The ultimate purpuse of Bamboo-topia is to prevent the rural decline, in the meanwhile to guide the healthy development of rural industry and to create the strong bond within Bamboo-topia community . Among them, artists and makers play the most important role on the running, in collaboration with the tourists and the local villagers. By our crowd funding, Bamboo-topia brings money together, as well as ideas, energy and the work of art, all contributing to the cyclic development of bamboo industry. What’s more, it also explores a new rural culture which is full of wisdom of living and creativity, advocating the experiential art about bamboo + village + creativity.
Planning Strategy
1. To protect the old rural architecture, the vernacular paths and local plants; to continue vernacular architectural texture;
2. To extract element, round, from the bamboo; to build bamboo architecture, round landscape, mixed with the vernacular architectural texture;
3. To shape the existing water bank through excavation and dredging; to enrich artificial and natural waterfront space;
4. To layout the buildings and paths following the natural terrain.

Lanzhou University is a “Double first-class” university in western China, with a long history, rich cultural heritage and campus features with regional characteristics. This provides the basis for the “local design” of this project.
The overall planning of the campus is neat and imposing, and the project is located at the core of the campus axis. The shape design is inspired by the majestic Cuiyin Mountain, and the material application of red brick curtain wall with western regional characteristics combines history and modernity, which makes the building last forever in future development.

Master planning
The base is located at the junction of the main and secondary axis of the campus and is separated from the First Academic Group on the north and south sides of the main axis, therefore the general layout of the site takes full account of the symmetrical relationship with the main axis of the First Academic Group, and the symmetrical relationship between the two single buildings of its secondary axis, so that the overall image is lofty and unified. To the north and south of the base are the teaching areas, to the west and north-west are the living areas and to the east are the administrative and teaching areas. Motorised traffic flows mainly from the north side of the base, forming a loop around the buildings, and pedestrian traffic flows mainly from the teaching areas on the north and south sides of the base.

Construction scale - The construction scale of the two monolithic blocks was determined according to the mission statement and planning conditions, with the construction scale of the second laboratory building being approximately 58,000 square metres and the second teaching block being 51,000 square metres.
Division of blocks - The initial division of the block is based on a symmetrical relationship with the central axis of the first teaching cluster and the size of the faculties.
Division of levels - the massing is divided into three levels in terms of height: two, four and five storeys, ensuring that the massing of the new building is harmonious and unified with the existing buildings around it in terms of height, while at the same time is richly layered.
Setting up the courtyard - depending on the scale and the depth constraints of the space for light The internal courtyard spaces within the block vary in form and The result is two staggered U-shaped volumes.

The Second Academic Core Group faces the central axis of the campus square to the north, and to the west of the square stretches the majestic Cuiying Mountain, the form of which follows the mountain’s posture and is majestic and powerful.
The main entrance of the Second Academic Core Group has a “door” image, which is in line with the humanistic atmosphere of the campus and signifies “the door to scientific research”.
As a unique building material in western China, red brick has developed a variety of masonry methods and a rich contrast between reality and fiction through modern techniques, giving the brick a unique ‘language’ system in a modern architectural context.
The use of Low-E insulated glass and dark grey metal panels enhances the sense of contrast between reality and fiction on the facade.

The external wall system of the Second Academic Core Group is a “sintered hollow brick curtain wall system” consisting of masonry walls and decorative bricks, with a variety of transparent colours and shapes, without additional decoration, which can effectively solve the durability problems such as alkali flooding on the walls. The system will lay a solid foundation for the creation of a “Double first-class” century-old university.
“Sintered hollow brick curtain wall system” has three characteristics: “Paste”, “Penetration” and “Masonry”, which correspond to different construction techniques.

Brick Selection
“Penetration” is a Penetrating steel curtain wall system. each brick is connected in series with vertical reinforcement through a hole in the brick, and the bricks are tied together by reinforcing mesh to maintain integrity. Due to the high stability requirements of the brick curtain wall system, the beams at the top and bottom of each storey have a cantilever slab to pick up vertical reinforcement. Localised areas are further stabilised with structural columns.

The skylight atrium is located at the visual and physical centre of the entire academic building and it is linked in tandem with the Stepped learning space, which runs through four floors. The atrium is lighted by a well-ribbed skylight at the top, which provides soft and comfortable light and emphasises the openness of the public education building. The design of the atrium is based on the concept of ‘sharing and communicating’ and the interior space is heavily coloured in lighter shades to create an airy and open atmosphere. The stepped learning spaces are in an intimate and pleasant wood colour, which creates a rich contrast against the white atrium.

The Shared atrium continues the overall industrial style with the use of metal finishes and materials with a coarse texture. The colours collide in black, yellow and bronze browngrey, with areas of jumping colour on the floor dividing the different functional spaces and atmospheres. To dissipate the sense of emptiness created by the beams and columns in the atrium that runs through the five floors, viewing platforms are provided at different levels, and the spatial composition is divided by the use of glass balustrade and metal railings in the form of beams and columns to reduce the bulkiness caused by the height of the beams.

Beijing National Day School UESTC Quzhou is a benchmark school where the Quzhou municipal government cooperates with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China to introduce Beijing National Day School’s top education resources and comprehensively improve the basic education level of the whole city.
We value this lush, tree-lined project site. It is the starting point of the design and the core concept of the project that the campus should be returned to nature, preserving the trees that carry the memory of the land, allowing the children to "learn in the forest and think under the trees", growing up here with a free soul and heading towards an infinite future.

Site reading -- Campus & Park
The site of Beijing National Day School UESTC Quzhou is located at the northeast corner of the Quzhou High-Speed Railway New Town Smart Industrial Park, at the intersection of Minjiang Avenue and Wisdom Avenue, and is the gateway to the Yangtze River Delta Research Institute of the UESTC. With a total site area of 66,006 square metres, the school system contains 36 classes of primary school and 30 classes of junior school, it offers more than 1,500 places.
The topography is higher on the southwestern side of the site and lower on the north-eastern side. The highest point elevation is about 83.000 m and the lowest point is approximately 64.000 m. The site is rich in environmental resources, with rolling hills, naturally occurring water bodies, lush greenery and a pleasant microclimate, making it an excellent location for an educational garden.

Volume strategy
The site’s pronounced height differences and lush trees, spreading out in an east-west direction, evoke the smoothness and comfort of a breeze through the hills, which was the original inspiration for the general form. The buildings stretch out along the long axis of the base with the wind and resemble hills growing out of the base in a cascading and undulating manner. The three-dimensional, multi-layered landscaping and the large trees retained and transplanted into the building create a new site with the original hills. The children will be able to learn in the forest and think under the trees, incorporating the memories of the land as they grow up.

Continuous growth -- Body & Spatial scale
The project is a nine-year school combined with a kindergarten on the adjacent site, forming a 12-year school system. We wanted to create a school that would break down grade barriers and encourage more interaction between different age groups to take place. We expect a school environment that is both serious and flexible, giving students the opportunity and freedom to express themselves.

"Sandwich" Spatial structure
According to the physical and psychological needs of the students, we have arranged the learning spaces in vertically stratified clusters of varying densities to give better conditions for high-demand spaces, forming a “sandwich” structure.
The “sandwich” spatial structure is a vertical layering of the functional spaces of the campus, allowing for quick and easy connections between the upper and lower levels in an intensive complex.

Common & Base Layer -- Boomerang & Pedestal
The upper part of the building is the main teaching area, like a boomerang, with an east-west orientation for the classrooms facing south.
The lower base is the shared area, including various specialist classrooms, lecture theatres and the namic, linking the campus entrance plaza with the core teaching area, making use of the height

orientation to ensure light and ventilation the gymnasium, with a north-south dyheight difference to form a rich spatial levels.
Bonding Layer -- Hubs
The concept of the ‘hill’ was introduced in the creation of the internal space. The second floor is the hub of the entire teaching area and is where we expect the most communication and interaction to take place.
The sequence of teaching spaces from the Grand Staircase at the North Entrance - Primary School - Junior School - South Entrance Plaza, forms a three-dimensional spatial flow of interlocking high and low levels. At the same time, public spaces of different scales and types are provided at the peaks and valleys of this flow, and different forms of vertical connections have been set, together to form a rich and interesting learning-sharing area.
In the east-west direction, the two sports areas are closely linked to the central teaching area by outdoor staircases at different locations, forming two “sports axis” and greatly enhancing the utilisation of the sports areas during the school day.
The teaching and living areas are connected by a ramp on the south second floor, the vertical and horizontal flow grid provides spatial continuity throughout the campus.

Chuzhou is a city with outstanding talents and an excellent natural landscape environment, which germinates the traditional teaching form of the “Chinese academy”. Chuzhou High School is a century-old key school in Chuzhou City and Anhui provincial model school. The new campus combines the ‘spirituality’ of Chuzhou with the ‘fame’ of the high school to further enhance the quality of local educational resources.
In designing the overall campus space, we have continued the traditional spatial form of the "Chinese Academy of classic learning", with a multi-courtyard building forming a layered sequence of campus spaces. The entrance portal General Building is an abstract expression of Chuzhou's "Landscape Pavilion City" and "Gate of Wisdom". The colour of black, white and grey tones in the architectural image and the use of materials such as metal grids and perforated plates fully express the spatial aesthetics of "simple", "elegant" and "transparent" of Chinese architecture.

The North Area is a complex of buildings with the lake as the core, the architectural image forms an interaction between the buildings and the environment in the direction of the lake and the buildings around the lake form an organic whole through the road around the lake.
The buildings around the lake form an organic whole, as if a group of children are linked hand in hand.
The space around the lake is a combination of leisure, recreation, education (flora and fauna) and sport (running track around the lake), forming an active 'back garden'.
As the image of the campus facing the city, the South Area creates a neat central axis through the entrance plaza, the complex building and the sculpture plaza.
The campus space in the South Zone is a traditional college space similar to that of the Yuelu Academy.

This project is the only senior high school in Xiongdong area A plot, with strict land use restrictions and strict urban style control requirements. We have adopted a highly intensive layout of functions as a response, while releasing more space for landscape design and shaping the spiritual space of the campus. The sports and fitness functions of the campus can be opened up to the community, fully enhancing the supporting facilities in the area. Within the strict limits of the facade near-line rate, we have created a dynamic campus entrance space with a continuous roof that rises gently up the slope. it to see detail

Responding to negative site conditions
The site conditions are extremely irregular, meeting the 80m setback line for the main teaching rooms and the 30m setback line for the general classrooms. The general teaching building is laid flat in the best orientation of the site, dividing the site into a sports field on the north side and a small courtyard on the south side.
The north-west side is the main road of the city, the noise problem is serious, the building is adjacent to the main road side to arrange corridors, auxiliary teaching rooms and other functional rooms to isolate the noise, to ensure the sound environment of the main classrooms. 80m
Utilizing the positive site conditions
The site is cleverly laid out with a sports field and a courtyard to the south-east, introducing a series of two green belt landscape nodes to the west and south-east of the site, with the building layout enclosing the main landscape surface of the campus and emphasising the gesture towards the sports field.
The changing terrace surrounds the playground, creating a huddle and linking the main entrance to the central landscape of the campus.
