Thank you for checking out the Winter Edition of the Gear Guide from Kayak Bass Fishing Magazine. You’ve probably seen some gear issues from other magazines like I have. I wanted to do the KBFMAG version a little different. First, I wanted it to come out right before “Rigging Season” starts (also known as winter). Something else I often felt lacking was the information provided. The KBFMAG team has included the descriptions from manufacturers and companies that make the cool stuff that made it. Each of the pictures is hyperlinked to their websites so you can get even more info. Just double click the picture and it will open a new browser window for you. The final difference that you’ll see is the lack of advertisements. The Gear Guide is featuring my favorite items I have seen at Outdoor Retailer, retail shops across the country or purchased myself and really enjoyed using. The nature of new things is unfortunately staggered release dates. A few items didn’t make the issue which I am looking forward to seeing more in the Spring. The Native FX Propel is at the top of that list. I spent quite a bit of time checking out the prototype and speaking with Woody Calloway about its features. We will most likely have a feature in the Spring Issue of KBFMAG as more pictures and demos happen and as the prototype changes to the production model. We have covered a little bit of everything. You’ll see sections for different categories and things from kayaks to clothes. You may or may not like all the stuff you see here and that works too. That’s the great part of kayak fishing in the 20-teens: options. Included you will find items that would be perfect as stocking stuffers or bigger gifts for Christmas. HOBIE H-Rail Railblaza G-Hold The Hobie H-Rail Railblaza G-Hold secures paddles, push poles, nets, gaffs or anything of moderate size up to 2 inches in diameter. The flexible quick-release strap has two securing points for security of minimum and maximum diameters, providing strong retention. It clamps to the 12-sided H-Rail without any drilling or tools needed. When the clamp is secured, the G-Hold does not twist or slide along the rail. HOBIE H-Rail Rod Holder This rod holder attaches to Hobie’s patented H-Rail making it adjustable from side to side and easy to remove. It also adjusts from front to back by releasing a lever and clamping it closed at the desired angle. The rod holder can be oriented inboard or outboard depending on the desired use. It is a tube design with a removable gimbal pin and a reel holder that can be rotated or removed to orient baitcasting or spinning rods into the perfect position. Two oversized padeyes built into the design can be used to secure the rod holder to the boat and prevent it from slipping under high loads. Hobie recommends using a rod leash to tether your rod to the kayak when fishing for big game.
