Welcome to the seventh issue of Idle
Welcome to the seventh issue of Idle words by Chloe Ray
Can I call this an Editor's note?
In this issue we look at the topic of Strength and Power. I asked the contributors for their thoughts on the idea I had posed to them – had they been on a trip which meant they had to be phsyically strong or had they done an act of bravery? Had they been fortunate to be empowered by someone or something? Or, in a time of need, had they received help? I wanted to show tales of empowerment, selfconfidence and wellness. These qualities have been a prevalent thing in my life at the moment. The past year has been tremendously hard and it has shown in the lack of work in Idle. So I'd like to take this moment to thank those who have stuck with Idle and ultimately thank those who have helped me in the last few months. As you may have noticed, this copy is smaller than usual but I hope it brings you joy and maybe teaches you something new.

A documenter
words and photography by Sarah Escue
Thoughts of the body. “The work is always empty, always selfcreating.” –Giovanni Singleton The body is a recorder, a documenter. Creating and sharing art is a way in which we can replenish and reconnect with the world, our ancestors and ourselves. From our wounds, a new world can emerge. The body allows us to create a dialogue, an experience, and this can be a truly empowering journey. We emerge from the ground, and we return to the ground. Power of Nature words and photography by Risiana Levie
A trip to Iceland tell tales about the relationship between nature and mankind. About three years ago I was at a point in my life where I had the urge to get away. To get away from the life I had and explore something new on my own. I decided to go to Iceland, a place I had never been and where nobody I knew had ever been either. Travelling alone was not really something that the people around me understood. But I was committed to stick with my plan, something I did not regret. Going to Iceland became one of the best trips I had made so far. It felt like being on the moon, roaming a landscape that had a lot of different stories to tell. I experienced the real power of nature; extreme winds, unexpected weather changes, immense surroundings, and a wondrous winter scape. I felt overwhelmed and enchanted by the country. The mysterious stories about elves, trolls, huldufólk (‘hidden people’), and Nordic figures created a world on their own. All
these tales tell something about the relationship between nature and mankind. It made me think about the position of people in the world and the way we are now tempted to think that we are able to tame nature. But we aren’t. Being in a place where nature clearly takes control, made me appreciate the power and strength of nature. The mesmerising beauty of Iceland’s nature encouraged me to keep exploring and gave me the power to do something I love: telling stories through photography. These photographs are taken in 2015 and 2017 in South and East Iceland. See more of Risiana's work at www.risianalevie.com

Scotland
words and photography by Emmanuel Provost
A recent trip away shows the true awesomeness of Nature. I took these pictures during a recent trip to Scotland. It was last winter, the weather was sometimes pretty bad and we were often alone in the places we've been. It was quiet. Sometimes we didn't feel really well. Maybe because everything there makes you feel small and uncomfortable. So it's not really a story of self-confidence, but more a description of how impressive and powerful nature can be. I think those pictures try to show that. See more of Emmaunel's work at www.flickr.com/142722244@N04/
