Enrol on-line for leisure courses
Welcome
It gives me great pleasure to recommend the courses New Directions and the Reading Informal Adult Learning Network partners are offering to you as a potential learner. New Directions have new classes in several languages as well as GCSE English & Maths, Childminding, ESOL e-learning and Introductory Certificate to Environmental Awareness & Sustainable Development. Enrolment is quick and easy to follow. It is very helpful to see online if places are available for a particular course when it is time to enrol. The atmosphere is friendly and the tutors are trained and experienced in teaching the many subjects on offer. New Directions is an excellent organisation that has helped thousands of Reading people achieve results in courses and help them succeed in a new career. New Directions has also contributed to hours of enjoyment and leisure in courses that enhance hobbies and entertainment. Regrettably we have had to end the concessions on Leisure Courses to ensure that other courses are still subsidised for vulnerable learners. Please take a look at the courses and enjoy your learning; you’ll find the course sessions valuable, fun and educational.

My Learning Journey Sandra Huggins
“
I completed a NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools . I have worked as a teaching assistant for many years and wanted to take the opportunity to gain a valuable vocational qualification that would reflect my years of work and at the same time update the knowledge needed for my role. I really enjoyed attending training alongside other teaching assistants, sharing our experiences and having a good laugh, while learning the best ways of working with the children in our care. The part of my learning that I enjoyed the most was having the opportunity to mentor two young teaching assistants. I was able to use my experience and prior learning to help them achieve their NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 2. Their confidence has grown and they feel that they are more effective in their roles in the classroom. The qualification helped me focus on the individual children within the school, St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School in Caversham; and how I can best meet their needs. It is a joy to work with the children and I now have the confidence to know that I am being effective. I can support the teacher’s planning and offer ideas, working as a team. Is there anything more rewarding that helping a child learn something new? Having had an opportunity to focus on my own learning I can now appreciate how exciting learning must be for children.

Printing in Relief
Will explore the major art movements in the last 70 years: Abstract Expressionism, Minimalism, Pop Art and Post Modernism, including the work of British artists like Francis Bacon, Hockney, Gormley and Damien Hirst.
After a period of decline and factionalism Rome was saved by the vision of some remarkable popes, leading to its reestablishment as a political and cultural centre where some of the greatest works of the High Renaissance were produced.
To accompany the exhibition at the Reading Museum of the wildlife artist, Robert Gillmor, the study day will focus on relief printing – a medium in which Gillmor exels. There will an opportunity to create your own artwork.
