PASTOR’S BLOG GOD SAVE THE QUEEN In early 1952, Princess Elizabeth and her husband Philip set out for a tour of Australia and New Zealand by way of Kenya. On 6 February 1952, they had just returned to their Kenyan home when word arrived of the death of Elizabeth's father, King George VI. Philip broke the news to the new queen. The new monarch was asked to choose a regnal name (reign name); she chose to remain Elizabeth, "of course". She was proclaimed queen throughout her realms, and the royal party hastily returned to the United Kingdom. She and the Duke of Edinburgh moved into Buckingham Palace.

For 60 years Queen Elizabeth has tirelessly served the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth nations and on this first weekend of June 2012 we join the celebrations of a reign that has been filled with honour and integrity. Over recent years the Queen has been more open about her faith, particularly in her annual Christmas message to the Commonwealth. Whilst her own children have not always maintained their mother’s discretion and virtue our Queen has been the reliable and stable influence that a constitutional monarch should bring to a nation. During her reign the world has changed significantly and our nation along with it, and we then realize the importance of unchanging institutions around us. The Bible teaches us to pray for those who govern us …… “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live

peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour” (1 Timothy 2:1-3) So today we join with many millions of people to say congratulations your majesty and in the words of our inspirational national anthem…..God save the Queen!

SPONSOR A CHILD IN SWAZILAND As you know we have supported the Elim work in Swaziland for many years now. In partnership with Teen Challenge in Swaziland many hundreds of children’s lives have been transformed from the hopelessness of being abandoned and most being crippled by AIDS. The support we have given has built homes along with medical and educational facilities to bring hope and healing to these precious young lives. We want to join with a new project that will increase the amount of children that can be saved from the despairing situation in Swaziland. It is a child sponsorship programme where you can sponsor an individual child with a monthly donation of £22. You will have the opportunity to develop a relationship with a sponsored child by receiving letters and periodic updates on the exciting stories that are happening in their lives. As a church we can make a difference TOGETHER. If many of us began to sponsor a child we could impact a specific local community TOGETHER. Christian Life Centre could be transforming a whole group of children who live TOGETHER. It would be great if in this next year we could begin to sponsor 30 children as a church. Please speak with the member of our missions team in the foyer today for more information about how you can connect with this great project.
