APPENDIX D – CHSI PEER COUNTIES

County Health Rankings has assembled community health data for all 3,143 counties in the United States. Following a methodology developed by the Centers for Disease Control’s Community Health Status Indicators Project (CHSI), County Health Rankings also publishes lists of “peer counties,” so comparisons with peer counties in other states can be made. Each county in the U.S. is assigned 30 to 35 peer counties based on 19 variables including population size, population growth, population density, household income, unemployment, percent children, percent elderly, and poverty rates. Exhibit 50 lists peer counties for New Castle County, Delaware.
