THE STORY OF DANIELLE & HAGEN. Photos By KT Merry Photography

2018 I met Hagen while going to school and working as a model in Allentown, PA. He had been my roommate’s next door neighbor growing up. After we’d been dating for six years, he took me on a surprise date to The Inn at Erlowest in Lake George. Just as we were finishing up dinner, the sun began to set over the lake and he popped the question. We knew right away that we wanted to have our wedding in Saratoga Springs. Hagen had spent a lot of time there while growing up and had great passion for the town. We felt that Saratoga Springs was a perfect place to keep history alive along with having the right touch of the modern.

Beautiful dresses from local shops!

With these amazing gowns as our inspiration, all we had to do was assemble our photoshoot team. Krystal Balzer was the perfect choice for photography as her expertly brilliant and vivid photos capture exquisite color, detail, and all the romanticism a wedding day calls for. Local makeup artist, Carina Scott, sculpted the models with soft romantic makeup and ballerina inspired up-dos. Each dancer had her own unique style of makeup to compliment the gown she was modeling. To complement the elegance of Modern Trousseau, Samantha Nass Floral Design created a stunning centerpiece and coordinated ensembles of gorgeous handheld bouquets carefully paired with each dress. The "Sierra" pairing features gold leaf and delicate blush roses, meanwhile, mixed greens and soft florals were used to create a whimsical and unstructured bouquet to complement "Adore.” "Wendy" was accented perfectly with the pageant bouquet using similar soft hues. 70 | SARATOGA BRIDE | 2017

How To Have Your Cake ...AND EAT IT TOO!

By leah Stein of Leah’s Cakery , Photos Provided

Your wedding cake is one more option to display your personality and the theme of the wedding …seize the opportunity and make it a cake they’ll never forget!

Tips FROM LEAH’S CAKERY... 1. 4. Schedule a consultation with a reputable bakery 6-12 months in advance. This will give you the opportunity to taste the cake, and see the portfolio of the cake designer. This is an essential step if you are interested in a custom design. The advance time will give the bakery time to order or make the special items for your cake.

2.

Think about your design. Do you picture your cake round, square or any other shape? Will it be traditional white, or splashes of color? Fresh flowers or sugar flowers? Will there be a cake topper? Start a Pinterest board of wedding ideas, and don’t forget to pin cakes to share with your baker. Your cake should fit the theme or feel of the wedding, reflect your style as a couple.

Think outside the cake box for design. There is no longer a standard for wedding cakes. If you want a 5 tier teal cake with cascading peacock feathers, you can have it! The wedding cake is the perfect place to add the color punch to a wedding reception.

A variety of articles featuring local businesses - to help with all of the little details!

5.

Be realistic to your budget. Wedding cakes are priced per serving and can range from $4-$6 per serving or more. Have an idea of what you are willing to spend on a wedding cake and share this info with your cake designer during the consultation so that he/she can appropriately design a cake to fit in your budget.

3.

Can’t decide between chocolate or carrot cake? Choose your cake flavor based on what you like to eat. Don’t let your Aunt Bea’s dislike for double chocolate stand in the way of you getting your chocolate fix. Some bakers can make a wedding cake using two or more different cake flavors. This option should be discussed at the consultation. 20 | SARATOGA BRIDE | 2016

Kait & Bart

As a TV Art Director and set decorator by trade, design is one of my greatest passions. I wanted our wedding design to reflect things we love. We incorporated many items from my personal collection... Vintage brass swans used as flower vessels and objects on guests' tables (even as our cake topper!) a huge vintage mirror above the escort card table that greeted guests (a double of one that hangs in our apartment.) Rocks, crystals and geodes from our own collection. We used rocks and crystals everywhere... Small slices of agate with gold calligraphy for our escort cards, large slices of natural colored geodes that I hand gold leafed as table numbers, and even on our wedding cake. Lori from the Sagamore created three cakes for us, each one different. One was marbleized, one was gold leafed, and the center cake was made to look like a giant geode - the sugar crystals were amazing! This cake was topped with 2 small gold swans to tie in the rest of the decor. We highlighted our love of the Adirondacks in subtle, elegant ways, by using ferns and moss throughout the decor.

NEW YORK CITY

Our Story...

If you had told either of us 14 years ago when we graduated from Johnstown High School that we would end up together, it’s safe to say that neither of us would have believed you. Bart and I went to school together for six years, from 7th to 12th grade, and managed to never speak to each other – not even once! How? We still wonder this every.single.day. While we both knew each other by name and had many of the same friends, our social

paths never crossed. Fast forward to years later after college graduation, where we ran into each other in a local pub while visiting our hometown for the weekend. Bart asked me out for ice cream, and the rest is history. We dated long distance for two years, until Bart finally moved to New York City where we have built a beautiful life together. I am an Art Director for the Dr. Oz Show, and Bart is a middle school Physical Education teacher in the South Bronx. True love finds you in the most unexpected places, in the most unconventional ways, and sometimes it’s right under your nose.

We chose to get married in the Adirondacks, as they hold a lot of meaning for us. We’re both from the Southern Adirondacks, and we spent a lot of our first two years meeting on weekends there since we lived in separate cities (I in New York, and Bart in Albany). There’s nothing like a summer night on the lake, and we wanted our friends and family to share in this. We chose the Sagamore, as we could host a weekend of events where our guests could all stay together and share in the magic of the mountains.

David Michael Schmidt brought our vision to life in a way that felt like us. Dani from Sweet Dani B created a custom Wedding logo for our weekend. We used this image on many itemsour save the date, our invitation, our guest Welcome bags, programs, menus, ice sculpture, favor boxes- It helped to tie everything together.
