Aaron Carroll
Head Baseball Coach Aaron Carroll enters his seventh season at the helm of the Hawks baseball program. Carroll's teams have finished above .500 five out of the last six seasons. This past season he guided the program to a 24-23-1 overall record and 3rd place CIAA finish. He also helped produce the CIAA Player of the Year Justin Bagbey and CIAA Rookie of the Year Brandon Mack. Bagbey also earned Atlantic Region and All-State honors last season. Seven players earned All-CIAA honors under Carroll’s Direction last season. In 2008 the program set records for most-ever wins after finishing 36-20 on the year. During the same season, Carroll saw two players earn NCCAA All American honors, one NCCSIA AllState player, and six players earn NCCAA All South Region. Carroll notched his 200th win as a collegiate head coach after claiming the 2008 NCCAA South Region Title. For the second time since coming to Chowan Carroll guided his squad to a NCCAA South Region Championship and an appearance at the NCCAA World Series, where they finished in 4th place. His program set records for most-ever wins after finishing 36-20 on the year. This season he saw two players earn NCCAA All American honors, one NCCSIA All-State player, and six players earn NCCAA All South Region. Carroll notched his 200th win as a collegiate head coach after claiming the 2008 NCCAA South Region Title against Emmanuel College in May. Carroll is no stranger to the school and the baseball program. He first came to Chowan as a student in 1994 where he played one season of baseball under then head coach Mike Bocock. After finishing his eligibility Carroll stayed on to serve as a student assistant coach until he finished his degree in Health and Physical Education in 1996. He was hired as a full-time assistant coach upon his graduation, where he remained in that position until the summer of 2000. In his first season as head coach Carroll guided the Hawks to a 27-15-1 overall record and an NCCAA South Region Championship. The Hawks earned a berth to the NCCAA World Series in Chattanooga where they finished 5th in the nation. After leaving Chowan as an assistant coach in the late summer of 2000 Carroll accepted a volunteer assistant’s position at Tennessee Tech University, an NCAA Division I school and member of the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference. After some position changes in the program, Carroll was named interim head coach in December of 2000. That spring he led the Golden Eagles to an OVC Tournament Championship and a NCAA appearance. Carroll went on to lead the Golden Eagles to two more conference tournament appearances. In the fall of 2004 Carroll resigned his position at TTU and took an instructor’s position at the Birmingham Baseball Academy in Alabama.

Chowan University is a four-year co-education intuition. It is the second oldest of North
Carolina's seven Baptist Colleges. Chowan opened in 1848 as a four year college for women, Chowan Baptist Female institute. It was renamed Chowan College in 1910, admitted male students in 1931, and established itself as one of the leading junior colleges in the South in 1937. In 1992 the college returned to four year status. In April of 2006 Chowan President, Dr. M. Christopher White announced the changing of the institutions name from Chowan College to Chowan University. The University fulfills its mission with a careful blend of both liberal arts and professional courses. Recognizing that such a blend of knowledge and experience is particularly suited to the needs of contemporary society. Chowan takes as priority the need to connect general education with specialized education, theoretical learning with practical learning, and intellectual skills with vocational skills. Set amid 300 acres of woodlands embracing beautiful Lake Vann, Chowan’s main entrance leads gracefully around a college green to an antebellum mansion known as the McDowell Columns Building. Sixteen major buildings of contemporary design provide air-conditioned residence, academic and recreational facilities. The small-town university campus attracts students from at least twenty seven states and several countries each year. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools fully accredits Chowan University to offer the bachelor’s degree.

Chowan University stands in the old Albemarle region of North Carolina between the Roanoke and Chowan Rivers in the northeast corner of the state. The Murfreesboro area was first settled during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, when the principal inhabitants were several Indian Tribes such as the Chowanokes. Today, the stately old homes seem to whisper of the storied colonial and antebellum days. Murfreesboro is located approximately 60 miles from Norfolk, Virginia and 120 miles from Raleigh, North Carolina. Murfreesboro is the location of the boyhood home of Dr. Walter Reed, discoverer of the cure for yellow fever, and home to Richard Jordan Gatling, the inventor of the Gatling Gun. Tours and special events are offered throughout the year by local groups.
