Home remedies for migraine Do you feel like your head might explode? Do you frequently get this throbbing pain on one side of your head which is accompanied by nausea, vomiting and extreme sensitivity to light and sound? This is commonly known as migraine. “Migraine is a neurobiological disorder involving both neurological and vascular changes in the brain during an attack,” says Susan Broner, MD, Medical director of Manhattan Headache Center in New York City. So why does it occur? Well no one knows exactly why it happens but it usually begins with the excitement of nerve cells. You might think it’s a normal headache but if it occurs on a regular basis it is a migraine. You tend to experience some symptoms before the migraine which are mood change, tiredness, yawning or feeling off balance. This can last up to 8 to 10 hours. During the migraine the symptoms that are noticed are: throbbing pain, nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. This may mast up to 4 to 72 hours. The symptoms after migraine are: lingering headache and tiredness that can last up to 24 hours. Usually migraine is triggered by an unbalanced in your diet, sleep disturbance, environmental factors and many more.

When it comes to curing a migraine attack there are many medications out there but a natural home remedy is the best. Here are some home remedies that can help you cure your migraine. 1. Apple Cider Vinegar: as it is a nutritional powerhouse, it helps reduce migraines. It acts like a detox which helps control blood sugar, blood pressure, bone pain. How to take it:  Add 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water  Mix in 1 tbsp of honey  Drink this daily to prevent as well as treat migaines


2. Ice Pack: this is one of the most popular home remedy to get rid of tension as well as migraine. How to take it :  Wrap a few ice cubes in a clean towel and apply it on your forehead for about 10 to 15 min.  You could also try alternating hot and cold compress for about 15 min. For best results using lavender/ peppermint oil in the water as you compress it to your forehead. 3. Peppermint: This is the best treatment that sooths the nerves, pulse has a calming effect. How to take it:  Drink peppermint tea. Instead of putting sugar try honey.  You could also massage your forehead with a drop of peppermint; leave it on for about 20 to 30 min. Do this a few times in a day. 4. Chamomile: This has properties that are anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that help relieve migraines. How to take it:  Steep 3 to 3 teaspoons of dried chamomile flowers in a cup of hot water, keep it soaked for a few minutes.  You can also add some lemon juice and honey. Strain the tea and drink. Have it at least four times a day. 5. Ginger: this proves its effectiveness in treatment of common migraines. How to take it:  Drink ginger tea a few times throughout the day till you get some relief from the headache.  Chew on a piece of raw ginger this will also help in relieving you from the symptoms like nausea and digestive distress. 6. Massage: massaging your head helps ease the pain. This helps as it blocks the pain signals that the brain receives. How to do it:  Massage your head with your first two fingers in a circular motion. Know where your pressure points are located which are the base of the skull, middle of the forehead and the corners of the eyes. Pressing these points will help relieve the pain.  Heat two tablespoons of sesame oil, mix in one and a half teaspoon cinnamon and cardamom powder. Apply this mixture to your forehead, massage it leave it on for a few hours then wash it off. 7. Coffee: A strong cup of coffee can help you ease the headache symptoms. As it contains caffeine that restricts blood vessels and blocks certain receptors that could be causing the migraine. How to take it:


 Add a few drops of fresh squeezed lemon juice to your coffee. Warning: Caffeine may trigger migraines in some people. 8. Apples: As soon as you get the fit symptom of your migraine beginning to start up, eat an apple as it can help reduce the problem. Research suggests that the smell of a green apple can help reduce the severity of the migraine.
