ABOUT
Creativity and curiosity paired with my ability to learn and understand things quickly have always been my strengths. These traits have proven to be useful in finding unconventional solutions to demanding problems.
My father started his own furniture factory and was also involved in construction, music, and photography. Although I was interested in design and photography from a young age, I bought my first camera in 2012 after being influenced by my older brother who does photography too. In short, design and ingenuity is something I inherited.
From a young boy who loved to draw to a young man practicing architecture and highly into design, craft, and photography, visual storytelling has always been a part of me. Being a man of few words, I am inclined into expressing myself through my visual work.
This architectural portfolio is a brief selection of projects that showcase my architectural skills.

ICON GETAWAY BEACH HOUSE
A house that explores the aesthetics of a beach house embracing its environment. The Icon Getaway Beach House looked at what makes a “Beach House”. Materials and forms were studied to create a cottage house with a contemporary interpretation of coastal architecture.
The private spaces (three en-suite bedrooms) are arranged in a manner to frame the living spaces. This in-turn brought about an organic flow within the given spaces.
The spatial arrangement also maximises the views to the beach and Lake Malawi from all the rooms and living spaces. This arrangement also took into consideration privacy within the rooms as the client intended to use the cottage as a family get-away and also host friends simultaneously.
Natural and readily available materials, such as stone, timber, brick and concrete are emphasized. This is done to express the strong connection to the beach house’s natural surroundings whilst maintaining a simple and attainable design.
HOUSE TWENTY SEVEN, BLANTYRE
House Twenty Seven is built on a footprint of a demolished 1 bedroom social housing townhouse. The new design takes formal and tectonic references from its context whilst achieving a clean contemporary aesthetic. This two bedroom townhouse is constructed from concrete cinder blocks and fully cladded in IBR roof sheeting. The IBR roof sheet is given a seamless look by cranking (rounding) the bends. This creates a rounded ridge similar to the asbestos roof sheet ridge that was on the previous house.
The emphasis for this design was to explore an attainable architectural composition that is affordable whilst uncompromising in its details.

STUDIO
MASTER: ANDREW PALFRAMAN, BRYAN WINTERMEYERThe design of a bicycle manufacturer, in Airport Valley, Gqebera Township, Walmer, explores the potential for industrial areas to contribute positively to their surrounding urban landscape with a focus on the ‘urban poor’ environments.
On an urban scale, the project stands as a gateway, and urban ‘playscape’ to Airport Valley which is an informal settlement, surrounded by industrial, commercial, and suburb areas which pose as barriers instead of connectors to social and economic opportunities.
The design plays on the concept of the roof as a ‘walkable continuation of landscape/playscape’ whilst dealing with a contrast of privacy and openness. As the design is of an industrial building, materials that have the potential to enhance the working environment are explored whilst realizing the need for the materials to be economical and yield a return on investment. Therefore, a timber
structure made of cross laminated timber roof resting on glulam timber beams and columns is used as an environmental friendly alternative to typical concrete/steel construction, with the potential of a connection to wellbeing for the users of the building.
The structure is design to be premanufactured as parts in a factory and assembled together on site paying reference to the idea of how a bicycle is made.

MUBAS DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL
PROJECT: CONCEPT BID PROPOSAL FOR MALAWI UNIVERSITY OF BUSINESS AND APPLIED SCIENCES (MUBAS)
CONCEPT DESIGN: CHIPOSI SINALO (MOD CHARTERED ARCHITECTS)
LOCATION: BLANTYRE, MALAWI
Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) required a Bid Proposal for the design of a 12 Storey Postgraduate Complex, an 18 storey Administration building and an 8 storey Learning
center. This was to be implemented on an existing campus’ front entrance / parking area. Even with the compact nature of the site, a design was conceptualized which maximised the site’s potential. This was done by raising the ground level which created a more efficient parking space underneath whilst allowing for a new, raised front face and open courtyard. Consideration was taken to ensure the existing is visually framed and also physically connected to the new using bridges.
(2020 LILONGWE CITY COUNCIL FUTURE
DEVELOPMENT COMPETITION ENTRY)
Wenela Park sets itself as a mixed use commercial square catering for a market, retail, offices, and mass parking. The Park defines itself as a ‘melting pot’ for a large variety of people and as an economic catalyst connecting all levels of economy (from the farmer selling his produce to the businessman making international deals). Wenela Park is envisioned as central to African Economic Excellence, whilst portraying African and Malawian virtues.
Being geographically in a central space between Lilongwe Old Town and New Town, the location renders itself as critical for a possible connection to two high energy roads (Kenyatta Rd and Chilambula Highway). With that in mind, the main design defining feature is a central boulevard going right through the site generating the necessary influx for the market and retail spaces. This then allows the program to be split according to privacy needs. Therefore, the MultiLevel Market and the Multi-level Parkade is located on the South of the site. This then leaves the Offices and Retail Space on the North of the site. The layout of the buildings allows ample light and enough separation between the programs to function as needed.
The structure although using mostly light elements like steel, glass, and screened facades, brings about bold forms. The use of Gold, Bronze and Light represent Africa’s richness in wealth, diversity in culture, and intelligence respectively. Wenela Town Square is a symbol of African Pride.

QECH CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
PROJECT: ADDITIONS AND RENOVATIONS FOR THE QECH CHILDREN’S PAEDIATRICS A&E UNIT ARCHITECT: PATRIC CALISSE (MOD CHARTERED ARCHITECTS) DRAWINGS AND SITE INSPECTION: CHIPOSI SINALO
LOCATION: BLANTYRE, MALAWI
Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital is the largest public hospital in Blantyre. The hospital caters to a broad spectrum of patients, including children. The children’s Accident and Emergency Unit needed renovations and additions to optimize its functionality and better serve the influx of patients. The project involved re-imagining the hospital’s usage, thus renovating the A&E (Block 1) and Short Stay (Block 3), and constructing a new staff block (Block 2).
Illustrated are the images of the finished works (left) and the in-progress photos (above). The next spread shows selected technical drawings of Block 3.
