National Accommodation Recreation Tourism Accreditation Program (NARTA)® What is NARTA Accreditation, who does it benefit and why should it be on the tip of your tongue?

The NARTA Program has been designed to provide a method for organisations to show they comply with relevant National, State and Local legal operational requirements. It is an ongoing process that requires organisations to regularly review their compliance regime in line with changing community attitudes, industry best practice and legislative changes. NARTA means that you can have confidence when using an accredited site, as the organisation has performed its own checking and has been externally audited to ensure guests are visiting an organisation that; a) is aware of, and complies with, its legal obligations, b) is doing its best to continually improve, and c) cares about your welfare and has undertaken appropriate risk minimisation. A recently accredited site had this to say about the process “...it is a great tool to check that your are doing the best that you can & looking forward rather than staying stagnant. To think you are doing the right thing is not as good as knowing you are...”

“Somewhere to Go” National Directory

The NARTA Inc. Accreditation Package has been endorsed, recommended or accepted as an appropriate accreditation methodology by:-

• New South Wales Department of School Education

• Outdoor Recreation Industry Council of NSW • Christian Venues Association • Office of School Education - Victoria • Department of Education and Children’s Services, South Australia • Department of Education Tasmania • National Parks and Wildlife NSW • NSW Maritime Authority * The Salvation Army in Australia • The Baptist Union of Australia • Wesleyan Methodist Church of Australia • Antiochian Orthodox Church

• Queensland Department of Education and Training.

Accreditation of a supplier is not necessarily a requirement of these organisations, however they all recognise the value in assuring the appropriateness of facilities and services to their members or students and have indicated that in their opinion, NARTA is one such methodology. Education Departments that do not recommend or endorse any particular providers as schools or make their own decisions include:• Department of Education & Training Western Australia, which acknowledges “that schools would respond favourably towards those organisations that have gained NARTA accreditation.”

HOW DO I ENSURE THAT I AM VISITING AN ACCREDITED SITE? Firstly, you need to be aware that accreditation is not compulsory. A lack of formal accreditation does not necessarily indicate that the operation does not already have all of the requirements of accreditation in place. Centres used by state schools in Victoria must be accredited by either of the two approved programs. Centres in other states may voluntarily undertake the process as a means of raising the collective standard of camping and conferencing in Australia. Throughout this Directory, you will find accredited sites have a logo affixed to their listing and/or advertisement indication their NARTA accredited status and others are undergoing the process as this Directory is going to print. Questions & Up-to-date listing of accredited organisations? Website: www.narta.org.au Phone: (02) 4587 7155 Email: info@narta.org.au
