A M ES S AGE F R O M T H E PRESIDE NT
Dear Members,
First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who attended the 108th Annual General Meeting. During the meeting, we shared our vision of keeping our Club ahead of the curve and staying relevant to the rapidly changing needs of our members. Your active participation and insightful feedback were invaluable in helping us make informed decisions and chart a path towards a brighter future.
In the recent 32nd SEA Games held in Phenom Penh, Cambodia, we had 13 athletes from the Club representing Singapore who put up an outstanding performance. It has brought immense pride and joy to our Club. Their hard work, perseverance and commitment to their respective sports have paid off. Well done, team!
In line with our vision of fostering connections and collaboration within our community, an exclusive New Members’ Initiation Night was held in May to welcome members who had recently joined our family.
Members can look forward to the upcoming activities that the Club has lined up for you and your family, such as 5th Super Junior Swimming Invitational 2023, Mid-Autumn Festival, Cinema Alfresco and Oktoberfest where you will be able to enjoy a delectable feast specially prepared by our in-house chefs along with The Swiss Alpine Lions live band serenading the audience.
I am delighted to announce the opening of our Le 乐 Playroom. The playroom offers a safe and engaging space for our kiddos to explore. There are also dedicated private rooms for nursing mothers, equipped with changing stations to ensure safety and comfort for parents and their children.
As I was penning this message, I chanced upon an article reporting on our Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Lawrence Wong highlighting the crucial role of strong partnerships, emphasizing their significant impact. Inspired by this insight, my fellow management committee members and I eagerly anticipate the invaluable support and collaboration of our Club members. Together, we can forge ahead, exploring new opportunities and seeking innovative solutions to ensure our Club remains future-ready. Despite the impending uncertainties of the ongoing Ukraine war, the US/China dispute, and prevailing economic challenges. I am confident that our Club, driven by our financial prudence is poised to approach the forthcoming Sports Complex's lease renewal with unwavering optimism.
Lastly, I would also like to take a moment to remember and honour our late Club Patron, Dr Tan Eng Liang, who was called home on 28 May 2023. His unwavering dedication and commitment have greatly contributed to the success and growth of CSC Sports Excellence. He is greatly missed, but his legacy will live on for many years to come.
Warmest regards
Victor Chia President

The AGM commenced when a quorum was reached at 10.30am. Club Captain, Mr John Chew read out the Standing Orders and highlighted the presence of a few people, including the Club’s Auditors and Legal Advisor.
The Club’s President, Mr Victor Chia, addressed the members by welcoming members and thanking them for attending the first physical AGM after four years. He said the Club thankfully overcame all odds despite experiencing trying times during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also highlighted a few of the Club’s achievements, including revenue growth through F&B sales and lease renewal. The opening address concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation to Kendrick Lee’s sister, on behalf of Kendrick as he stepped down in this new term.
The session moved on, with the respective members of the Management Committee addressing queries from members regarding Finance, F&B, House & Grounds and Digitalisation matters.
The Office Bearers of the term 2023/2024 returned unopposed. Mr Victor Chia (President), Mr Peter Liew (Vice-President, General), Mr Jonathan Kuah (Vice-President, Finance), Mr John Chew (Club Captain) and Mr Dick Lee (Club Vice-Captain) were reappointed to serve in the Management Committee for the new term.
There was also no contest in the election of the Management Committee and Disciplinary Panel members. The 12 Management Committee members comprise of Mr Michael Leong, Mr Goh Peng Koon, Mr Chia T-Jian, Mr Steven Tan, Mr Gerard Ng, Mr Eugene Ng, Mr Peter See, Ms Christine Koh, Mr Edmund Tan, Mr Foo Choon Yeow, Mr Ong Eng Keong and Mr Johnson Ong.
The following Resolution proposed by a member was tabled:
8.1 To consider, and if thought fit, pass the following resolution: “That Chinese Swimming Club set aside all the increase of the subscription fees, retrospective from date that such increase was implemented, to a separate Escrow Account only to be used for the sole purpose of paying the Club’s future lease renewal premiums.”
The member presented his rationale for the Resolution and the Vice-President (Finance), Mr Jonathan Kuah, presented the Management Committee’s views. After a debate on the subject matter, the Resolution was put to a vote. 4 members voted “FOR” the Resolution while 54 voted ”AGAINST” it. The Club Captain, Mr John Chew announced that the Resolution was not passed.
Last but not least, Chairman of Vision 2030, Mr Foo Choon Yeow presented the Club’s vision. He addressed the future plans he envisions for the Club by aiming to create an environment where members can visit the Club often and for longer durations.
The meeting ended at 12.45pm. The Club’s President, Mr Victor Chia thanked members for their attendance and support.
