2. SPORTING PASSION
Want to know more about sports? Read on as we take a closer peek at sports in CSC.
TENNIS Although similar to Badminton in many aspects, the rules of Tennis differ. Each opponent aims to prevent the opponents from handling a good return during the exchange of a hollow rubber ball covered in felt. A player or team will gain a point once the opposing opponent fails to return the ball.
BADMINTON The sport is played by two single players or teams of doubles with single strikes of a shuttlecock into the opponent’s court. The exchange of strikes end once the shuttlecock hits the ground, or when a fault has been called by either the service judge or the offending player.
Join the sports section and enjoy great benefits now! For more information and programme updates, please visit www.chineseswimmingclub.org.sg or contact Lam Jick Sern.
3. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Members
As the festive mood sets in, let this season be special as I invite all members to help the less fortunate in the community by participating in the various fund-raising activities organized by the Club, namely CSC Staff Charity Christmas Bazaar and Hunt On Wheels. We look forward to your generous support and participation as all proceeds from these activities will be channelled to the President’s Challenge 2014. Do turn to the ensuing pages for more information. Do not miss the final opportunity of winning cash credits when you register to receive your monthly Statement of Account electronically. This promotion will end on 31 December 2014.
Shalom and God Bless
Edwin Lee President
On more mundane matters, I would like to urge members to register their vehicles with the Club and display the car labels issued accordingly. The Club will initiate wheel clamping of vehicles without car labels when they are parked in lots meant for members. For the exclusivity of membership and to ensure security within the Club premises, the Club conducts 100% membership checks randomly. Hence, we seek members’ cooperation to show their membership cards when approached by the Club’s security personnel and/or staff. As the festive season beckons, lookout for the perennial F&B Festive Buffets as well as the year-end parties and festivities. Make your bookings early to avoid disappointment as seats are limited. The Sports & Lifestyle Department has planned some great activities to keep the energetic young ones occupied. Back by popular demand, more enrichment related workshops, creative learning programmes as well as a Christmas party are coming your way. Sign-up as a KidzClub member and enjoy immediate exclusive discounts on the various youth activities. For the young at heart, rejuvenate your body and minds with the weekly sessions of Pilates and Yoga. For the creative ones amongst us, try your hands in the Napkin Decoupage Workshop. On behalf of the Management and administrative staff of the Club, I wish all members a very blessed Christmas and may the coming year be filled with joy and peace.

BILATERAL GAMES
By Lam Jick Sern
17TH CSC – SIA GROUP SPORTS CLUB BILATERAL GAMES The Club once again retained the Challenge Trophy despite stiff competition from SIA Group Sports Club. The Bowling section scored the first point on 21 September at SAFRA Tampines then followed by fellow sports members from the Golf section who gained sweet victory on 23 September at Warren Golf & Country Club. The rest of the Sports competed on 28 September at the SIA Group Sports Club and our Club took points from Badminton, Table Tennis and Tennis to win 5-2. Though the players from both clubs displayed great competitive spirits during the respective matches, the genuine camaraderie built over the past 17 years was evident during the appreciation dinner hosted by SIA Group Sports Club.
