FEATURE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Annual General Meeting
The meeting held on 26 April marked a milestone for Chinese Swimming Club as it reached its 100th Annual General Meeting. Held at the Grand Ballroom, the meeting convened at 10.30am and Club Captain, Mr Nicholas Lim, on behalf of the Chairman, called the meeting to order as he read the Standing Orders for the day. There was no contest for the positions in the Management Committee and Disciplinary Panel. In his opening speech, Club President, Mr Edwin Lee addressed the meeting and thanked members for their presence. A special video montage to mark the 100th AGM was presented after the speech followed by a one minute of silence observed by all present as a mark of respect to our founding Prime Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Included in the meeting agenda was a proposed resolution to amend Articles 5A.1, 5A.3 and 11.5 of the Club Constitution. Articles 5A.1 and 5A.3 were proposed to allow Junior Members and Child Members to sign in guests to use the Club’s facilities. Articles 11.5 was to allow the Management Committee to co-opt up to 4 voting members to serve in the Management Committee. Mr Hoon Tai Meng, Deputy Chairman of the Membership Relations Committee presented the rationale for the abovementioned amendments. Members were invited to partake in the discussion before the resolutions were put to vote. Only Article 11.5 was approved by members.
FEATURE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Next on the agenda was various proposals raised by a member Mr Ho Kok Wah. As Mr Ho was not present at the meeting, the proposals were not discussed. This was followed by the query raised by Mr Tang Siew Choy pertaining to the sale of Sasha Bear corporate gifts which was then addressed by Finance Committee Chairman, Mr Vincent Kuek. Last but not least, the Club President expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Mr Nicholas Lim,who has decided to step down from the post in the new term 2015/2016, for his 13 years of service as Club Captain. As there were no other queries received, the President thanked all members for their participation and support and the meeting was adjourned at 12.25pm. For details of the meeting, the unconfirmed minutes of the 100th Annual General Meeting have been mailed to all members.
