Poems, Sketches, & Photography

Foreign Poem For the Translations project, students were handed a poem written in a random foreign language, without knowing the topic or meaning. I was given an Arabic poem. I evaluate that the poem is balanced and natural. Within each of the lines, the characters create a baseline that makes the poem look steady and strong, while the curves of the characters make the poem seem romantic and delicate.

Sketches While looking at the Arabic poem, I sketched drawings and symbols that resembled the characters and demonstrated the same feelings that was brought from the poem. Some of the sketches I designed have curved lines and repetition to represent the curves and baselines of the Arabic characters. Some of my symbols were inspired by human figures and nature-like features. Chriselle Co | Process Book

First iteration: Photography Initially, my idea for the 3D project was to capture plants in a vase to represent the sturdiness and delicacy of the poem. The plants represented the natural delicacy element, while the pot represented the strong baseline. Moving forward, I added more items onto my 3D product, like styrofoam. I focused on the blurred, soft shapes and color palette that the plants, styrofoam, and base created when I photographed them. I also found fascincating how to styrofoam naturally stuck onto the base. Chriselle Co | Process Book

6

Second iteration: Photography With my second iteration of 3D modeling, I took inspiration of my prior sketches. The materials I used was a clear cup, metallic tape, and an Xacto knife. Firstly, I taped around the cup with the tape, purposely leaving crinkles all around the cup for a natural crumpled affect. Then, I etched out shapes similar to my sketches all along the sides.

English translated poem When we received the English poem, the translation was not exactly what I was expecting. I had a guess that the poem was emotional, but I was not expecting a sad love poem. “Your Email is about someone waiting for their crush or significant other to respond to them on email. Their emotions and expressions does not completely match with my strong and delicate balance idea of the Arabic poem, but my guess was not completely off.

Poster Series

9

Design Brief: Music Industry The poster series I have created together is envisioned for the music industry. The three themes and words for my posters is techno, luminescent, and eerie. The black background with the bright neon colors with abstract shapes reminded me of an old-school dance club. I could imagine the techno poster being used for an old school techno dance or club event possibly held at a roller rink or a 90’s event. Also, I could imagine this poster being used for an old-school EDM band. There is a lot of rhythmic movement within the typography and the abstract shapes. My second poster is the luminescent poster. I see this poster being used for a 70’s night club event or a band that resembles the 70’s culture. The bright colors of the poster gives the poster a more transcendental or psychedelic look to it. It contrasts to the techno poster, because this luminescent poster has a more dreamy and mellow tone. Lastly, I created an eerie poster. This one has a darker, mysterious look. I could see this poster being used for a band that uses different types of music genres. This poster is less obvious to tell exactly what mood it brings, but I see it as a happy medium between dark and happy, which invokes the mystery of the poster.

Techno Using one of the “first iteration photos,” I used the features on Photoshop to abstractify the photo. I added various affects to get the black background and interesting vibrant colors. The photo reminded me of an old-school tech club, so I added the typography “Techno.”

11

Eerie Using the same process as the first poster, I edited an image and used the reflection tool. I warped the letters to look like the word is moving with the poster. The white, black, purple, and orange faded colors gave this poster an eerie look.

Luminescent Using the same process, this photo contained bright luminescent colors. With the typography, I wanted to blend the bright colors into the word, while maintaining the motion.

Final Product Blast from the Past Music Festival All three of these posters seemed to look like different genres of old school music. I used the “Luminescent” poster to create the “Blast from the Past” music festival poster. This festival would celebrate the best artists from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. On the next few pages. I added mockups of merchandise, music tickets, an instagram post, billboard, and a website.

Digital Renderings

First Digital Draft With my first idea, I laid out the structure of how my family crest would look like. I image traced my church on Illustrator, added a compass, stars, and a map to illustrate my family centers their life direction by church.

22

Line Art Instead of using Illustrator to image trace the photo of my church, I created a line art piece to add onto my family crest. This was a cleaner and clearer way to show the building than the image trace made on Illustrator.

23

Incorporating Philippines To incorporate the Philippines flag into my illustration piece, I wanted to use the sun as my compass. The stars on the flag easily was transfered to my image because I originally had stars. I added waves to demonstrate that Philippines is a land of many islands.

3D Modeling

Sketch: 3D planning Before I assembled and created my cutouts, I drew a plan of how I would want to create my 2D logo into a 3D product.

27

Materials For my base, I was switching between a photo frame, gift box, and a small cardboard box. For the inside, I was using construction paper and an Xacto to cut out shapes.

28

Final Cut-outs I drew and cut out a red world map, a yellow and black compass, yellow stars. a blue building, and sea blue waves. These are the colors of the Philippines flag.

3D Final Product

29

I ended up using the glass and the cardboard backing of the photo frame to frame to complete my 3D final product. I did not use the actual frame because I found the frame was too bulky for my liking.

Initial Ideas & Inspiration

Mood Board My mood board consisted of products that I use everyday. Out of all the products, I chose my phone, wallet, and keys to work on because I have a long personal history of losing all three items. So, I wanted to create a bag that was conviniently only for a wallet, keys, and phone.

Chriselle Co | Process Book

32

Mind Map My mind map branches off of the different compartments I needed to involve when creating a phone/keys/wallet bag. Initially, I wanted a detachable wallet side, key holder, and phone holder. My other factors I considered was the type of bag, style, efficiency, and protection.

Chriselle Co | Process Book

33

Visual Research Browsing through Amazon, I looked through products similar to the ones screenshotted on the right, to figure out what looks and materials I could possibly add onto my bag. I looked through key vaults, wallets, and small phone holders.

34

3.2

Developing Sketches Early Ideas My first idea when creating a phone, wallet, and keys bag is developing a bag that has three detachable compartments. The three compartments is 1. wallet 2. phone slit 3. key vault. Magnetic clips attached to the side would keep compartments together and easily slide off.

Chriselle Co | Process Book

35

Developing Sketches I scratched out the dettachable compartments idea completely because I realized the product was too complicated. I moved onto a similar idea which is a double-sided bag for wallet and keys and the phone slip would be in the middle. Instead of detachable compartments, I would add detachable straps so the bag could be used as a clutch or crossover. I brainstormed ideas for having a low-cost budget and a high-cost budget.

Chriselle Co | Process Book

36

Finalizing Ideas I chose to develop the tech-wear version of the bag because of long-term projection. On top of the finger-print recognition, I added a discrete portable charger at the bottom, which is where the bag would be charged. I finalized the key holders design. Instead of a key vault, I would have a similar slim ring holder design look for keys. Lastly, a motion detector in the bag would be added somehow.

Final Product: Celle

Celle: Never lose your necessities The final product I created is branded, Celle. The name is inspired because the bag is small and compact, like a cell. Also “Celle” is similar to “cellphone,” which demonstrates tech. “Celle” is also short for my name “Chriselle.” Celle is a handbag that will help you never lose your necessities again. By the motion sensor device, the bag and phone will alert you when something is not put in place. Organization, protection, and efficiency is Celle’s main objective.
