NEW WORK
My paintings often reference films, both visually and narratively. For the longest time, I have wanted to make a movie, but I don’t believe I have the ability or the wherewithal. These new paintings are my attempt to dive deeper into the idea of film making. When I started to these new works, I tried to think of a story or plot that my imaginary film would tell. I tried to imagine the characters, their traits, mannerisms and so on. As the story unfolded in my head, I started to pick various points in the tale to depict in the paintings. Some of the paintings are moments of action while others are just before or after an event. Some works take the look of an advertisement for this imaginary film. The basic plot revolves around two main characters living out a stylish Bonnie and Clyde type adventure. Other elements repeat in the paintings such as the Marlboro Man advertisements and various Ford Mustangs all of which become characters in the story.
