• A subject catering for students with a broad range of music performance styles, instruments, standards & interests. • Is offered as an accelerated Year 10 VCE music study and as a Year 11 subject. • Is designed as a stand-alone subject or to lead into & prepare students for VCE Units 3 & 4 music studies. Performance - 30% Journal, tasks & discussion – 20% Students spend class time rehearsing/performing in small groups/rock groups/duets as soloists. Students have a music lesson each week and work with their instrumental teacher to prepare their music for assessment. Together they maintain music lesson information in the Performance Journal including a record of lessons, practice, work set and feedback/reflection. Students prepare and perform solo and ensemble works. Students may negotiate a range of presentations of performance for assessment including things such as:class ensembles, college ensembles, duets with their instrumental teacher, solos with an accompanist, unaccompanied solo works, performances in the community. Submission of video presentations and/or live presentations will be considered for assessment in consultation with student/classroom/instrumental teacher. Students maintain a Performance Journal that also documents rehearsals, performances, concert class observations and concert attendance. Students use this journal to highlight effective techniques that maximise the impact of performance and areas for improvement. Students learn about their music being prepared for performance and compile a folio – They identify the organization of pieces examining the compositional devices, musical contexts and elements.

Assessment 20% • Students compile a folio of creative work. They compose and/or arrange short pieces of music for their ensemble or solo instrument. They document their compositional process/research and development of ideas in their folio and use digital tools to develop, record, refine and document their music.
Analysing & Responding
Music Theory, Aural Work and Listening
Assessment 30% • Students study music theory in order to support and inform their skills and knowledge as performers and creators of music. • Students listen to a broad range of music, they discuss their ideas about the music they hear and consider various interpretations and treatment of the elements of music.
