Event Introduction Chinese New Year is now celebrated in most countries where there are large Chinese populations. Markets or village fairs are set up the week before the start of New Year, featuring New Year related products. In many ways, they are not dissimilar to the German markets before Christmas that now take place in many Western countries. Inspired from this tradition, the 2016 Chinese Winter Wonderland is the first ever open-air Chinese market in the South of England. It will be held at Boscombe Precinct, Bournemouth on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st January, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Besides various market stalls (including Chinese and other world cuisines), Chinese Dance performances, Kung Fu, Lion Dancing and a Chinese Fashion show will be organised throughout the programme to bring excitement and culture celebration; added to this will be cultural displays and performances from other cultures and lands, celebrating the diversity of the world and humankind. It is a free event, welcoming the local community and visitors of all nationalities to enjoy this traditional celebration of the start of the Year of the Monkey; the perfect occasion to bring the people of Dorset together and warm up the winter season with a colourful market of joy and happiness. The event is approved and strongly supported by Chinese Embassy, Bournemouth Borough Council and Bournemouth Coastal BID, in which Bournemouth Chinese School is on the organising committee and also one of the benefited charities of the event (Charity No. 1162663).

CHINESE WINTER WONDERLAND - SPONSOR & VENDOR PACK

Why should you Get involved? The 2016 Chinese Winter Wonderland will give sponsors and vendors maximum benefits from exposure and marketing opportunities. A truly unique event, this is the first and only celebration of its kind in Dorset. The timing of this event will encourage people to consume and prepare for the festive season just like the pre-Christmas Market. This is a massive commercial opportunity and multicultural celebration for the quiet winter period. The 2 day event celebrates the most important holiday and festivity in Far Eastern countries. The Chinese demographic is the fastest growing ethnic population in Bournemouth (increasing by 52% during 2001-2011). In 2015, it was estimated that there are 1,990+ Chinese people living in Bournemouth; and more than 2,000 members of other Asian nationalities. This means that not only is the “Chinese market” growing, but the general “interest in Chinese culture” by nonChinese people is also growing; this is also having a beneficial effect on interest in Asian cultures generally: Chinese New Year is becoming a cultural phenomenon of global importance. This makes sponsorship of the event an excellent marketing opportunity for your company to reach out to the diverse population of Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset. We will work with corporations, local businesses, and community organisations to achieve cross promotional marketing opportunities and maximum exposure for your company. The unique value propositions of our event include but are not limited to the followings: • A prime location at Boscombe Precinct – the heart of Boscombe which is the most populated area in Bournemouth (by Bournemouth Borough Council Statistics 2015) • 10,000+ expected attendees over the weekend with a diverse audience from all over Bournemouth, Poole and near-by areas of Dorset • Over 20,000 potential customer impressions from extensive advertising channels • Spacious venue for over 40 vendor stalls • Partnership with local schools and diverse communities to attract hundreds of students and families for this fantastic fun-filled market • Live entertainment with Chinese dance, fashion show and the unique Chinese Lion Dance - this is the first out-door performance of its kind in Bournemouth! • Free interactive games, toy booths, and arts & crafts workshops • Ample and convenient parking Charitable Cause: Your contribution will benefit the local community through different projects by Bournemouth Chinese School such as a Radio station for less able youth, a telephone Help Line to support all less able English speakers breaking down the language barrier and accessing services more easily - boosting quality of life and community cohesion, and counteracting effects of isolation or discrimination, that people from ethnic minority communities sometimes experience.
