ANNUAL REPORT 2017
Management Committee INTRODUCTION 2017 was a difficult year as the Club continued to face intense financial challenges in inflationary pressures and the labour crunch, compounded by lower income from slot machines, rental and transfer fees from third parties transfers. Despite headwinds, the Club managed to return commendable results across all areas of the Club’s core activities. This is highlighted in the ensuing pages of the Annual Report.
HIGHLIGHTS For the year under review, after allowing for depreciation and tax expenditure of $3,124,437 and $167,055 respectively, our bottom line came out with a surplus of $1,345,054, as against a budgeted deficit of $290,384.00. Contributing factors that helped to reduce the deficit included various cost-containment measures across the Club, increased revenue in all our F&B outlets as well as strict controls on deficits on various activities. The Club’s F&B outlets showed an increase of 2.5% in revenue due to higher patronage. To help cater to this increase in patronage and to be able to serve members better, additional seats and an expanded wireless billing system were introduced in Man Zhu Café. At 3 Bars, weekly band performance and introduction of a new menu greatly helped increase patronage. The Club also worked hard on the sale and marketability of our Club membership. The hard work paid off as a total of 141 membership transfers to third parties collected a net income of $777,764. For sports, emphasis on sports programmes continued to do well with the various sections recording an increase in the enrolment of newly registered sports boys and girls. Chinese Swimming Club hosted the 2nd Super Junior Swimming Invitational in August. The meet attracted 548 swimmers both from local and overseas clubs. The event was a great success and we were widely featured in the local press and social media. In addition, the Club has collaborated with Babolat and Li Jia Wei to provide our young girls and boys comprehensive training programmes in badminton and table tennis. Our athletes in tennis, billiards and snooker and bowling have also done us proud. I am glad to report that 18 members of our staff were recognized for their exemplary services at the Excellent Service Award (EXSA) 2017. I would like to take this opportunity to commend all Club’s employees for their unfailing loyalty, selfless efforts and value-added contributions in the Club’s facilities, activities and services. Most importantly, on behalf of the Management Committee, I would like to thank them for ensuring high member satisfaction year on year.
LOOKING AHEAD Although the Club has performed better as compared to FY2016, we anticipate many more challenges ahead in view of rising manpower costs, inevitable inflationary pressures but the greatest worry is the new regulations in fruit machines which will pose an anticipated reduction in jackpot revenue by more than 50%. The Club will however continue to stay focused on cost containment and explore other areas of revenue streams. Management Committee has tasked the Vision 2030 Committee to look into various areas and implement strategies to ensure that the Club is well positioned to meet the next huge challenges ahead when we need to have sufficient funds in our coffers for the renewal of the land lease due in 2031.

House & Grounds Committee INTRODUCTION 2017 marked another eventful year for the House & Grounds Committee with the improvement works to the Badminton Hall, Table-Tennis Room and the replacement of air-conditioning system at the Recreation Room, Activity Suite, Sports Gym, Billiards & Snooker Lounge and Table-Tennis Room. In addition, to maximize the existing bicycle parking area for members, two-tier bicycle racks were also installed at the Sports Complex Basement 1 Carpark. To ensure the exclusivity and safety of our members, the Club had conducted more frequent 100% membership checks. The Committee has also continued to support the Club’s property management team to deliver quality and excellence in its day-to-day maintenance, housekeeping, security and safety of the Club premises.

2) Award of Major Contract – Cleaning and Security Services A Cleaning Services Taking into consideration of the Progressive Wage Model implemented by the authorities for cleaning companies since 1 September 2015, the cleaning services employees’ wages were revised from 1 July 2017. The Committee renewed the Cleaning Services Contract with the existing contractor with a nominal increase in service contract fee of 7.47% for three years, after comparing their quotes against several cleaning agencies. B Security Services In view of the current contractor’s long standing service and reliable performance and track records with the Club, the Committee renewed the Security Services Contract with an increase of 1.92% for another year, after taking into consideration that their quotes remained competitive when compared against several security agencies.
LOOKING AHEAD The House & Grounds Committee is always cognizant of the rising cost of maintenance and will work closely with the Club Management to ensure that the upkeep of the Club facilities, its safety, security and aesthetics are administered cost-effectively and efficiently, so that members will enjoy a pleasant and conducive environment and surroundings in the Club.
APPRECIATION The House & Grounds Committee would like to express its appreciation to the Management Committee, Standing Committees, the Management and staff for their effort and commitment in making 2017 a fruitful year.

Membership Relations Committee INTRODUCTION For the year 2017, the Committee continued to be engaged in an array of membership matters. The concerted effort to improve all aspects of the Club’s membership led to a fruitful year in 2017. Previous deliberations have yielded concrete results in the Club’s Constitutional review as well as an exclusive promotion scheme targeted at new members.
HIGHLIGHTS I am glad to report that as at 31 December 2017, the Club has 8,159 Ordinary Members, 157 Associate Members, 487 Life Members, 52 Term Members and 1 Corporate Member on record. Excluding Spouse Members, Junior Members and Child Members, our Principal membership strength now stands at 8,803. In total, these conversions increase the total strength by 28. On the other hand, 309 members were taken off the membership register in 2017 because of death, non-payment of Club dues or resignation. Despite the challenges in 2017, the Club received 167 applications for membership transfers; of which 141 transfers were to third parties. A total of $777,764 net transfer fees were collected from transfers to third parties. As part of the marketing strategies, various themed events were launched in 2017 to promote greater awareness of the Club’s membership. A total of 8 Ordinary Membership and 2 Term Membership were transacted at the Heritage Trail, Super Junior Swimming Invitational 2017 and the Korean Fair. In addition, in partnership with UOB Credit Cards, new members could opt to enjoy flexible instalment payments with 0% interest for purchase of the Club’s membership starting from September 2017. As at 31 December 2017, 10 members had signed up for the instalment scheme. An exclusive membership offer was also launched on 1 December 2017. This scheme offered new members $1,000 worth of spending credits upon successful sign up as Ordinary or Associate membership. We are pleased to report that the scheme was extremely well received which attracted 21 applications for third parties transfers for the month of NO. OF PRINCIPAL MEMBERS YEAR December 2017. Simultaneously, the Committee also undertook a comprehensive review of the Club’s Constitution to support the Club’s strategic direction. After much deliberation, amendments in relation to Spouse Members, Junior and Child Members would be put forth for members’ approval at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting.

Human Resource Committee INTRODUCTION As the Club grows as an organization, we believe that maintaining a high-performance culture is critical in strengthening our core functions. People remain the most important asset in the Club’s constant aim to achieve service excellence to fulfill the needs and aspirations of its members and long term vision. The Human Resource Committee is therefore focused on supporting and facilitating the Human Resource Management of the Club in attracting and retaining critical talent as well as fostering innovation and agility through process automation to support the Club’s continued success. It constantly reviews and refines its processes to develop a dynamic and robust learning organisation.
MANPOWER STATISTICS The Club’s average operating staff strength including part timers for 2017 was 148 and staff ratio in 2017 between full time and part time was 28:1 and staff to member ratio was 1:103. Total payroll cost in 2017 increased by approximately 3.5% as compared to 2016 due mainly to annual increment, staff promotions and market adjustment for certain positions. Real wage increases for employees was approximately 2% given the average core inflation rate of about 1.5% in 2017.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR In line with its cost-effective initiatives, the Human Resource Department continued to analyse the Club’s manpower requirement in consultation with each department and reviewed the Club’s manpower strength through the implementation of job enlargement and job re-design to drive higher staff productivity and efficiency. Such review exercises will be on-going with continued sourcing and capitalizing on the availability and relevancy of government funding schemes to defray manpower costs as well as to subsidize capital expenditure for technology upgrade to meet changing needs and demands and support the Club’s vision and growth strategies. Staff training and development continued, maintained and even enhanced to improve our service standards and to help our staff learn new skills, enabling them to be better prepared to meet the changing demands of the internal and external environment. In 2017, besides the regular training, appropriate personnel were also sent to learn how to administer and use the CSC Mobile App. In addition, key staff from all departments also attended a customized training programme aimed at encouraging strategic thinking and developing leadership skills towards achieving a more motivated and effective collaboration to overcome new challenges in the Club industry. At the 2017 EXSA Awards, our staff continued to show their mettle in the delivery of excellent service to members by obtaining 6 Star, 2 Gold and 10 Silver. We firmly believe that key success factors centered around continued training and development to gear up our workforce to be more productive and knowledgeable, will ensure that the Club maintains its competitive edge in the industry. The Human Resource Management will continue to introduce and encourage both structured training and informal learning to equip staff with knowledge and skills to meet specified needs. ANNUAL REPORT 2017
Finance Committee INTRODUCTION For the year ended 31 Dec 2017, the Club had an EBITDA of $4.52M against budgeted EBITDA of $3.71M, yielding a positive variance of $807k. After accounting for depreciation and tax expenditure of $3.3M, the Club’s bottom line showed surplus of $1.21M, well above the budgeted deficit of $290k by $1.5M. Club’s effort in our negotiation with IRAS for lower annual value for its building at 34 Amber Road, resulted in to a refund received of $132k for assessment period from 2013 to 2016. This refund further increased the Club’s 2017 bottom line to $1.34M. In summary, this better performance in 2017 was largely brought about through continued prudence in management of the Club’s activities in deficit while at the same time maximizing revenue collection from its various income sources.
1. Membership Fees •
Subscription Fees: The $20.00 increment in monthly subscription fee for Principal Member since Jan 2017 had resulted in an improvement of 29.5% or $1.71M in subscription revenue as compared to a year ago.
•
Entrance & Conversion Fees: Total revenue collected from entrance/conversion fees was 14.2% or $50k lower than FY2016.
•
Transfer Fees: 141 membership transfers to third parties were transacted in FY2017. This was 19 cases lower than previous year which resulted in decline in revenue by $114k.
2. Interest Income Interest income increased by 22.3% from $241k to $295k. The high variance was due to the Club’s decision to gradually move its funds from the traditional 12-month time deposit into higher yielding but longer tenure debt instruments (eg. bonds) in accordance to the Club’s Investment Policy. Bond interest increased by $83k or 143% from $58k in FY2016 to $141k in FY2017.
3. Lifestyle & Flex Lifestyle & Flex surplus increased by 14% from $124k to $141k. This was largely contributed through manpower cost savings due to unfilled position in FY2017.
4. Food & Beverage Operation Food & Beverage revenue saw a slight increase in sales of 2.5% as compared to FY2016. Manzhu Café achieved a slight improvement with a reduction in its net deficit by 5% from $159k to $151k. However, this improvement was offset by the increase of 3Bars’ net deficit from $75k to $110k year-on-year. Higher deficit in 3Bars was due to lower sales in Lattice Suite compared to 2016. This was due to one of the Club’s corporate client pulling out from the monthly booking due to their cost cutting measures as a result of weak economic sentiments.
Reported by:
Mr Vincent Kuek Chairman
ANNUAL REPORT 2017
P15
5. Sports & Games Sports and Games operation deficits doubled from $41k in FY2016 to $89k in FY2017. The main factor behind the increase in deficit was due to lower revenues from Swimming as the Club changed the Learn to Swim programme to periodic billings and with smaller groups in the swimming classes. This will help the Club to provide quality training and better competitive swimmers going forward.
6. Jackpot Operation Turnover for Joy Luck Cove was 5% lower year-on-year. Net surplus dropped by 6% to $1.64m, $98k lower than FY2016. This result was higher than the budgeted target of $1.4m for 2017. The Club’s total Turnover was badly affected after new stringent regulations that kicked in on 1 November 2017. The Club’s average monthly turnover for Fruit Machine was reduced by 33%. The Committee foresees fruit machine operations revenue remaining uncertain for FY2018 as further new regulations will take effect on 1 May 2018.
7. Administrative Operating Expenses Administrative operating expenditure was well managed and lower than FY2016 levels and lower than the budget by 11%. Manpower cost was well controlled with 3% lower than FY2016.
8. Club Premises Expenses Club premises expenditure was $339k or 9% lower than the budget due to revision in Property Tax Annual Value by IRAS, lower electricity tariff from Electrical Retailer and lower repair and maintenance cost.
LOOKING AHEAD Although the Club has performed better compared to FY2016 by $1.37m based on year-on-year comparison, the major contribution largely came from the increase in Subscription fees for Principal Member. Without this increase, the Club’s result would show a deficit and performed worse than FY2016. As the Club is preparing for the coming renewal of the Sports Complex land lease in 2031, we are facing a few challenges. One of the challenges is the New Fruit Machines regulations which came into effect on 1 November 2017. These regulations, including shorter operating hours and no fresh funds, caused a reduction in the Club’s revenues by more than 50%. In addition, lower membership transfers and lower rental income posed an enormous challenge to the Club financially. Nevertheless, the Club will continue with our focus on cost containment and control, together with expanding alternate revenue streams. In FY2017, the Club’s spending on its Capital Expenditure was controlled due to economic uncertainty. In FY2018, the Club will be embarking on a few projects to make the Club more member-friendly and family-oriented. The Manzhu restaurant will have an extension to provide for more seating capacity and also more F & B options. A children playground for parents to bring their children to the club while they dine at the Manzhu extension in an al fresco setting. In addition, the Club will be renovating its Fruit Machines’ room to comply with the new regulations which will take effect on 1 May 2018. The journey ahead definitely will be challenging but with members’ continuous support and understanding, the Finance Committee and the Management Committee will continue to do its best to champion and establish the Club as the most prestigious swimming and sports club in Singapore while managing the financial affairs in a prudent and responsible manner, to ensure its continued viability for the next lap.
APPRECIATION I would like to express my gratitude to my fellow members of the Management Committee and the Finance Committee and not forgetting the staff of Chinese Swimming Club for their invaluable support and contributions during this term of office.

ANNUAL REPORT 2017
Food & Beverage Committee INTRODUCTION 2017 had been a good year for the Food & Beverage section. Despite sustained cost pressure and acute labour shortage. We managed to end the year with a significant improvement in financial and operational position. Major achievements were attributed to productivity gains as we invested in technology to boost efficiencies. Cost cutting initiatives were also implemented across both Man Zhu and 3 Bars. Meanwhile, we will continue to ensure that members receive excellent service at competitive prices. Our new menus introduced including Italian, Korean and Japanese cuisines were well received. We also provide wide range of purchasing options by initiating desserts and retail corner for our members. Events such as the wine pairing dinner have gained popularity and we will continue to offer similar offers in the coming year. Moving forward the team will continue to work hard and introduce more variety dining options at reasonable pricing while maintaining our financial prudence.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR Total revenue increased 1% to $3.9 mil during the year as a result of higher patronage at Manzhu. Overall operating deficit totalled $26k -. Both Man Zhu & Three Bars were graded “A” for the sixth consecutive year by the National Environmental Agency. The award was a testament of our staffs’ efforts in maintaining and upholding the hygiene standards for the Club F&B outlets.
THREE BARS
MAN ZHU CAFÉ
The Bar saw a decline in sales of 1% at $1.13 mil as compared to 2016 at $1.17 mil. The dropped in sales were mainly due to the termination of a long term lease from a tenant who rented the Lattice Suite. Despite the loss of rental income, we were able to supplement it with a high turnover of alcohol sales from wine and whiskey events. Frequent weekly band nights were organised to increase patronage at 3 Bars. We also implemented a new App called BarOS which allowed members to track the amount of consumed Whisky bottles on their mobile phones, thus increasing patronage quickly. Since 3 Bars is a popular, quiet venue to dine over the weekend, we will continue to offer alternative dining options to members.
The Café achieved a sales increment of 1%. During the year, efforts were implemented to raise patronage and reduce waiting time. The revised seating plan helped to increase seating capacity by an additional of 40 seats. These initiatives have allowed Man Zhu operations to reduce waiting time for members and maintaining staff headcount without compromising service quality. To further enhance operating efficiencies and increasing turnover patronage, we have increased the number of gadgets for wireless billing and order taking with current prices. We were able to generate higher revenue with these efforts.

LOOKING AHEAD Moving forward in 2018, we expect sustained upward pressure in manpower cost, raw material cost and beverage cost. The management and the Committee will continue to improve our operational efficiencies in order to offer competitive prices for our members. In addition, our continuous effort to offer added value to our members, we have lined up several exciting projects including the extension of Man Zhu Alfresco area, CafĂŠ at Arrival Pavilion Lobby and Pastry Kitchen. Upon completion, members will expect more quality dining options at the club. The F&B Committee is cognisant that the delivery of consistent quality and services are the key to sustainability. Thus more resources and efforts will be channelled towards improving food quality (freshness), consistency and variety offerings. Raising efficiency in operating processes will be a constant priority due to circumvent rising labour cost. We encourage members to provide feedback to help us in improving our services as we strive towards our objective in offering excellent quality food and services at competitive prices for our members, families and friends to enjoy.
APPRECIATION I would like to take this opportunity to thank all CSC members, the Management Committee, members of the Food & Beverage Committee, the management and staff for their support, contributions and hard work in 2017. The Committee will continue to focus on the core mission of offering members excellent services, value for money and a wide variety of wine and dine experience.

ANNUAL REPORT 2017
Vision 2030 Committee INTRODUCTION The Vision 2030 Committee was formed in 2015 to look into various areas and implement strategies to ensure that the Club is well positioned to meet the next wave of challenges. Chinese Swimming Club has many attributes and strengths. It is located in the heart of the east with proximity to various popular schools, direct access to the beach, short walk to Parkway Parade, an increasingly vibrant neighbourhood and conveniently near some stations of the up and coming Thomson East Coast MRT line. To realize these values, the Club needs to understand the current operating environment and how members’ needs have evolved. Back in the 1900s, Chinese Swimming Club served the Chinese community in the eastern part of Singapore with basic recreational facilities and a social gathering place. Success in sports like swimming, snooker and badminton has elevated its status in the sporting community over the decades. However, the social club landscape has vastly changed in recent years. Swimming facilities which were available in social clubs is now a common feature in condominiums. Competition has also intensified as more social clubs, including clubs like SAFRA, Civil Service Club etc., have sprouted across the island. Government managed Sports Councils have also developed their own youth training facilities and programmes, competing with independent sports clubs. The facilities heavy model of earlier years is now commoditised and diminishing in its relevance to the younger generation. Observing these changes, the Management Committee decided to re-examine the relevance of Chinese Swimming Club to ensure its continued sustainability in the years to come.
HIGHLIGHTS To better understand the profile and behaviour of our membership base, the National University of Singapore was engaged to conduct a data analytic study on our membership base. A key finding was that global demand for social clubs are mainly families and retirees. The club needs to create more value added services and activities to cater to these groups within our membership. While Chinese Swimming Club ranks highly in sporting facilities, it is also necessary to review and where suitable create additional activities and facilities that are family friendly. With the findings and the ability to understand members’ needs, the Management would be embarking on new initiates in the near future and we hope that members’ visitation and usage rate in the Club would be improved. Membership rules and regulations are also being re-examined to better align with members’ needs. With inputs from the Membership Relations Committee, the Management Committee would be proposing amendments to the Constitution to stay relevant as times and needs of members have evolved. Financial prudence has been the cornerstone of the Club. While the committee’s focus is to raise the level of value added services to our members, a detailed evaluation of our financial standing has also been conducted. The primary financial objective of the committee is to prepare the club for the renewal of the land lease from the Singapore Land Authority when it comes due in 2031. An estimate of the renewal cost has been calculated and a strategic planned reserve target has been in place since 2016. We are proud to report that we are already half way from our target with another 13 years to achieve the balance. The committee has also been working on other contingencies in the event that it is not feasible to renew the lease by 2031. This includes the redevelopment of our freehold plot to a multi-storey clubhouse that is able to house all the existing facilities. The said reserves will be able to provide substantially for such alternatives. In conclusion, we envisage the growing demand for the club if we are able to stay relevant to our community. We have charted our course and we are setting the sail to embark on this journey. We want our members to come with us on this exciting voyage.

The CSC-JTA Table Tennis Training programme was officially launched in July. Our Badminton Academy also embarked on a new collaboration with renowned French racquet sports company, Babolat, to provide trainees with a more comprehensive training programme. The overall demand for Sports programmes has increased, a promising sign for Club representation. Our athletes have done us proud in the following areas: 1. Swim CSC emerged as champions despite stiff competition from 548 swimmers, including teams from East Asia. 2. Swimming Sub-Committee INTRODUCTION 2017 was a remarkable year for Swim CSC. Thanks to the efforts of our swimmers, coaches and staff, the team clinched medals in multiple swim meets. We are proud to communicate this athletic feat, and to share that our sport has been gaining popularity. The total number of registered swimmers rose to 860 last year, and this number is still increasing.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR The 48th Singapore National Age Group (SNAG) Swimming Championships were held in March 2017. Swim CSC won a total of 39 Gold, 28 Silver and 21 Bronze medals. The Club emerged as overall champion in the junior category (12 Years Old & Below). Months of intense training paid off as 66 CSC swimmers achieved 257 personal bests out of a total of 333 events. Gabriel Low and Ricole Ong each broke a meet record in the Boys 9 Year Old and Girls 11 Year Old categories, respectively. The likewise talented Reagan Cheng broke three meet records in the Boys 9 Year Old category. These three CSC swimmers were crowned Most Valuable Swimmers in their respective age groups. The Club came in first runner-up in the senior category. We would like to congratulate Gan Ching Hwee who, despite being only 13 years old, managed to break six meet records. Five of these were also national records, and she went on to attain “A” qualifying marks in 2017’s SEA Games for the Women’s 400m Individual Medley, 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle. Not to be outdone, Benedict Boon met “B” qualifying marks for the Men’s 400m and 1500m Freestyle. Swim CSC took part in the 13th Singapore National Swimming Championships (SNSC) in June 2017. This event took place on 5 November 2017, with CSC securing third runner-up. In December, eight CSC swimmers represented Singapore in the 41st South East Asian Age Group Swimming Championships that were held in Brunei. CSC swimmers came home with a total of 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals in this meet. The highlight of last year belonged to Ms Gan Ching Hwee, who clinched a Bronze medal at the 29th Southeast Asian Games in the Women 400m Individual Medley. CSC held our inaugural Swim CSC Annual Dinner on 1 December to commemorate the achievements of our swimmers as well as to recognise their parents’ support. It was well attended by 65 parents, 100 swimmers and 7 Management Committee & Swimming Sub-Committee members. In the same month, five of our swimmers travelled to Brisbane, Australia for the Queensland State Swimming Championships from 8 to 16 Dec 2017. A Re-Opening Bash was held on 3 November to commemorate its completion; in addition to friendly games and palatable food with Members and Partners, the Section used this opportunity to hold its annual fundraising initiative. I am pleased to announce that we raised a sum of $2,660 in support of the Club’s charity efforts towards the President’s Challenge.
LOOKING AHEAD The Academy will continue its mission to groom young talent, both for the Club and Singapore. We will focus to attract more long-term trainees and look forward to hosting the 13th Edition of the Chinese Swimming Club Age Group Badminton Tournament in 2018.

Premier Bridge League 2017
CSC Contract Bridge Invitational Pairs 2017
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR Our Club hosted the final game of the Premier Bridge League 2017 on Sunday, 18 June. The League started in March and after seven rounds of intense competition, Singapore Recreation Club emerged as the winner out of a total of eight participating Clubs. 21 pairs of bridge enthusiasts from eight clubs took part in the CSC Contract Bridge Invitational Pairs 2017 held on Sunday, 30 July at the Activity Suite. A battle of wits ensued for over three hours and ultimately, a pair from the Tanglin Club was crowned champion while our very own Khoo Beng Yang and Chia Chee Liong came in a commendable third. We also held the Random Pairs, Annual Pairs and Individual Games for our Section members. Everyone had a great time interacting and thoroughly enjoying the game. Weekly Games attendance remained consistent, with the weekend attendance at an average of seven tables.

Golf Sub-Committee INTRODUCTION 2017 marked another year of generating excitement through new ideas and fresh initiatives. The challenge of reversing declining membership trends was steadfastly upheld thanks to successful recruitment efforts. Our focus continued to be “Members’ Interests Come First!” as we organised value-for-money events in multiple countries, including Singapore and Johor.
Xiamen Golf Tour Cum Hokkien Cup with SICC
15th CSC-SSC Annual Golf Bilateral Challenge Cum Ang Bao Medal
CSC Golf Patrons’ Cup Cum April Medal
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR Over 800 Section members and their guests participated in a total of 15 events, an average increase of 18% participation per event compared to 2016. These events included 11 Medals, 5 overseas Golf Tours to Danang, Pattaya, Batam and Xiamen, as well as the popular Golf Section Night. The Medals were held at Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club, Palm Resort Golf & Country Club, Warren Golf & Country Club, Austin Heights Golf Resort, three courses in Batam and also at Changi Golf Club. We held our Annual Bilateral Games with Singapore Swimming Club and SIA Group Sports Club at Marina Bay Golf Course and Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort respectively. Our golfers triumph over SIA Sports Club, contributing to CSC’s success in regaining the CSC/SIAGSC Annual Bilateral Challenge Trophy. The Patrons’ Cup was held at Ponderosa Golf & Country Club and Chng Hee Tee outdid 41 other golfers to lift the Cup. The 25th Annual Golf Championship was no doubt the grandest event of the year with 80 golfers competing at Marina Bay Golf Course. Chng Hee Tee claimed the Soon Peng Yam Challenge Trophy for Overall Best Gross with a score of 82 strokes and thus made it a double “Major” for the year. What a feat, Mr Chng!
LOOKING AHEAD We have planned nine overseas trips and tours to cater to the wanderlust of our Section members. We shall enhance competition prizes and also monitor the Handicapping system, which is unique to CSC. New initiatives will be introduced while we work closely with the Club’s Management to secure more playing benefits at Golf Clubs in the region. We will also continue to reward the introduction of new members to our Section.
APPRECIATION A big “thank you” to the Golf Sub-Committee, who worked hard to ensure that our members get the best out of each event. My sincere appreciation also goes out to the Sports & Games Committee and the Club’s Management Committee for their continuing support. Our successes were also largely due to the generous patronage from Mr Gui Boon Sui and Mr Edwin Lee. And, of course, thanks to all our Section members for being so supportive and for spontaneously coming forward to join in the fun and games. Obviously, our call for “Members must help us to help you” did not go unanswered. Enjoy the bountiful year ahead!

ANNUAL REPORT 2017
ANNUAL REPORT 2017
P51
