IndependentLivingCommunitiesofferamenitieslikearegularapartment communitybuthaveaminimumagerequirement.Insomecommunities,the minimumageis55,andinothers62.Somemayofferareducedrentrateforthose whoqualify.Someoftheseseniorcommunitieshaveapool,communityroom,and activities.Theymayormaynotoffermealservices.

RESIDENTIALCAREHOMES

Residentialcarefacilitiesproviderooms,meals,andpersonalcareforthosefinding itdifficulttoliveathome.Personalcaremayincludeassistancewithbathing, dressing,takingmedication,andhelpwithtoileting.Residentialcarefacilitiesare mostlikelyasingle-familyhome,caringforasmallnumberofadults.

ASSISTEDLIVING

AssistedLivingCommunitiesofferhelpwithallaspectsofdailylivingsuchas bathing,grooming,anddressingassistance,insemi-privateorprivatelivingunits. Most assistedlivingfacilitiesofferawiderangeofservicesandamenitiessuchas meals,educationalclasses,exerciseactivities,andbeautyparlors.Someallowresidentstohavepets.

MEMORYCARE

Memorycarefacilitiesprovidespecializedcareforthosesufferingfromdementia orAlzheimer’sdisease.Individualswiththeseconditionsoftenneedexpertcarein asafeenvironment.Memorycarefacilitiesofferenhancedmedicalservices,social activities,24-hoursupervision,anddailymeals.Memorycareunitsofferincreased securityforthosewhomaywanderduetodementiaorAlzheimer’s.

ADULTDAYCENTERS

Adultdaycarecentersofferavarietyofprogramsandactivitiesdesignedto promotewell-beingthroughsocialandhealthrelatedservices.Adultdaycare centersoperateduringdaytimehours,usuallyMonday-Fridayandprovideasafe, supportiveenvironment.Mealsaretypicallyincludedandsnacksduringtheday.

HOSPICE

Atsomepoint,itmaynotbepossibletocurethosewithaseriousillnessanda personwithaterminalillnessmaychoosetodiscontinuetreatment.Hospicecare offerscomprehensivecomfortcareandsupportforthepatientandtheirfamily. Thehospiceteamincludesphysicians,nurses,socialworkers,chaplains,and trainedvolunteers.Hospicecarecanbeprovidedinthehome,nursinghomes, hospital,andinaspecializedhospicecenter.Thecareteamvisitsregularlyand providessupport24/7.

HOMEHEALTH

HomeHealthcareisawiderangeofhealthcareservicesthatisprovidedinthe homeafterillnessorinjury.Skillednursing,physical,occupationalandspeech therapies,aswellassocialservicesmaybeprovidedbasedontheneed.Home healthisusuallylessexpensive,moreconvenient,andjustaseffectiveasservices providedinaskillednursingfacility(SNF).

SKILLEDNURSINGFACILITIES

ASkilledNursingFacility(SNF)isaspecialfacilityorpartofahospitalproviding necessarymedicalandprofessionalservicessuchasnursingcare,physical, occupationalandspeechtherapies.Staysinskillednursingfacilitiesarenormally temporarytoresolveamedicalneedorfurtherrecoverfromarecenthospitalstay.

REHABFACILITIES

RehabFacilitiesprovidespecializedmedicalcareandcomprehensiverehabilitative services(physical,occupational,andspeechtherapy)tothosewhoareinjured, disabled,orsufferwithadisabilityduetoastrokeorotherdebilitatingdisease. Patientsadmittedtoanacuterehabilitationfacilityareexpectedtomake functionalimprovementsinactivitiesofdailyliving.

NURSINGHOMES

Nursinghomesprovideresidentiallong-termcarefortheelderlyordisabled. Nursinghomesoffercustodialcarelikebathing,dressing,andfeeding.
