These twelve people are enrolled on-line with Tabor Adelaide but have the opportunity to attend face-to-face tutorials which are being held here, as well as two 2-day intensives with staff from Tabor – also to be held in Geelong. We wish all these staff well in their studies. In 2016 we will continue to support these people as they move towards the completion of their post-graduate degree. In addition, 2016 will see the commencement of an undergraduate Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree course to be offered here at CCITL as well as a Master of Teaching (Primary) program for graduates who wish to become teachers. (The plan is to commence similar degrees with a Secondary focus in 2018).

A New Venture- CCITL The Christian College Institute of Teaching & Learning (CCITL) – the tertiary and higher education arm of Christian College – commenced operations this year as a Teaching Centre of Tabor Adelaide. This follows years of preparations, negotiations and submissions to various accreditation bodies. Starting in a small way, CCITL has two major functions, namely, to provide recognised tertiary qualifications through a range of courses available to all and to facilitate in-service refresher and extension courses (Professional
Professional Learning Experiences are a combination of mini-conferences and after-school seminars that are designed to promote the aims of Christian College in catering for the spiritual and learning needs of students. These will be designed in response to defined needs and in consultation with school personnel, in particular the Principal and Vice Principal, Heads and Deputy Heads of Campus, and Directors of Teaching & Learning in the various faculties. One of the first Professional Learning Experiences to be offered will be on enhancing the culture of Teaching Christianly, with the Director of Christian Education, Stephen Brown, conducting a six week course providing an overview of the Bible. This has come about from many teachers requesting this. I have taken the role of the inaugural Head of the Christian College Institute of Teaching & Learning alongside Graham Stephens being the Administration Officer. Graham will also be taking on the role of Practicum Supervisor in 2016. We have both worked very closely with the College’s CEO, Daryl Riddle, who has been an innovative and strong guiding force in establishing this tertiary arm of the College. We ask for your prayers and support as this new venture takes off and grows, and our thanks go to many people who have contributed in so many ways to this project over recent years. Any inquiries concerning CCITL should be made in the first instance to Graham Stephens at g.stephens@ccg.vic.edu.au or by phoning the Middle School campus.

Inspiring Young Writers Performance poet, Joel McKerrow, joined Bellarine’s Year 9 Writers’ elective recently for a workshop on developing performance poetry. Joel shared some of his poems which he used as a eaching tool, getting the students to share what they saw and heard. The students were amused, inspired and affected by the emotion shared through his piece.

‘the whole student.’ Through our extensive offerings in Teaching and Learning, together with our carefully balanced focus on character development and pastoral care, our students are being well prepared to meet the demands and challenges for the future. A balance of Care and Curriculum. All students are different and therefore any great school and its staff will understand this and take steps to cater for the individual differences. It takes courage, planning, dedicated staff and forethought to understand, prepare and cater for the future needs of our students. By providing students with a broad range of excellent learning experiences and opportunities, sporting, musical and creative pursuits, the students are encouraged to explore, discover and expand their personal talents and
Back Creek Café The Meredith Back Creek Café experience is another important extension of the Back Creek farm experience. Students are encouraged to explore the relationship between the food and produce we grow in the paddocks through to the presentation of the meals onto the plate. This important focus gives the students a real life understanding of how the food cycle works. The students will also gain valuable customer relation skills as they learn how to best serve their customers. These food handling skills and formal training which enables the students to receive a food handling certificate, will prepare our students to deal with people, understand the principles of retailing, money management, hygiene, stock and merchandising, marketing and very importantly the offering of quality service.

Packing a suitcase is usually an exciting proposition. It was exceptionally exciting for Paulina, one of the kindergarten volunteers at the Christian College kinder in Viqueque, Timor Leste, because she had never travelled outside her district, let alone her country. So equipped with a new passport and visa, she accompanied Lucia, one of the teachers at the same kinder, to Geelong at the start of the 2015 academic year. The purpose of the visit for the Timorese teachers was to undergo further professional development and training at Williams House Kindergarten, Christian College. Lucia had been part of a similar program in 2011, and now is a leader teacher. The staff at Williams House have been mentoring Paulina and Lucia in Term 1.

They rightly see it as a potential key to a broader and brighter future. Christian College is blessed to be able to offer assistance in the way of supplying laptops as they become available to support the programs being implemented by the local staff there. More specifically, during the Easter holidays, a group of Christian College teachers will visit Viqueque and deliver an educational conference to the teachers of the district. They will address teachers from Kindergartens through to Senior Schools, focusing deliver messages about healthy, hygienic practices around everyday living. The simple things we take for granted, such as regular teeth cleaning, selecting nutritious foods to eat and washing hands after toileting and before eating, will be emphasised.

This role gives him the ‘opportunity to spend time with wonderful people across the two states, helping support them in showing God’s love to their surfing communities.’
camps, contests and conferences and also to surf at some incredible places too! Since graduating, Lucas has travelled to many amazing surfing destinations including a long list of islands in Indonesia and Hawaii. As a talented musician, Lucas has also released several albums over the years and performed around Australia and other parts of the world.
Page 24 :.
Lucas started with Christian College in Year 12 having moved to the coast with a friend’s family after his father passed away from cancer. Lucas says ‘The staff and students of Christian College went out of their way to ensure I was welcomed as one of their own’. Despite the circumstances surrounding his move, Lucas describes his time there as his ‘best schooling experience to date! The teachers were wonderful encouragers of my creativity, love for people and the outdoors and have shaped a lot of who I am today.’ Lucas returned as a staff member from 2003-2006 as a Youth Worker at the Senior School and describes this time as his ‘foundation’ into working in ministry that he has continued since. Looking back on his time at Christian College, Lucas says ‘The College community has a great culture of faith but also allows for students to decide their own path and to develop their own relationship with God. Christian College was the gift to me that has kept on giving’.

Year 2 students getting presented with their Storybook Bibles at a Junior School Assembly
Year 2 students excited to receive their Stroybook Bibles
The Storybook Bible The Bible is the most amazing story ever told. This is because it is about God, it is about us, it is about the world, and it is true. It is an historical and spiritual story! However, the big problem is that it can be hard to read, tough to get into. Consequently, the Bible can tend to gather dust on the shelf. At Christian College we have always given students the Bible. However, this year we are investing more. In 2015 we are presenting our Year 2 and 3 students with ‘The Jesus Storybook Bible’ (JSB). The JSB is regarded as the best children’s bible in the world. Fantastic illustration combines with one unified story that flows through the entire book.
Page 25 :.
Check out the way the JSB starts; “There are lots of stories in the Bible, but all the stories are telling one Big Story. The Story of how God loves his children and comes to rescue them. It takes the whole Bible to tell this Story. And at the center of the Story, there is a baby. Every Story in the Bible whispers his name…this is no ordinary baby. This is the Child upon whom everything would depend. This is the Child who would one day – but wait. Our Story starts where all good stories start. Right at the very beginning…” Intriguing and inviting!
We want all children to be intrigued and invited into God’s BIG Story. So, we are giving students an ‘age appropriate’ bible they will love and want to read at school and home with you. An added bonus, their Christian Education curriculum will also use this new bible.
Stephen Brown Director of Teaching and Learning – Christian Education
Do not fear. We are still planning on giving each student the Christian College Bible with the College emblem on the front when they reach Year 5. At that age they are ready to read the grown up version. Age appropriate bibles achieve two things. First, a fascination and interest in God’s word. Second, improved literacy as they read a bible designed just for them.
