September spike in Covid cases recedes

Parts of Chiswick ranked amongst London’s highest Covid-19 infection rates in September.

Chiswick South West, the area covering Strand on the Green and parts of Grove Park, had a case rate of 434.4 per 100,000 population in the week to 13 September. This represented a one third increase from the previous week despite an overall lower level across London. Bedford Park also saw an increase of case numbers by a margin of 90.9%.

Ealing found itself holding one of London’s highest infection rates at 277 per 100,000 weekly in early September, with Hounslow close behind at 266 per 100,000. Fortunately, both boroughs saw numbers fall significantly in September. No corresponding increase in hospital admissions has been reported following the spike. Admissions at The Imperial College Healthcare Trust’s local hospitals have remained solidly in single figures each day since July compared single figures each day at the beginning of the year.

Up to and including 15 September 5,838,305 people in London had received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 5,232,885 had received two doses. The booster jab is also now being rolled out locally.
