revamped facilities.
also very proud that 2 of our swimmers were selected to represent the nation at the 38th SEA Age Group Swimming Championship. The sustained viability of the Club is of paramount importance. To strengthen its position as the foremost swimming club in land-scarce Singapore, the Management Committee brainstormed and made the strategic decision to appoint Mr David Lim (BBM) as Technical Director to revamp and propel CSC swimming to greater heights. David assumed his new appointment
The Club takes a long-term view to provide excellent service to members at all times and we shall continue to invest in our staff’s training and development. LOOKING AHEAD 1
The tight labour situation in Singapore, rising manpower costs and inflation are challenges which the Club and all businesses in Singapore must continue to face. Given the high costs and tight labour crunch, the Club has projected a deficit of $1,359,363 in its operating statement for the year 2015. The Club will continue to take measures to chart a financially sustainable organization and implement strategies to ensure that the Club is well positioned in an increasingly competitive landscape. However, the Club can only achieve these with the continued support and understanding from members. APPRECIATION

Club with high quality services and facilities, the Human Resource Committee firmly believes that employee retention and ensuring a pipeline of leaders should be a priority. The Club will hence continue to develop leaders at every level in order to create a leadership culture to drive organisational strategies for continuous growth and success. This will be a challenge going forward especially, with the current limited resources and competitive labour market in the service and hospitality industry to fill the manpower gap. 2
Looking ahead in 2015, rising manpower costs is anticipated owing to the tight labour market, the increase in employer’s CPF contributions as well as changes to the Employment Act and the Foreign Manpower Act are the few key challenges. Hence, the Committee will continue to support the Club’s human resource management to ensure its total reward scheme is competitive and effective in retaining valued staff.

Tennis Sub-Committee 2014 had been a productive year for the Tennis Sub-Committee. We were engaged in several challenging tournaments, gaining much match exposures and experiences. Section members also displayed great enthusiasm to the competitions and activities organised. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR The CSC Invitational Tennis Tournament was held on the 4th and 5th of May. 4 local and overseas clubs namely the Changi Beach Club, Singapore Cricket Club, Royal Lake Club and Kelab Darul Ehsan participated in this friendly tournament. The determined CSC Team A battled against Singapore Cricket Club at the finals for the coveted Champion title and eventually emerged as the winner. 2 overseas trips were organised in 2014, with the first friendly games against Kelab Darul Ehsan and Royal Lake Club. The trip also gave CSC participants the opportunity to watch the WTA Malaysian Open. The second overseas trip to Kuala Lumpur from 12 to 15 December was a great exposure for the team of 20 CSC representatives as they exchanged shots with fellow
players from RainTree Club, The Club and Royal Lake Club. Members were greeted with friendly handshakes and exchanged mementos as well as souvenirs before the start of the match. The results were secondary but the fostered camaraderie would be valued. THE YEAR AHEAD Moving ahead, the Sub-Committee will continue to focus on the recruitment of young and talented players to join the team. The Sub-Committee will also organise a variety of activities to sustain the interest of the current and new Section members. APPRECIATION I would like to take this opportunity to thank all CSC tennis enthusiasts for their continuous support and participation in various tournaments and activities that were held in 2014.
