nOTE FROM PRESIDENT

Dear Members I am pleased to announce that the 1st CSC Super Junior Swimming Invitational was held successfully on 3 and 4 September 2016, some 430 young swimmers from both local and regional clubs competed in the Meet. I would like to thank members for your understanding and forbearance for the temporary closure of facilities at the Sports Complex during the 2-day event. Do keep a lookout for the next issue of this newsletter as we bring you coverage of this inaugural Meet. At the 101st Annual General Meeting held in April, it was highlighted that the financial projections on the Club in the years to come would necessitate raising of subscription fees. In view of the high cost of maintaining the Club’s facilities and services owing to higher worker levies, taxes and inflationary pressures, the Management Committee is compelled to increase the monthly subscription fees for Principal Members with effect from 1 January 2017. However, the Management Committee notes with grave concern the demographic profile of the club’s members as approximately 1670 senior members are now paying concessionary subscription fees; i.e. 50% of the applicable subscription fee, which equate to loss of $600,000 in revenue per year. Even with the increase in subscription fee in 2017, more subscription income will be forgone in the years to come with the impending “Silver Tsunami” which will see 45% of CSC members in the 65 and above age bracket by Year 2030. Hence, in addition to adjusting the subscription fee, with regret, the Management Committee has made the difficult decision to cease the senior concessionary subscription fee with effect from 1 January 2017. However, take comfort that members who are currently enjoying the concessionary subscription as well as members who qualify based on the existing eligibility criteria up to 31 December 2016 will not be affected. I would like to seek members’ understanding and support as this has to be done to ensure parity in subscription fees across the board for all Principal Members and more importantly to ensure the financial viability of the Club for the long term. On a different note, for the 4th year running, the Club’s Management and staff will pool their resources together to raise funds for the less fortunate. All proceeds will be channeled to the President’s Challenge 2016. This year, the CSC Halloween Open House cum Charity Bazaar will be held concurrently on Saturday, 29 October 2016. Do invite your family and friends for this event which promises to be a fun and exciting day for both the young and young-at-heart. The F&B Department, as well as the Sports & Lifestyle Department, has lined up various activities to keep members occupied for the months of September and October. Last but not least, on behalf of the Management Committee and Administrative staff, I wish all members a happy Hari Raya Haji and Deepavali holidays.

Shalom and God Bless

Edwin Lee, President 3

Intense competition followed over the two days as ex-national players from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand joined the tournament bandwagon. CSC was closed to making its way into the semi-finals if not for the countback on point differences. The Club however settled comfortably at 5th place with a whitewash of Penang Sports Club. The last day was reserved for a much needed retail therapy before the team headed back to Singapore.
