December 6-14: THE GINGERBREAD MAN 7.30pm. Matinees Saturday 7th and 14th (NB no performance Monday 9th) Book, music and lyrics by David Wood Directed by Linda Swann. In the run up to Christmas, the Wharf Theatre presents the internationally successful musical play for children, The Gingerbread Man. Of all David Wood’s many plays, this has proved the most popular. For nearly thirty years it has played in theatres large and small all over the world, and never seems to date.

The play takes place on an antique kitchen dresser. Whilst the “Big Ones’ are asleep, there’s plenty of activity going on. The cuckoo clock has lost his voice and could be threatened with the dustbin in the morning. The efforts of the gingerbread man, salt cellar and pepper mill to help him regain his voice involve

a confrontation with the Old Tea Bag. However, danger threatens in the guise of a voracious mouse and, surprisingly enough, the ‘Big Ones’.

With lots of constructive audience participation, humour, action and songs, this is a play for all the family.

December 15: Open Mic Night at the Green Dragonm, Marlborough. Every 3rd Sunday evening of the month we have a great Open Mic Night for everyone to enjoy! Run by Adam & Dan of Ocean Colour Scene, musicians of any kind are all welcome, just bring along your own instruments.

December 15: 8pm Marlborough Folk-Roots presents St Agnes Fountain Start your Christmas festivities with this uplifting and fun-filled concert featuring four performers who are household names in the folk-roots world: Chris While, Julie Matthews, Chris Leslie and David Hughes.

Marlborough Downs Livescreen - presenting satellite broadcasts of live events and encore performances from major venues at Marlborough Town Hall.

INGREDIENTS 125g butter 2 egg yolks 1/2 tsp White Wine Vinegar pinch salt lemon juice METHOD 1. Melt the butter in a saucepan, skimming any white solids from the surface. Keep the butter warm.

2. Put two eggs yolks, white wine vinegar, a splash of cold water and a pinch of salt in a bowl. The bowl should fit over a saucepan, 3. Whisk for a few minutes then place the bowl over a barely boiling pan of water.

4. Whisk continuously until the sauce thickens and looks pale. 3-5 minutes approx.

5. Remove from the heat and slowly add the melted butter. As with making mayonnaise this should be done with extreme care, so that the sauce does not split. If it becomes too thick add a splash of water.

6. Toast a halved muffin.

7 . Poach an egg, place on top of the muffin and add the sauce.
