nOTE FROM PRESIDENT

Dear Members The 101st Annual General Meeting was successfully held on 24 April 2016 at the Grand Ballroom. I would like to thank all members for taking their time to attend the AGM. I am also pleased to welcome my team members especially the two new inductees to the Management Committee for the new term of office. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the 2 outgoing members of the Management Committee, Mr Tay Cheng Siong and Mr Nicholas Lim. Both Mr Tay and Mr Lim have faithfully served the Club for 30 years and 16 years respectively, but they have decided to step down in this new term. They have sacrificed much of their personal time, their wisdom and made invaluable contributions towards the betterment of the Club to whom my team and I will always be indebted. The biennial CSC Sports Awards was held on 2 April 2016, this noteworthy event gives recognition to the Club’s athletes’ remarkable achievements in the past two years. Do turn to page 6 of this newsletter to read more about it. It gives me immense pleasure to note that our young swimmers have done the Club proud at the Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships and I hope they will continue to keep the Club’s flag flying high with many more breakthroughs in the near future. We are pleased to announce that the Club will be organizing the 1st CSC Super Junior Swimming Invitational 2016 on 3 & 4 September this year. This swimming meet is sanctioned by the Singapore Swimming Association (SSA) as it is the first time that a local club has stepped forward to organize such a mega event which will see participation from local affiliates of SSA as well as several regional clubs from Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan and Australia, to name a few. As the Club is anticipating approximately 800 swimmers racing in the meet, please note that all the facilities at the Sports Complex will be closed up to 6.00pm during the 2-day Meet. For more information, please refer to the Bulletin section. Get recharged this June Holidays with the plethora of enriching activities organized by the Sports & Lifestyle department. Book a seat at the Annual Youth Sports Camp which is back by popular demand. For the more adventurous ones, join Lora on her time expedition or learn more about the human anatomy at the Science Buster workshop. For the aspiring home chefs, keep a look out for the various cooking workshops as well as a shopping trip at Prima Food. Fitness buffs can get in shape with the popular cardio workout such as Muay Thai and Piloxing or get lean and fit in the various dance fitness classes. Last but not least, on behalf of the Management Committee and club management, I and staff wish all parents a very Happy Mother’s Day and Father’s Day as well as an enjoyable May Day and Vesak holiday. Shalom and God Bless Edwin Lee, President 3

CSC Sports Awards 2016 The sweat and tears invested over the past two years in pursuit of their dreams and glory for the Club was well worth it. Various athletes were recognised for their achievements at the biennial CSC Sports Awards Night on 2 April. Some athletes took to the stage with much gusto with a presentation of the opening dance to the guests. An appreciation video to thank various Sports Sub-Committees followed after that. The evening finally arrived as the deserving sports awardees received their well-deserved accolades from a star studded line up of presenters. We would like to thank the Emcee Mr Leslie Pillay from MLA Special Events, Vita Coco and Pilot Pens for their kind support of the event.

E-PUBLICATIONS SURVEY - SHARE YOUR VIEWS WITH US As part of the Club’s continued Go-Green efforts, the Management has reviewed the feasibility of continuing with printed Club publications, specifically the bi-monthly newsletters and Minutes of the Annual General Meeting. Moving ahead with the times, the Club is exploring to publish the abovementioned publications via an online e-zine platform in 2016 which allows easy access via your electronic gadgets. The Management also notes the dwindling number in the request for the Chinese version of the bi-monthly newsletter and would consider discontinuing this publication in due course as it is cost inefficient to separately produce and print the low number of copies requested. We value members’ comments on the Club’s plans in the abovementioned to go green and to reduce cost on printed materials and would appreciate it if you would forward your comments to cscgoingonline@chineseswimmingclub.org.sg so that we could serve you better. 9
