THE EBB & FLOW OF HISTORY Magnificent churches, grand buildings and scenic mills, the historic borough of Christchurch and the heritage market towns of Wimborne Minster, Blandford Forum and Shaftesbury share many links.

village life over the last century. The Red House Museum in the heart of Christchurch, was originally the local workhouse and is fascinating to visit.

Christchurch’s historic Priory Quarter is in the heart of the town centre, dominated by the stunning Priory Church with its excellent architecture ranging from Norman through to Renaissance. The gracious Minster Church of

St Cuthburga in Wimborne Minster also dates from the Norman period; its unusual artifacts include an Astronomical Clock and a rare Chained Library dating from 1686. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of both of these timeless buildings, and each hosts a regular programme of concerts and events. The grandeur continues at Kingston Lacy (NT) with the splendour of the Spanish Room, lavishly gilded in leather and a renowned art collection. The superb cliff-top mansion of Highcliffe Castle, built between 1831 and 1835, is described as “the most important remaining example of the Romantic and Picturesque style of architecture”. Both of these great houses have wide ranging events and exhibitions.
