History When Dick Hayne was approached by a friend who had just moved to Philadelphia, and was looking for a retailer that had unique items, and was a generation up from Urban Outfitters.

He began brainstorming what to he needed to do to fill that void in her wardrobe. Eventually he went to build a store for the “creative, educated & affluent woman, 30-45 years old.� In 1992, Anthropologie opened their first doors in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Today, the brand boasts over 200 locations worldwide! Anthropologie is owned by URBN, who is also the parent company of Free People, Urban Outfitters, Terrain and BHLDN.
