CHURCH MINISTRY ESSENTIALS MODULE 1: LEADING TEAMS AND MANAGING VOLUNTEERS
1. What aspects of your current leadership team are working well? What is not working well?
MODULE 1
Questions to Consider:
2. Do you have a clearly defined leadership structure in the church? Who is ultimately “in charge” of the vision, direction and implementation of the ministry? Is there an organizational chart that outlines the different roles of leadership?
3. What roles do you have on your leadership team? (i.e. Team members overseeing various aspects including things like communications, training, support services, liaison between the church and external partnerships, etc.)
4. Do you have a diversity of representation on your leadership team? (Some who have/are fostering/ adopting, some who have not but are involved in other capacities.) If not, what steps can you take to begin identifying new potential team members?
5. Are there clearly defined on-ramps for volunteers to engage in the ministry with varying levels of commitment?
6. To what extent is your church leadership “on-board” and in support of the ministry? How can you continue to help them gain clarity on what the ministry entails and will require?
Next Steps: If you are in the beginning stages of building a leadership team, or are in the process of making adjustments to an existing one, consider the following: •
Ensure there are clearly defined roles and expectations among the ministry leadership team.
•
Identify a variety of different types of people who might bring unique gifts and perspectives to the ministry.
•
Present a 6-12 month strategic plan to your church leadership along with messaging, scripting, goals and processes.
•
Create clear on-ramps for volunteers to engage in the ministry with varying levels of commitment.
•
Build a consistent communication stream between leadership team members, volunteers, the families you are serving and the church as a whole.
