IRVING PETLIN : THOUGH THE YEARS
Mr. Petlin strove to preserve history in a style that was neither realistic nor abstract. Rather than depict brutal events graphically, he reimagined them with subtlety and surrealism. “He was totally unclassifiable,” John Yau, a poet and critic, who has written about and interviewed Mr. Petlin, said in a telephone interview. “He’s kind of a modern-day symbolist.” He added, “He reinvented pastels.” https://www.nytimes.com/2018/09/07/obituaries/irvingpetlin-dead.html Irving Petlin, Artist Who Recorded Injustice, Dies at 83
