MESSAGE PRESIDENT'SSMESSAGE 2 PRESIDENT
Dear Members A big part of the Club’s Vision 2030 initiative is to make CSC a family friendly home away from home. Several renovation and upgrading projects have been initiated by the Committee to provide more facilities and services for members. I am glad to inform members that the Club is now fully WiFi-enabled after our WiFi upgrade. Members will be better connected when they are at the Club. With the addition of a new pastry kitchen in October, members will enjoy freshly baked pastries and cakes by our very own pastry chef. Members will be spoilt with dessert choices, so come patronize for tea. The renovation works for Man Zhu alfresco dining area and the children playground are both progressing well and should be completed by December 2018. Members can then look forward to a dining experience with a different culinary option. Waiting time will be shortened with the increased seating capacity. With sports and games, bowling enthusiasts will be overjoyed to know that our bowling center will have a brand new scoring and entertainment system targeted to be installed by end December 2018. The new “state of the art” and fun scoring system that will bring a whole new bowling experience to the Club. The video arcade has also been revamped to include a new range of latest video game machines. The Mid-Autumn Celebration on 22nd September 2018 at the Arrival Pavilion was a roaring success. Close to 250 members and their families came to join in the festive activities. Our inaugural CSC Oktoberfest on 5th October was fully booked with more than 200 members and guests who were entertained by a 9-pc Swiss Alpine Lions Band. An evening of Bavarian country music, flowing beer and merry making among members and guests. The German culinary fare specially prepared by our own Man Zhu chefs was complimented and very well received by members and guests. As we approach school holidays at the end of the year festivities, members can look forward to more exciting events planned at the Club. On 9 November, Alfresco Movie Night under the skies by the pool is back with a second screening for members and their families. Christmas is when all Christians celebrate God’s gift of His Son to the World. It is a time of giving and sharing. We at CSC must not forget that … let us begin a tradition of remembering the less fortunate children. The club will invite them to join us at our Christmas light-up and caroling on 30th November 2018. I urge our young sport girls and sport boys to join staff and members to prepare gifts to place under the Christmas tree at the Arrival Pavilion. Members can join the Italian wine dinner on 15th November 2018 and be treated to a specially crafted menu paired with great Italian wines. Man Zhu will be introducing a Christmas Eve buffet dinner and brunch buffets for members to celebrate the festivities. At 3 Bars, we will have a countdown on Christmas Eve and on New Year’s Eve. Lastly, I would like to extent my heartfelt thanks to all the members for their unfailing support and active participation in our events this year. On behalf of the Management Committee and Team of administrative staff, I wish all members and their families a Holy Blessed Christmas and a New Year filled with God’s Love, Joy and Peace. Shalom and God Bless.
Edwin Lee . President
MESSAGE FROM SUB-COMMITTEE
3
Dear Members, For those that frequent the Club, you would have noticed that some works are being carried out at the koi pond area. Come December, construction will be completed and CSC will have a new alfresco dining area. The new dining area will raise Man Zhu’s capacity by about 15% or about more 40 pax and this can provide relief to our members who have to queue up for long periods for a meal at Man Zhu over the weekends. Whilst this initiative started out with the intention of catering to the growing patronage of Manzhu, the F&B team decided to approach this with different perspective. Collaborating closely with the Vision 2030 and House and Grounds committees, the teams decided that it is an opportunity for the Club to raise the level of dining experience for our members. The team scoured through multiple restaurants and cafes and surveyed many of our members to finally curate an outdoor dining concept inspired by the likes of La Fregate in Paris, Café Amelie in the USA and The Albion in London. The new dining area will be situated amidst lush greenery and water feature to provide an inviting resort mood setting. The soft canopy will provide some shelter during the day but when retracted, diners will be able to enjoy their meals and drinks under the stars. A new kids dry playground will be enacted close by so that young parents are able to watch over their children while enjoying a relaxing meal. We have also revamped the menu to include BBQ selections where the Club’s chef will prepare fresh seafood and meats in front of you. Aside from the alfresco dining, the F&B Committee has also introduced a new pastry kitchen in Man Zhu. Members will be able to enjoy a wide selection of tasty pastries and hand-crafted cakes all freshly baked from the oven at very attractive prices. Plans are also underway to build a café at the Arrival Pavilion where members can chill, have a snack, chat or do some work while they are at the Club. The F&B Committee has been delivering more variety and quality food at affordable prices over the years. We are now undertaking this new challenge to up the game by offering more experiential dining options for our increasingly affluent members. The second phase of our journey has just begun and we look forward to serving our members even better. We sincerely appreciate any feedback from you so that we can continue to serve you better. I would also wish to express my gratitude to the F&B staffs for their commitment and attitude of excellence. Without their focus and efforts, it will be impossible to turn the plans and vision into reality.
Jonathan Kuah . Chairman of Food & Beverage Committee
The inaugural CSC Oktoberfest held on 5 October 2018 was a success, drawing a crowd of over 200 members and guests at Man Zhu Cafe. In preparation for this exclusive occasion, Man Zhu underwent a complete makeover with vibrant table runners, a majestic archway, and stunning dĂŠco. Participants were treated to an authentic German buffet, which included crackling pork knuckles, fresh seafood, sausages, and beer braised beef stew with Brussels sprouts. Swiss Alpine Lions, a nine-piece band, enlivened the experience with Bavarian country music and engaging cultural sharing. As the evening continued, exciting and fun games kept the spirits high, and attractive prizes were given away to all winners. It was definitely a night full of joy, excitement and festivities. We look forward to an even more successful Oktoberfest next year! Prosit!

The New
Dessert Sensation
Members may have noticed our new Pastry Chef Daphne Lee around Man Zhu since she joined the Club in mid-August. For the past months she has been working closely with the F&B team on the creation of the pastries and desserts menu for Man Zhu.
Chef Lee graduated with a Diploma in Pastry and Baking from SHATEC in 2007 and has eight years of baking experience. She had worked under prominent names such as Pizzeria Mozza at Marina Bay Sands, KT'S Grill at Universal Studios Singapore and Tanglin Club. She loved sweet treats since she was young and has gradually developed an interest in baking as a means to create her own masterpieces. For Chef Lee, baking is a wholly immersive art form and she relishes the entire process from mixing ingredients to achieving a perfect end product. She is dedicated to making sure people who have ordered and savoured her desserts do enjoy the experience as much as she does while baking them. This attention to details resulted in the creation of her signature dessert, Valrhona Chocolate Hazelnut Crunch which is tailored not to be overly sweet while maintaining a luxurious crunch. The inaugural Mid-Autumn celebration held on 22 September 2018 was a resounding success, attracting more than 250 members and their families. The crowd was serenaded by a Chinese Orchestra performance while appreciating artworks created by our very own Chinese Brush Painters. To commemorate the occasion, mooncakes, pomelos and tea were prepared. Chinese paper cuttings with Mid-Autumn designs were given away as souvenirs. Children and their parents worked hand-in-hand during the DIY Lantern Making Session, Bunny Origami Workshop, and Snowskin Mooncake Making Workshop. As always, the face-painting booth was immensely popular among our younger participants. Inspired by the hottest Chinese drama “Story of Yanxi Palace”, our décor corner featured regal ornaments, including porcelain teacups and a traditional mooncake mould that beautifully accentuated the Chinese palace-style table. Accompanied by an exquisite flower piece adorned with Vietnamese lanterns, the décor corner was a hugely attractive spot for both individual and family photography. A touch of cultural flair was added when the Moon Goddess, Chang Er, distributed sweets in traditional costume. The evening ended on a high note, with a lunar observation at the Fun Pool guided by members of the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Astronomy Club.

- SHINICIRO KUWAHARA, SWIMMING HEAD COACH Mr Shinichiro Kuwahara, or Shin as he would like to be called, joined CSC in August and is now a familiar figure seen around the swimming pools with our swimmers. When he first visited CSC, he was surprised to see the Club has such comprehensive facilities for members and so many swimmers were trained under the swimming programmes. As the new Head Coach of the CSC Swim Team, he believes and advocates training are not just for swimming fastest and winning medals but is also about building one’s strength to help the swimmers to achieve different goals in their life. Following are more thoughts from Shin for swimmers to understand the importance of holistic training. Besides physical, techniques and mental/emotional; training is also about discipline, commitment, motivation and expectation! A club can have excellent facilities, knowledgeable and experienced Coaches but Shin observed many swimmers and their families have challenges balancing the push and pull factors to swim harder or continue swimming after they reach certain age as they start to have other priorities such as academic pursuits. Most people seem to think getting a high score is the only thing to get a better life for the future. He shared many people believe the pursuit of both academics and sports is important during the young age. Only from academic pursuits, one cannot get enough physical and mental toughness. Through training in sports they can learn how to control physical and mental condition, how to overcome hardship and difficulty, it will also help them learn how to cooperate with others as a team. All these will prepare the swimmers and enhance their adaptability to relate better in an organisation and to the society in future. Shin is also of the view that from athletic sports, the sportsmen learn how to reach a goal (dream) they set and once they reach that capacity through doing sports they could achieve anything they want to be in life. The process of setting a goal to swim fast is the same as setting a goal of what you want to be in life! Hence, from the swimming activities and programmes in CSC, he feels swimmers could also learn the theories and skills of being successful in different stages of their life. His future plans for CSC Swim Team. For the past 2 months, Shin has been meeting the CSC Swim Team and their parents to see how the swimmers could better manage their time between study and swimming session so as to address the low attendance for swimming training. He understands that many people tend to find reasons why they cannot come for swimming lessons instead of finding reasons to swim every day. Training could be a hard thing for swimmers every day and he would like to show and teach them how to enjoy it by having “the right attitude. He will be emphasizing on regular things such as attitude towards listening, coming for training every day, coming before designated time, cleaning, cheering and supporting other swimmers. People tend to think they have to do special things to produce an elite athlete but actually Shin feels that doing regular things could also lead swimmers to winning at the big stage as keep doing regular things may be difficult for most people. Why creating a slogan is important! Shin believes some CSC Swimmers could reach the world level of performance. With the slogan he wants to motivate our swimmers so that they are together in this journey to achieve their goals in life and Olympics.
