Christian Guild Dear Guest,

We are delighted to present you, our valued guests, with our 2018 Hotels & Holidays brochure, featuring a comprehensive choice of new speciality and feature breaks to provide inspiration for your next holiday. We are proud to be specialists in providing Christian holidays and travel experiences for over 100 years. Our five hotels are committed to offer you, your family and friends, a high level of service in a warm and friendly environment. We strive to ensure you enjoy your holiday and the teams are ready to provide you with the very best in Christian hospitality. Our unique collection of classic hotels are situated in some of the most breath-taking grounds and scenery that Britain has to offer, including Abbot Hall Hotel bordering the Lake District, which has recently been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status — the same as the Grand Canyon.

The Board and I are committed to developing the hotels and all five sites have recently had extensive upgrade programmes which will continue through 2018. The team have developed a new selection of Holidays Further Afield offering a range of destinations for 2018. Alongside our 2018 tours we have also launched our 2020 Oberammergau packages, including an option to tailor make a tour exclusively for your private groups.

Holidays for Individuals – No Single Supplements

If you holiday alone, you’ll know that many hotels and holiday companies add a supplement to the advertised price if you’re on your own. But not at Christian Guild as we have a number of single rooms at each hotel, and at certain times of the year we have double and twin rooms as well without a single supplement.

your Speciality Breaks

Stay as you Please

There’s a wide variety of activities on offer covering everything you could possibly want: Arts & Crafts, Coach Holidays, Gardens, History & Heritage, Music & Dancing, Singles Breaks, Spiritual Breaks, and Walking Holidays. There are also fantastic Family Breaks during the school holidays (p. 5), and a range of Celebration Breaks for Easter, Christmas and New Year (p. 6–7).

Stay as you Please gives you the flexibility to do whatever you want, but with the benefit of having knowledgeable staff on hand to help you plan your stay.

If you have a hobby or want to try a new experience, then our Speciality Breaks are renowned for offering a fantastic holiday.

You can choose what you do on a Speciality Break too. So if you decide to visit a local tourist attraction during your stay, that’s up to you — you’re not obliged to take part in every activity because it’s all about you doing what you enjoy when you take a well-earned break.

Package Prices

If you decide to try a Speciality Break, then you’ll get a much better deal if you opt for our package price. Booking your accommodation and activities together is cheaper than booking separately and it means all the costs of excursions, tuition, and even, in some cases, packed lunches are paid for in advance of your holiday. The brochure package prices are for standard en-suite accommodation; just contact the hotels if you would like an alternative accommodation option.

Alongside our Speciality Break programme, we are proud to offer our truly versatile Stay as you Please option all year round (excluding Christmas and New Year).

Every one of our five classic hotels is located in a beautiful part of England, surrounded by idyllic scenery and a host of fascinating attractions. From stately homes to adventure parks and local walks, our hotel teams have plenty of information on what to see and do in the area – with the added bonus of fantastic Christian Guild discounts and in some cases, free entry passes!

Chat with our friendly staff to come up with a jam-packed programme of fun or just take a break to relax with a good book – you can do as you please with our Stay as you Please breaks. You can book a minimum of two nights for a Stay as you Please holiday to make the most of these great value flexible stays. Just call the hotel of your choice directly for prices and to book your next Stay as you Please holiday!

ituated on the southern edge of the Lake District, overlooking the expanse of Morecambe Bay, Abbot Hall Hotel is a charming country hotel with a relaxed environment. It is believed that the monks of Furness Abbey bought the land and built the first Abbot Hall in or around 1160. The present mansion, nestling in the hamlet of Kents Bank, was built in 1840 and now boasts a wide range of facilities, including a 15m heated indoor swimming pool and a children’s adventure area. For those relaxing at the hotel, there are well-appointed lounges. Diners are offered a delicious choice of home-cooked dishes, with locally-sourced produce where possible. There are also five self-catering pine lodges in the grounds – so there really is something for everyone.

It seems to be the perfect job, combining my love of talking to people with my many and varied interests.

I like to think that I am following the example of famous Cumbrian resident John Ruskin who was passionately interested in art, architecture, the environment and society, though I cannot quite claim to be the expert that he was! I do hope you will join me on my tour and I look forward to sharing my love of Cumbria with you.”

his magnificent 18th century Grade II* listed castle is set in sixty acres of grounds, ranging from grassy meadows to limestone crags. Commissioned by the great industrialist, Sir Richard Arkwright, Willersley was completed in 1796. Its most striking feature is the Well Gallery – an oval gallery with a glass dome situated in the centre of the building, with cantilevered galleries on the first and second floors. The grand building overlooks the picturesque River Derwent and stands on the edge of the stunning Peak District National Park. It is also at the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. There is a lot to enjoy in the stately surroundings of the hotel, such as a 15 metre indoor swimming pool, boules court and impressive parkland grounds.

In 2013 a group of local volunteers came together to raise money to restore Sidholme’s 1855 Gray & Davison Organ, originally commissioned by the 6th Earl of Buckinghamshire. Following their success the committee have undertaken remedial work on the 1905 model B Bechstein grand piano, allowing the organ and piano to once again be played in tandem. The group is now focusing on the seven Osler glass chandeliers, and we are pleased to announce the first phase of restoration of the main chandelier commenced in July 2017. We hope to see it fully restored and back in place before the start of 2018. Beaches & Coves

• St Ives Bay & Porthminster Beach [1]

The far south-west peninsula of Cornwall could almost be another country. It basks in an all together warmer climate – allowing plants to grow here that would struggle in most other parts of Britain – and enjoys warmer waters lapping at its abundance of sandy beaches and crashing into its dramatic coves. A European centre of tin-mining since before even Roman times (and Poldark!), there is a wealth of history and heritage embedded in the land, not to mention its fair share of myths and legends. If ‘those feet’ really did walk upon England’s mountains green, Cornwall is the most likely place they would have set down. What is more certain is that they were followed by those of John Wesley in the late 1700s.
