/Type : Transportation /Location : Bandung, West Java, ID /Status : Grade A Selected for Undergraduate Program Accreditation Architecture Department by The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) /Tutor : M. Ridwan Kamil, ST, MUD ( rkamil@ar.itb.ac.id )
SITE LOCATION BANDUNG, ID
BACKGROUND Bandung is a city that has the potential to evolve to become a metropolitan city like neighboring cities, Jakarta. To support this vision, transportation is the most important issue at this time. According to the Indonesian transport development plan for the next 15 years, it would be possible transfering mode of transport in just one station or terminal only. To accommodate this, it is needed to redesigning of the station integrating mass transportation modes, such as the Trans Metro Bandung or monorail. In addition to the issue of integrating modes of transportation within the station or terminal, issue Kiaracondong region is no less important. Kiaracondong is an area in the eastern part of the city of Bandung that partly high-density residential areas. Areas with a high population density makes commercial areas into rapidly growing. Because of this, it would be very interesting if there is no other function than just a station in this area. Commercial projects such as office rental, retail, supermarket, or even apartments for the middle class could become a mixed-use option.

SITE LOCATION

BACKGROUND Indonesia is one of the world’s largest archipelago country, therefore, sea transportation become important to link between islands. On the other hand, this mode of transportation is not optimal developed in the country. Port of Tanjung Perak Passenger Terminal based on data is the second busiest port as Indonesia where there are many aspects of the design challenges ranging from the standard functions, behavior of the people and its building image as a gateway to the region. On the other hand there is a colonial building to be conserved on the site that must be considered. The goals are building that strengthens its presence as a regional gateway to meet the highest standards of comfort and becoming icon reviving the area surrounding the passenger terminal.

The exisiting terminal has a lot problems to be solved, they are unadequate spaces for the peoples and boarding passengers, poor embabarking and disembarking processes, uncomfortable facilities, unfriendly for the disabled peoples, also poor security which thugs are hanging around, in other words it is a stressfull terminal. For that reasons, I decided to designing new terminal that meet the standards for the peoples. Peoples need a terminal that comfortable, secure, adequate spaces, filled with light, clear orientation, good climate control, and good supporting facilities. 005 — Architecture Portfolio

PROJECT OVERVIEW
CONCEPTUAL SKETCH BY PRINCIPAL ARCHITECT
The design of The Galeri Nasional Indonesia (Indonesian National Gallery) complex is inspired by the beauty of the sky and the warmth of the earth with an intention similar to the heritage building of Galeri Nasional located right in the middle of the complex. The heritage building, built during the dutch-indies government era, will be framed with a gallery with an expression of greeneries representing the earth, and in the background will be the office or administrative building of the Galeri Nasional which represents the sky.

URBAN RESPONSE

EXTENDING GREEN AREA
RIVER CONNECTION
In general, the building masses of The Galeri Nasional Indonesia complex respond to two main axes. The Monas axis and The Galeri Nasional heritage building which was connected to The Gambir train station. The Monas axis is realized through the construction of an underground tunnel. The front and rear side of The Galeri Nasional complex hold interconnected open plazas as a response to The Monas area (at the front) and The Ciliwung river (at the rear).
PHASING STRATEGY
The master plan development is divided into two stages. The first stage is focused on the main area, The Galeri Nasional area. On this first stage, it is assumed that the land around The Galeri Nasional is in the acquisition process, thus the development is focused on the Galeri Nasional itself. The first stage, as the main function of The National Gallery, can be run independently. The second stage will be conducted in the subsequent development, when the land is acquired. In the second stage, the supporting facilities of this gallery complexconvention center, auditorium, and a hotel located on the north side of the complex, facing the monas and Gambir train station-will be built.

An art plaza concept will be built along the east-west axis, and art stores will be located on the north and south sides.
