With previous exhibitions across the UK, Europe and Australia, where his art has hung alongside the works of Banksy, Blu and Paul Insect, Christian is already well renowned for his pictures of edgy misfit animals paired with graffiti-styled lyrical phrases. “Famous Last Words” is now a collection of over 30 of Christian’s latest works; encompassing his well-known spray-painted, stenciled pit bull terriers and painted cows and pigs alongside a new range of animals all chosen by Christian for their ‘outsider’ status. Purposely choosing to paint animals that we more frequently see languishing with a sense of ‘fait accompli’ about their being, Christian has the unique ability to give them appeal through his synchronistic and often humorous words delivered in child-like graffiti. Through the clever pairing of animals and words, Christian’s paintings cast an unusual perspective on the human condition, but as he says ‘they are not making judgments only observations’.

In 2001, he emigrated to Australia, first living in Sydney and then Byron Bay. Already interested in the street-art movement with its unrestricted communication and immediate interaction with the public, Christian started experimenting with stencils and graphics subsequently settling on his own unique blend. As such Christian defines himself as a painter who does a bit of street-art, not a street-artist who paints.

Born in London in 1970 and educated in England, Christian gained his formal training through Central St Martins College of Art. Following this he travelled extensively across South America, Africa and Asia, eventually settling for some time to paint in Malta. It was these travels and experiences that shaped and influenced much of Christian’s perspective on the human life, leading him to often wonder how his own life would be if he, himself, had been born in a different culture.

“I used to have a big block about writing on my art, it never felt right. But then I was working with some Montessori children and we asked them to draw pictures of angels on canvases and write what they thought God was. I loved how the writing worked with the image and I’ve been doing it ever since.”
