Professional Work

A collaboration with CPG for JTC

Punggol Creative Cluster A business park that will integrate seamlessly with the adjacent Learning Corridor, residential estates, and existing Punggol town centre. Analysis of the site of 7.8ha and the program led to a topographical building of terraced forms. The stepped form brings the buildings closer to nature, more elevated parks and incidental streetscapes, which will be linked by circulation that shapes and energizes the buildings at designated levels. A consistent and ‘thick’ facade allows fluidity between the indoor and outdoor spaces, blurring the lines between solids and voids. The facade fins are angled and spaced differently accordingly to the facing of the building.

New 3-Storey Corner Terrace Dwelling House

12JDS 12JDS is typical of a dwelling house in Singapore in that it faced a tight budget and site constraints but has an overweight program. The challenge is to arrive at a design solution that satisfy both the budget and program requirements yet unique in form. The building is made of rectilinear forms that are stacked at an angle to each other. The intersecting volumes created interesting yet functional spaces while the exterior cast shadows that accentuate the form.

Additions & Alterations

3 KAP 3KAP is a charming but dated bungalow. The client hopes to revamp the interiors while retaining much of its exterior look. Being a rental house, partitions were erected, rather haphazardly, for economic benefits. Rather than viewing this as a renovation project, the approach is a complete re-planning and sequencing of space both indoors and outdoors. The result is a coherent flow of spaces, revitalizing the old house with cohesive programming.

Conservation and Remodelling

Dalvey Estate The Dalvey Estate project is a conservation and remodelling of a house built in the colonial times. The client wanted to retain as much of the house but with new extensions that will not look out of place. Brickwork and concrete were the principal materials for the new additions, borrowing the material palate and form from the existing house. Grills and bricks of the existing house were re-purposed as walls and flooring to evoke nostalgia. The result is a dialogue between the old and the new through materiality and rhythmic patterns.

EDL Laminates Installation

Singapore Indesign 2016 Laminates have an uncanny ability to mimic materials, only their profile betrays their disguise. The first motivation of the installation is to showcase this characteristic. Rather than an art piece in a gallery, the installation seeks to be contextual. The installation attempts to ‘dematerialize’ the building through pixelation, so that the building and installation is one.

Interior Project

Scandinavia by the Sea With the ocean views accessible from every room, the motivation is to create open flowing spaces with the ability to bring the outdoors in. Walnut panelling and brick walls provide the backdrop for the mid-century modern furniture and art pieces collected by the owner. This project is a collaboration with Museum ID.

Academic Work

Final Year Thesis

Invasive Architecture Tiong Bahru is a locus of spatial and social contention, between the automobile and the pedestrian, the residents and the visitors, and ultimately, the heritage past and the gentrification of the present. It demands an infrastructural intervention with a social agenda; an ‘invasive’ infrastructure that mediates current physical conditions so as to bring about an enduring social change.

3rd Year Design Studio - Dumb Materials (Shotcrete)

Spanish Bank Lookout The studio focus on the exploratory and innovative use of shotcrete as a building material both in terms of its capability as well as its aesthetics. The final design project is a beach front public facility with a lookout point. An infrastructural intervention for bikers and pedestrians is proposed to further energize the facility.

2nd Year Design Studio - Three Obstructions for Public Architecture

Charleson Community Center This project attempts to explore the inter-relationship of the solid form and the charged void, and the dialogue between the built form and the environment as a basis for making architecture. The building is located at the threshold between the city and nature. It emerges from the land at one end and seemingly floats above the park at the other. The promenade provides the critical link between the berm and the park, creating a charged void between the wings of the building and the routes through the site.

Esherick House

Revit Modelling A Revit modelling exercise of the Esherick house by Louis Kahn. A complete set of floor plans, sections, elevations, and construction details was reproduced. The exercise concluded with a rendering of the Revit model using 3ds Max.

Architectural Representations

Drawing Architecture Drawing has a unique way of unravelling an architecture. It is speculative yet imaginative at the same time, revealing the thought process of the maker and the mystery behind the art.
