The new Golf GTE – Section – 01

THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS. AT THE TOUCH OF A BUTTON.

THE GOLF GTE AND GTE NAV Dynamic, sporty and responsive, the Golf GTE and GTE Nav deliver 204 PS, combining GTI dynamics with e-Golf electric credentials. At the touch of the ‘GTE’ button, the electric motor and TSI petrol engine combine to deliver a top speed of 138mph, where the law permits, and a whole new driving experience, with CO2 emissions of 39g/km1. When fully charged in all-electric mode, the Golf GTE has an electric range of up to approximately 31 miles2 and when electric and petrol combine, the total range is up to approximately 580 miles2. With or without the button, a new driving experience awaits you in the Golf GTE and GTE Nav.

1  Our CO2 and consumption values are provisional and are currently under review. Revised values will be published if necessary. The ‘combined/weighted’ fuel consumption/CO2 figures are calculated from two test results: one when the battery is fully charged and another when the battery is discharged. The two results are a weighted average, taking into account mileage range on battery power only, providing a figure in a variety of charge conditions. Battery charged using mains-sourced electricity via plug-in. Extended range achieved by 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine generating electricity. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures are obtained under standardised test conditions (Directive 93/116/EEC) using a representative model. This allows direct comparison between different models from different manufacturers, but may not represent the actual fuel consumption achieved in ‘real world’ driving conditions. Emissions are while driving. More information is available at www.dft.gov.uk/vca. CO2 emissions shown refer to standard specification only. 2  The specified NEDC range can vary because of driving style, speed, use of additional electrical consuming equipment, outside temperature, number of people in car/maximum load, driving style selection (e-mode, hybrid, battery charge or GTE) and terrain.

IT’S THE BLUE LINE THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE At first glance, the Golf GTE is the spitting image of the GTI. But look a little closer and you’ll see a few significant differences. Instead of the GTI’s red accents, the GTE sports a blue stripe, which just like its GTI counterpart’s, extends across the radiator grille and continues into the LED headlights finishing neatly above the LED indicator lights. The blue theme continues on the Volkswagen roundel and GTE badging on the radiator grille, sides and rear tailgate, while the sporty bumper features distinctive fins and characteristic unique front ‘C’ signature LED daytime running lights. The Golf GTE has its own inimitable style.

HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS WITH LED TECHNOLOGY Even when dusk falls, the Golf GTE stays in the limelight. Newly designed LED headlights with LED indicators and unique front ‘C’ signature LED daytime running lights provide optimum illumination, combining with blue GTE styling to create a powerful and distinctive road presence. Tinted rear light clusters and rear number plate lights incorporating LED technology complete the rear styling. Model shown features optional Oryx White premium signature paint.

IT WON’T BE TIED DOWN. EXCEPT TO THE CHARGING CABLE. PETROL AND CHARGING

WALL BOX The Golf GTE is equipped with two charging cables with different plugs: one to charge up from a domestic mains socket, and one for a charging station or wall box. A wall box provides you with higher charging performance and consequently shorter charging time than a domestic mains socket. Information regarding the purchase of this charging equipment, local infrastructure check, installation, servicing and customer helpline will be available from your authorised Volkswagen retailer at point of sale. Wall box not included. Wall box shown for illustration purposes only.

As a plug-in hybrid, the Golf GTE offers the best of both worlds with a petrol flap on the side and a charging socket behind the Volkswagen roundel on the front grille. It’s incredibly convenient: simply fill up with fuel and plug in the connector and charge up. Using the standard mains charging cable, the GTE recharges the high-voltage battery from a household socket in approximately 3 hours 45 minutes. Charging via a wall box or at a public charging station it’s even faster; taking approximately 2 hours 15 minutes. For information on wall box purchase and installation, local infrastructure check, servicing and customer helpline, please refer to your authorised Volkswagen retailer at point of sale.

DRIVE AND OPERATING MODES Image shown is GTE Nav.

The Golf GTE represents a milestone in drive technology, combining a 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver almost GTI like performance. Along with the hybrid, battery charge and ‘GTE’ driving modes, it also offers the all-electric ‘e-mode’, ideal for urban driving, providing emission-free operation, whilst in motion, in town or residential areas up to a distance of approximately 31 miles1. The different driving modes, energy flow and load condition of the lithium-ion battery are all displayed on the infotainment system, with kinetic energy normally lost during braking converted to electricity by regenerative braking and fed directly to the battery where it is stored.

1  The specified NEDC range can vary because of driving style, speed, use of additional electrical consuming equipment, outside temperature, number of people in car/ maximum load, driving style selection (e-mode, hybrid, battery charge or GTE) and terrain.

204 PS OF POWER. CONTROLLED CORNERING. XDSPLUS With the GTE button pressed and the combined power of the electric motor and the TSI engine generating 204 PS 1 and 350 Nm of torque, the GTE provides almost GTI like performance. The XDSPlus electronic differential lock helps improve traction during cornering by applying pressure to the inner front wheel to prevent wheel spin, making handling even more confident and accurate. A careful driving style is always essential, however, as even XDSPlus cannot extend beyond the laws of physics.

CAR-NET E-REMOTE Volkswagen’s Car-Net e-remote mobile services app allows you to access many vehicle functions remotely via your compatible smartphone. For example, you can activate your Golf GTE’s air conditioning before your journey begins, ensuring a pleasant interior temperature when you set off, or set the windscreen heating function to ensure a clear view. You can control charging from a distance, starting and stopping remotely when you wish, with both the charging level and remaining range displayed on your compatible smartphone. You can also view information about your driving characteristics and journey at any time, including average speed and journey time, and the app will even inform you whether the lights are still on and the doors locked, along with your last parking position, all from the comfort of your home or office. In addition, all functions can be easily controlled via the web portal on www.volkswagen-car-net.com

INTERIOR A car with a true sporting heritage should provide maximum support for those inside, and here the Golf GTE excels. Front sports seats provide lateral support on tight bends, stylishly finished in ‘Jacara Blue’ upholstery or optional black ‘Vienna’ leather, both adorned with vibrant blue contrast stitching. This theme is continued on the gear lever gaiter and three-spoke steering wheel. The leather trimmed multifunction steering wheel provides excellent grip and continues the sports styling with aluminium-look inserts and the GTE logo, enhanced by stainless steel pedals. All combine to give that unmistakeable GTE feel.

GTE BUTTON, DASH PANEL AND CENTRE CONSOLE Press the GTE button and the electric and petrol motors combine to deliver 204 PS and a new type of driving fun – the steering becomes more responsive and the ride firms up, the DSG gearbox changes gear quicker, keeping in the lower gears ready to accelerate on demand, while the exhaust sound actuator stirs the senses with a deep sporty sound. In GTE mode, it now shows its GTI heritage in sound as well as looks and handling, with the engine temperature and power level displayed on the dashboard. Hybrid driving information, such as current driving mode and charge level is displayed on the dash, while the range monitor, energy flow indicator and e-Manager can be viewed on the infotainment touch-screen display. The DSG gear lever is situated in the centre console surrounded by sporty ‘Chequered Black’ decorative inlays. 01)  The maximum power output figures are quoted in PS (or Pferdestärke, which is the metric equivalent of horsepower). To convert from metric to imperial horsepower, divide the PS figure by 1.0139. 02)  The size of the fuel tank is approximate and therefore it may be possible to add a greater amount of fuel than the size of the tank specified, due to the space in the filler neck. 03)  Our CO2 and consumption values are provisional and are currently under review. Revised values will be published if necessary. Fuel consumption and CO2 figures are obtained under standardised EU test conditions (Directive 93/116/EEC). This allows a direct comparison between different manufacturer models but may not represent the actual fuel consumption achieved in ‘real world’ driving conditions. More information is available on the Volkswagen website at www.volkswagen.co.uk and at www.dft. gov.uk/vca. The weight of a vehicle will influence the level of CO2 emissions it produces; as a result, vehicles with higher levels of specification and factory-fitted options may emit higher levels of CO2. Choosing larger alloy wheels than those fitted as standard may result in increased fuel consumption as well as higher CO2 emissions and subsequently an increased Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) band. BIK rates paid by company car drivers may also increase. In some instances, the recommended ‘On the road’ retail price paid for a vehicle may increase as a result of the increased VED rate. The specifications contained in this brochure are for information purposes only and are subject to change. 04)  The ‘combined/weighted’ fuel consumption/CO2 figures are calculated from two test results: one when the battery is fully charged and another when the battery is discharged. The two results are a weighted average, taking into account mileage range on battery power only, providing a figure in a variety of charge conditions. Battery charged using mains-sourced

electricity via plug-in. Extra equipment and accessories (add-on parts, tyres etc.) can change relevant vehicle parameters, such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, and with weather and traffic conditions, can affect consumption and performance values. 05)  Efficiency classes assess vehicles according to CO2 emissions, taking into account the vehicle’s unladen weight. Vehicles conforming to that are graded D. Vehicles that are better than today’s average are graded A+, A, B or C. Vehicles that are worse than the average are graded E, F or G. 06)  The specified NEDC range can vary because of driving style, speed, use of additional electrical consuming equipment, outside temperature, number of people in car/maximum load, driving style selection (e-mode, hybrid, battery charge or GTE) and terrain. 07)  With increasing altitude the engine performance diminishes. From 1,000m above sea level and for every 1,000m thereafter 10% of the vehicle/trailer weight (trailer weight + gross vehicle weight) must be deducted. 08)  Figures are calculated in accordance with manufacturer’s criteria. The individual unladen weight depends on the specification of the vehicle, this then reduces the possible payload accordingly. The unladen weight and payload both include the fuel tank 90% full, driver (68kg) and luggage (7kg) in line with EU directive 95/48. Unladen weight shown refers to 3-door models. The unladen weight of 5-door models will increase by 30kg.
