Dear Members,
At last, the wait is over. The tables are set, the glassware is polished, and the champagne is chilling. The Clubhouse is finally ready to open after almost two years. Obviously, the pandemic threw a massive spanner in the works. Kudos to our architects, Zarch Collaboratives, for working around the challenges. I think you’ll agree, the finished product meets all expectations. It has managed to retain everything we love about the original Clubhouse while injecting a new vibrancy and a great deal more functionality.
Ever-changing regulations permitting, do come and christen your new Clubhouse and enjoy everything it has to offer. I personally love the newly created veranda adjoining Arbenz – it is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner aperitif or a nightcap. Needless to say, should we fall short in any way during the first few weeks of resuming Clubhouse operations, please forgive us. It is early days, and no doubt we will encounter some teething problems. Hopefully, they will be minor and short-lived.
On the downside, due to Singapore’s current Phase 3 (Heightened Alert) status, we are unable to host an official opening for our newly renovated Clubhouse. We sincerely apologise for the lack of festivities that would otherwise have occurred, especially in view of the fact that this year also marks our 150th Anniversary. Please consider it a raincheck, not a cancellation.
On a related note, I regret that the Club will be unable to hold our two major annual events this year – the Swiss National Day celebration, and Oktoberfest. These two events are traditionally open to the public, and very lucrative streams of revenue as well as amazing experiences that put our name on the ‘party map’ of Singapore and indeed all of Southeast Asia.
Given the need to scrutinise our expenditure, we have decided to convert the Club’s bi-monthly magazine to a bi-annual one. This issue is in fact the first of the new generation. To stop the gap in the frequency of our communications, we will be relying more heavily on our digital and social media platforms. Stay tuned for the launch of our exciting new Telegram and WhatsApp accounts, both of which can be accessed on desktop and mobile devices.
Finally, I wish to ask all of you to continue to uphold the spirit of cooperation that has seen the Club remain open throughout almost all of the pandemic. Your compliance with safe distancing, group gathering limitations and mask-wearing is much appreciated. It is likely that we will be subject to ongoing spot checks by the authorities. I thank you in advance for your vigilance.
Happy Swiss National Day! Happy Singapore National Day! And here's to many happy, healthy days ahead!
Yours sincerely,
A. Lim
