SPELLING OUR PROJECT’S NAME WITH FAIRY LETTERS...

A POSTCARD FROM THE LITTLE PRINCE GIVES US INSPIRATION AND…

‌. nine teams of adventurous kids, who loved books, met in the land of ETwinning. They got on very well with each other, so they decided to set off on a quest for the golden Chalice...Before leaving, they met a good magician to ask for advice and he predicted that they should always stay together in order to pass many Adventures successfully. The night before they started, they cooked their own pizza and a crunchy, sweet baklava and had a wonderful feast together.

COOKING BAKLAVA BY THE BOOK!

So, the next day, when the dawn cracked, they started their journey to find the precious golden Chalice. In a short time, they reached a lovely deep forest and made up their mind to rest. A little bird flew near them and chirped that the first Adventure was ahead of them. They had to create the most beautiful picture in the world. They got down to work and managed to create many beautiful pictures.Their pictures were so lovely that the sun winked at them and the birds sang their most melodious song for them. One of the images seemed to capture the spirit of their quest the most and the children called it their Project’s Favourite Logo.

They started their journey again. They went through many towns and villages and finally, reached a beautiful pebbly beach.A seagull flew near them and cried out the new Adventure. They had to think and describe what a book is.They sat on the pebbles and gazed at the calm sea before them, when ideas started flooding their mind...

ADVENTURE TWO: A BOOK ON WHAT A BOOK IS… This is our Common Book in which we share our thoughts on the idea of the book...

So, their book was ready!Time to leave! A city was their next stop. They were crossing a big road crowded with cars, when they saw three large recycling bins on the sidewalk. There was a sign on one of them and they could read the letters flashing rapidly in front of their eyes: ‘ADVENTURE 3: CREATING AND EXCHANGING BOOKMARKS’. It was obvious that the bookmarks they would create, should be made with materials found in the bins! They searched in them and they found old books and newspapers, plastic objects, old clothes ...they even found an old table lamp! They got so excited with all these old treasures that they were ready to do miracles! They set their imagination free and...loads of beautiful, original bookmarks came alive and hopped gleefully in front of them!Bookmarks made of plastic, bookmarks made of old fabric, bookmarks made of paper and beads from the table lamp ...They even created bookmarks that looked like old lace, as a girl knew how to knit… And this was only the beginning….Another girl made exquisite flowers out of old books and some other kids made extraordinary jewellery and paper animals…. They were so happy they started exchanging their fantastic creations...

adventure three:creating and exchAnging bookmarks

adventure three:creating and exchAnging bookmarks The Greek team created original bookmarks that looked if they had escaped from the land of fairy tales...Some of them were knitted, some others were made with beads or vintage fabric. They were sent to the Portuguese team on 3/3/2017 along with a flowery card on 3/3/2017...

Later, they realized they had to resume their journey…After their last Adventure, they had come closer to each other, so the little adventurous bookworms agreed to take shots of people reading in beautiful places they visited, as they passed by. ‘In this way, we will freeze time and remember what we saw during our journey for ever’, they thought. Thus, they captured images of people reading on monuments, by the sea, in cafes and in short, everywhere. They even met a cat wearing glasses and reading a newspaper! ‘What a clever cat!’, they thought and burst out laughing! Our friends took loads of amazing photos of people and strange animals reading and cherished all of them in their heart!

ADVENTURE 4: PHOTO CONTEST; GET CAUGHT READING

And the winner is... "Pet reading" by Kalisz- Polish Team from Rzeszow

Congratulations!!

One day, as they were walking across the countryside at dusk, they encountered an old castle. They were so exhausted by the journey that they knocked on the castle’s door and in no time, the owner of the castle emerged in front of them! The owner looked dark and mysterious, yet kindly invited the kids in, offered them food to eat and shelter for the night. After their delicious dinner, the owner of the strange castle, who turned out to be an Author, was involved into a delightful conversation with the adventurous bookworms and answered all their questions concerning this attractive profession. Thus, our friends had the chance to illuminate the mysterious figure of the writer. They were astonished to find out that in the heart of this mysterious person, there was a colourful garden where all kinds of fragrant flowers bloomed. The next day they thanked the Author for opening a warm home and heart for them and went on.

Their next Adventure started when they met some girls reading by a stream, while the trees were creating an impressive leafy dome above them. What a pleasant sight this was!

‘Tree tales’ by the polish team from Gdynia

Our friends, who were a romantic lot, had a sudden desire to get books and read in idyllic environment, too, so they immediately visited the Library. The Library is a paradise on earth and the search for the book you want to read next is one of the great pleasures in life, as we all know. However, except for being the wardrobe of good books, a Library is also a place where you learn new things, you exchange ideas, you broaden your mind and you create! Through their Adventures in the Library, the kids learnt about the Byzantine initials, visited and made exhibitions, created posters, explored the world of Fayum portraits, read the Bible and interviewed a great Librarian, who is, of course, the master of this realm!

ADVENTURE 5: SMALL, BIG, UNUSUAL LIBRARIES

It was the Library itself that inspired them to move on to ADVENTURE 6.After reflecting a lot and discovering the Recipe for a Good book, they plunged into the world of technology in the Library Media Lab, created some wonderful original stories and illustrated them with beautiful pictures. And not only that...They also wrote haiku poems and lapbooks for younger children! They were such proud authors now!

THE READ AND SHARE RECIPE FOR A GOOD BOOK

ADVENTURE 6: BOOKMAKING WORKSHOPS This adventure encouraged imagination and free choice - it was each team´s decision whether they would make “traditional” books or ebooks using one of the recommended tools ( e.g. StoryJumper, Zooburst, Storybird, Toondoo, Pixabay). The outcomes were fabulous and really varied. See on your own. :-)

The books that have a story were collected and published in the form of a simple website (http://write-and-share.webnode.cz/). To make them a real challenge, we added quizzes created in LEARNINGAPPS. Enjoy!

Before leaving the Library, they promised the Librarian they would do their best to create their own libraries, so they got resourceful, as they had no other means except their imagination… They used a really nice book as a boat that would travel in a school yard. ‘Many students will want to be the captains of this vessel’, they hoped and were right! ‘Fair winds and following seas, our book’ they wished. Then, they got a wooden box, painted it blue, drew the ETwinning flag on it, stuck shells and decorated it with a paper boat they created and here it was…. A great little library! Some kind people offered them books and the library beamed, full of books!Their library was so beautiful because it was made with all the love of their heart!

ADVENTURE 7:ATTRACTIVE LIBRARY FOR OUR NEIGHBOURS With this last adventure students were invited to create small projects in order to share and promote books in their regions. It was a great opportunity for children to develop creativity, problem solving and teamwork skills and the results were very original!

Time to go. again! After a while, they were walking through a lovely meadow. They were tired, yet so elated after their last Adventure that they stopped by a brook to have a picnic. Sitting next to the murmuring brook, they opened their travelling baskets, found the stories they had created and read them once more. They also came across some lovely images they had captured during their journey.Looking through these photos, they relived their marvellous Adventures, knowing that, like all things magical and beautiful in life, their Adventures would accompany them down the road.

They left the meadow and the little brook, full of experiences, richer than ever, feeling deep in their heart closer to their goal which was to win the Golden Chalice and bring it back to the ETwinning country with them. The prophecy of the good magician had come true. But where was the Chalice? That question kept swirling into their mind. They were walking again. Soon, the blue sky canvas started being transformed into a magical landscape painting by the exquisite colours of the sunset. The sun looked like a wounded knight, yet still resplendent in his golden armour. The children gazed at this eternal miracle of nature in awe! They spontaneously joined hands and immediately, they all had the same eerie feeling that this was The Golden Chalice! It was the experiences they had gained on the way and the friendship among them that had blossomed through their Adventures!Nature, the wise Nature, had shown them the way, as it always does! An exquisite music flooded the universe.Picking up their precious luggage, the children moved forward to conquer more Golden Chalices with the warmth of their heart.

THE END

An end or a beginning?

The letter from Professor Marek Kziorowski, Vice-Rector of the University of Rzeszow, Poland

an end or a beginning? Rzeszow , May 31st, 2017

Dear Teachers and Students, partners in the eTwinning READ AND SHARE project, After receiving your year-long work promoting books and reading, learning about local libraries and use the latest computer technologies, including my appreciation and admiration for your tremendous work and effort put in to achieve such impressive results, I appreciate your creativity, the multitude of accomplished tasks and the ability to encourage children and young people to reach for books in the age of ubiquitous digitization of our lives. By implementing projects such as READ AND SHARE, you are already preparing the young generation for university education today. I wish you further success in the work of education and teaching. Yours faithfully Prof.dr.hab.Marek Koziorowski

AN END OR A BEGINNING?

The note dedicated to us by the writer Nina Opic!

an end or a beginning? Wishes to Aladdin! I visited children at the Elementary School No 10 in Rzeszow today and saw the achievements in Read and Share project. With delight I watched them enter the world of books by moving to different lands, experiencing adventures, and getting to know other children by book wandering. If I ever meet Aladdin, I’ll ask him to charm out books and people’s friendship, books that teach love and life, and respect for books by children and adults. Congratulations to all on the wonderful project! Nina Opic, Writer

The famous Greek children’s books writer Giolanda Tsoroni-Georgiadi’s comment to us on our project’s facebook page

an end or a beginning? When children, guided by exceptional teachers, realize through such activities that a book does not necessarily end on its last page, but can be the beginning of more creations and inspiration, then, it is certain that these children will be friends with books for the rest of their lives.Congratulations to all of you on opening up new horizons to your students, on cultivating their critical thinking, on giving them the floor and means to express themselves, to participate, to co-operate, to share ideas and emotions, to write their own superb book. It is absolutely certain that what you did will remain strongly impressed on their memory and your activities may be the cause for a great writer to emerge from the team of your students.I wish you keep on being creative with the same enthusiasm.
