nd

Club Captain, Mr John Chew, on behalf of the Chairman, called the meeting to order. Mr Chew announced that there was no contest for the positions in the Management Committee and Disciplinary Panel. Following on, Club President, Mr Edwin Lee addressed and thanked members for taking time to attend the meeting. Mr Lee also welcomed Mr Ong Eng Keong, a new member onboard the Management Committee for the new term of office. At the 102nd AGM, several resolutions and queries were raised by members. Amongst them, members had proposed changes to the Constitution in relation to Spouse Membership, Disciplinary procedures and to remove the right of the Management Committee to revise the subscription fee without the approval of the general body. Members participated enthusiastically at the meeting and after much deliberation and discussion; the resolutions raised were ultimately withdrawn or voted out by members. However, the resolution to confer Honorary Memberships to Aloysius Yapp and Joseph Schooling was unanimously approved by members. The meeting was adjourned at 3.45pm and President thanked all members for their participation. THE WINNING FORMULA WITH BILL SWEETENHAM “Leaders are not your best friends. They push teams to ultimate performance. But when the teams fall, leaders are the best support. Swim CSC Coaches had the privilege to spend a week of retreat in consultancy with the world renowned swimming coach, Bill Sweetenham who groomed countless swimming athletes and revolutionised sports performance training for several countries. Coaches received new revelations on training strategies, skill acquisition on imparting skills and even sharing on character development on being invincible in attitude. On the swim deck, a crowd of budding swimmers also had their share of close up sessions with the legend himself. The Management and administration staff also scored an insightful session thanks to the kind sponsorship of Club President Mr Edwin Lee. Before Bill took off, the celebrated coach spent an afternoon with swimming parents on their roles and how they could manage expectations while working in tandem with coaches.

Mother’s Day

UPCLOSE & PERSONAL WITH BEN, CHING HWEE & REAGAN So.. you started swimming at the age of 6. What’s your winning formula or special diet? There is no special winning formula. There’s only hardwork and determination. I do not consider it a special diet but I do take my meals from Mondays to Fridays very seriously. Those are the days I need to watch my diet and know what goes into my stomach so that I can ensure I have enough nutrients to recover for my next training session. But I tend to have cheat meals [such as fast food] on weekends. How do you prepare yourself before a competition? I think about the pointers that Coach Eugene wants me to focus on. The pace that I need to be per 100m.. my turns etc.. These small adjustments will help better prep myself for the race. A good night’s rest, good nutrition and hydration matter too. Apart from the sport, what do you do in your free time? I sleep a lot especially during the weekdays. On weekends when it’s out of pool time, it’s hanging out with my friends. Benedict Boon

What’s your type of music? And favourite bands? I’m into Electronic Dance Music. Gets my heart rate up and ready to race! I love Major Lazer, Dmitri Vegas and Like Mike. What’s your goal at the coming SEA Games? To give my 101%.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? I hope to see myself training for my second Olympics in 2024 and hopefully I would have more experience in international competitions. And what about your aspiration? I hope to win a medal in the Olympics someday. What do you love about being a part of Swim CSC? I love the fact that I am always surrounded by my friends and coaches who constantly encourage and motivate me to train harder. What do you do before a competition? I try to visualise the race and the atmosphere the night before to de-stress and reassure myself. What is your goal at the SEA Games? My goal is to achieve a personal best in all events that I will be competing in and hopefully win a medal for Singapore!.

Gan Ching Hwee

How about some words of wisdom for young swimmers like yourself? Love and passion for the sport is the first step to success. You need to love what you are doing.

How old are you and what school do you go to? I am 9 and am currently attending Anglo-Chinese School (Junior). How is training with Swim CSC like? I only swim in CSC and I train 3.5 hours at 5 times a week. I do feel tired at times but the trainings gave me the practice and confidence and I was able to break various meet records. You won several medals and was the Most Valuable Swimmer (Boy) at the recent SNAG. How do you think you will fare at the upcoming meet in August? I hope to win as many gold medals – maybe 10 golds. I hope to break as many records as I can.

Reagan Cheng

What is your dream? I hope to be able to win an Olympic medal one day. 15
