Report & photos by Edward Price
The Old Timer Tractor Rally held on the 6th & 7th of August at The Parks near Ludlow in Shropshire, now in its 3rd year, brought together over 200 pre 1950 tractors, cars, commercials, stationary engines and working displays.
Exhibitors from all parts of the Country travelled to attend the event. The parade ring open all day allowing exhibitors to parade as often and as long as they liked, thus giving the public all day viewing, with Andy Johnson giving a detailed commentary with his wealth of knowledge of the older tractors.
The display of tractors, the oldest being Kevin Watson’s 1904 Sharp built in York, started the line up of over 50 pre 1930 tractors and then up to the 1950 County E27N P6 of James Hardstaff.
The Boyt Brothers 1915 Weeks - Dungey Simplex made it’s first appearance along with William Engleman’s Allwork 16-30. Regulars, the West family brought along their 1915 Case 12-25 and 1917 Avery 8-16, the Bownes family their 1916 IHC Mogul 8-16 and 1919 Fiat 702, Malcolm Robinson a rarely seen 1921 Wallis K3, Edwin Hughes 1925 Case 18-32 are only a few of the tractors on display.
The commercials started with Andrew Wheeler’s 1921 Sentinel Standard, the cars with Harold Bakers 1907 IHC High Wheeler and the stationary engines with Chris Dance’s 1897 Lee Gas Engine.
The thrashing display, run by Mike Lawrence, Dai Thomas, Chris Nicholson, Wyn and Cefin Mathias featured Mike’s International 36 Thrasher driven by Dai’s IHC Titan and Wyn’s Jones Superstar Mk4 baler, driven by his Allis Chalmers model U.
The event was attended by The Ford & Fordson Club and International Harvester Heritage Association, both displaying members’ tractors.
Organisers Edward Price and Chris Tranter said they were very pleased with the weekend and look forward to next year’s rally on the 5th & 6th of August 2023. They would like to thank the Hyde family for use of The Parks, all helpers and exhibitors that make the event happen.
