Surrounded By God by Jimmy R. Price www.jimmyrprice.com As we go through life’s difficult and troubling times, Satan tries to tell us that God has abandoned us and that He does not care. However, Satan is a liar and the Bible tells us a much different story. Psalm 125:2 says, “As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the Lord is around about His people from hence forth even forever.” We (believers) are Surrounded by God! 1. We are surrounded by God’s Promises “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4).” God promises to never leave nor forsake us. He promises to give us eternal life through faith in His Son Jesus. God never breaks His promises. What He says He will do, He does. His promises are all around us. 2. We are surrounded by God’s Peace Millions of people are searching for peace in our troubled world today. Many look for peace through education, psychology, medicine and even war only to be disappointed and frustrated. The truth is that there is no real and lasting peace outside of a relationship with God. Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” No Jesus – No Peace! Know Jesus – Know Peace! To know the peace of God we must know the God of Peace! Believers, we are literally surrounded by God’s peace. 3. Surrounded by God’s Protection Psalm 91:11 says, “For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands.” The world we live in is a very dangerous and violent place. There is no place, public or private, that we can feel totally secure. In recent news we have even seen that worshippers were shot and killed at church during Bible Study. God’s protection appeared to be missing. However, His protection is not limited to keeping us safe from harm here on earth, but also provides for eternal security. Those believers were ushered into God’s presence where they will forever be protected by God Himself. God’s protection is all around us! 4. Surrounded by God’s Power Many individuals want power so that they may dominate other people. Nations seek power to control or even destroy other nations. This kind of power is satanic and self-defeating. 1 Peter 1:5 says, “Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” Christians are kept by God’s power, in fact the Bible says that “we are more than conquerors in Christ.” The Holy Spirit “empowers” us and equips us for service and ministry. Power to help the helpless, pray for the sick, comfort the bereaved and be a witness to the unsaved. “But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you….(Acts 1:8).” In fact, God’s power is not only surrounding us, but living in us! We are literally Surrounded by God! Surrounded by His Promises! Surrounded by his Peace! Surrounded by His Protection! Surrounded by His Power!

Sweet Little Lilly by Bob Valleau
Little Lilly’s Sunday school teacher had his five-year-old students bow their heads and say a one-sentence prayer at the end of every class. For several weeks, he would hear Lilly pray the same thing: “Lord, please make my mommy feel better.” The teacher wondered what could be afflicting Lilly’s mother. Then, one Sunday, when it was time for Lilly to pray, she was silent. “Are you okay, Lilly?” asked the teacher. Lilly mumbled, “Yes.” “Is there some reason you don’t want to pray?” “Well, I want to say more.” “That would be fine. And the reason why?” Lilly raised her head and said with the biggest grin, “Because Jesus made my mommy feel better.” “Oh? How so?” “He took her away to be with Him in heaven.”

The teacher gasped and was astonished at Lilly’s perspective about her mother’s death. Not wanting to dampen Lilly’s happiness that her mother was no longer suffering, the teacher said, “In that case, take as much time as you need, Lilly, and use as many words as you want to say.” That day, the teacher learned a valuable lesson from sweet little Lilly: It matters not what happens in life that affects us. It is how we see things that determines our joy or sadness. Story dedicated to Sonia Mae Whitt, July 17, 1935 - July 7, 2015. He is dedicated to serving Christ with his talents and lives his life Christ like. DJ's look for David’s new release on Canyon Creek Records Compilation Volume 32. Are You Blooming or Withering? Have you ever felt like trials & heartaches are so that they are chasing after you? Financial trials, illnesses & loss of loved ones are only a few of the things that can seriously change our lives. BUT, the Gospel of John chapter 15 assures us that if we remain in Him, He can use these trying times as a time of pruning. Of course a branch that is pruned brings forth new fruit. By not remaining in Him, the branch withers & is thrown away. We all experience hurt, but our Lord is always waiting with open arms to forgive, to love & to bring us into even greater fruition. He is the vine, we are the branches, apart from Him we can do nothing- we wither. I choose to stay in the vine, bear fruit & prosper through Jesus our Lord. What do you choose? Blood On The Ear by Dr. Doug DeRamus
John 13:36-38 (36) Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. (37) Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. (38) Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice. (KJV) The story goes like this. In chapter 13, Jesus had just told His disciples that one of them that ate bread with Him would betray Him. (Jn. 13:21). Jesus never made it clear to the disciples which one it was. He did tell Judas to go do quickly what he was going to do. (vs. 27) However, the other disciples thought Jesus was sending Judas to buy provisions for the feast or go give money to the poor. (vs. 29) Peter asked John to ask Jesus who would betray Him. Jesus actually told John. However, the scripture does not say that John relayed the information on to Peter. (Vs.26) It becomes pretty clear that Peter was troubled over the possibility that he was the one to betray Him. Earlier he had refused to let Jesus wash his feet until Jesus told him it was the only way that he could be a part of Him. Also, Jesus had just told Peter that he could not follow Him where he was going. Peter then begins to build the case that he would even lay down his life for the Lord. Then to top it off, Jesus questioned Peter on whether he would really lay down his life and preceded to tell him that before the cock crows he would deny Him three times. All the disciples told Jesus that they would not deny Him (Matt. 26:35) However, Peter possibly began to believe that according to the evidence that was piling up that he was the one that had the devil and was going to betray Christ. Jesus takes three of the disciples, Peter, James and John with Him into the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Instead of praying the disciples fell asleep. When Jesus came back and found them asleep, it was Peter that he called by name and questioned why they could not watch with Him for one hour. (Matt. 26:40) Jesus went back again to pray and the disciples went back to sleep. Jesus again returns only to find them asleep again. He just let them sleep and went back and prayed a third time. Coming back and finding them still asleep, Jesus spoke to them and said, the Son of man is betrayed. While He was speaking, Judas shows up having with him a great multitude of men carrying swords. Remember, Judas said to those coming to take Jesus, that the one that I kiss will be Him. Because we know the story line, it is clear that Judas is the betrayer. Put yourself in Peter's place and it is still unclear because Judas had a secret sign to betray Jesus and he came with a multitude of people.

Now, Peter grabs someone's sword and cut the right ear off of the servant of the High Priest and Jesus rebukes him again. The right ear is the ear under the Law that the Priest placed blood on, it was the hearing ear. If you are a servant of the High Priest of the Old Covenant, then your ear is in the dirt and you are going to need the High Priest of the New Covenant to pick your ear up out of the dirt and heal your hearing. This probably explains why Peter was so dejected in spirit. Seems like Jesus picked on him a lot. Maybe he had the devil. Maybe, he was the betrayer. Maybe this, maybe that. From that point, Peter followed Jesus far off and did deny Him three times. Jesus was crucified and upon His resurrection, the angel told Mary to go tell His disciples and Peter. I don't know if specifically Peter received personal mention because Peter needed the encouragement or Peter had not made up his mind if he wanted to be a disciple. Jesus appeared to the disciples and after that meeting, Peter led everyone back to his old occupation of fishing. They fished all night and caught nothing. In the morning Jesus stood on the shore and yelled out asking if they had any meat? They answered back saying that they had nothing. Jesus said to cast your net on the right side of the ship. The distance between the left side and the right side was the BLOOD. (Remember the right ear). They caught a multitude of fish and then John discerned it was Jesus and told Peter. Peter had not yet learned to separate the voice of the Lord from other voices so he had to be told by someone whose ears where cleansed by the BLOOD. Peter, fell in love with Jesus and fish became just fish. From that day forward, Peter became so strong of a disciple that he laid down his life for Christ. When Peter was set to be crucified as a martyr, history tells that Peter was crucified upside down by his request saying he was not worthy to be crucified like his Lord. "Peter, lovest thou me? Then feed my sheep". You can visit Doug DeRamus at: www.facebook.com/dougderamus

I Am Washed Clean When Mary James writes lyrics like, "Never once felt you were good enough," or "I used to sing with an empty phrase," she is writing from a well-known vantage point. It was in those deep, broken places that she found her voice and her purpose. Born to a mother who was not ready to be a parent and then faced with unfortunate circumstances in her adoptive home, Mary became convinced that her life on earth was a mistake. Living with the lie that she was unloved and unwanted, she learned something about running away...escaping into drugs and alcohol...and making harmful, painful choices. She also knows about living what you think is your dream, and still feeling unfulfilled. Though classically trained, Mary initially pursued a career in country music, performing in clubs and joining the Nashville Songwriters Association International. Relishing the opportunity to hone her craft as a singer and songwriter, in retrospect she admits that her efforts were all "very empty." At the invitation of two Christian co-workers, Mary, her children and fiance attended a play that shared the truth about sin and salvation, resulting in a life-changing night where they accepted Christ as a family. Mary's daughter remembers it as the moment when they were "washed clean." For the first time in her thirty-four years, it was clear. All the insecurities, addictions, choices and uncertainties converged with God's grace and mercy, giving Mary the assurance that had eluded her for so long. He would take her past and transform it into a beautiful platform to reach others; though the details were still fuzzy, she knew His plans would be the only plans that would fulfill her. Realizing that her gifts were from and for God, Mary's advancement to public ministry began with her serving as a worship leader at The Rock Church in San Diego. God then began to open numerous doors for her in churches, at women's retreats and other similar venues. When a producer from her country music days reached out to her about recording a Christian album, Mary recognized the Lord's timing; she would renew her dreams as an artist and songwriter, but with a new focus: devotion to God's work. Six CD's later, Mary's efforts have progressed into a full-time ministry using worship, original music, keynote messages and writing to point the broken directly to God's grace and healing. Since entering ministry in 2000, she has led worship and shared special music at events that featured leading Bible teachers such as Dr. David Jeremiah, Kay Arthur, Sheila Walsh, Shannon Ethridge, Dr. Voddie Bauchum, Greg Laurie and many others. She has been recognized on a national level for both her singing and songwriting, which include: - 2014, 2013 & 2010 Inspirational Country Music (ICM) Female Vocalist of the Year Awards - 2014 & 2013 Inspirational Country Music Top 5 Music Evangelist of the Year Nominations - 3 #1 Singles on the ICM Top 100 Chart for "Strong," "Come to the Well," and "Now That I Know Love." - 2011 Christian Women in Media President's Award
Despite the achievements, Mary never forgets the One who provides her each and every opportunity, recognizing that the big steps, little steps and even the missteps are critical. As she sings in "Well Run Dry": Lord, here I stand today by the well-spring of Your Love, it's stretching out as far as I can see. God please help to give someone the gift you've given to me. Mary knows firsthand that transformation cannot happen without a "before," and the Lord has shown her how to share her past in a way that glorifies Him. Mary's insightful and refreshing delivery of the Lord's timeless message resonates with those who not only need love and healing, but a life that experiences the abundance Jesus died to give them. Her transparent, biblically-based platform challenges audiences to invite Jesus into the most vulnerable places of the heart-where struggles such as shame, guilt, secret sin, pride, perfectionism and the "I'm too damaged" myths reside-allowing His revelation to transform their personal stories. When not traveling and serving in ministry, Mary and her husband Dan enjoy a life filled with family, friends, their dog Isaiah, books, movies and as much laughter as possible. Mary is a "wanna be" interior decorator, but admits that she only has a kitchen because it comes with the house. You can pray for Dan. Their compassion for the forgotten and vulnerable has extended into an Artist Partnership with Compassion International, who is committed to rescuing children from poverty in Jesus' name. Information about the work of Compassion can be found at: Compassion. The jewelry found at her table helps support Magpie Madness who contributes a portion of all proceeds to aiding the homeless in East San Diego County. Mary also works with Pregnancy Care Centers, Foster Care programs and any ministry devoted to helping the vulnerable find healing and lasting victory. I have heard Mike Manuel sing many times and the one thing that has impressed me most about his singing is that I have never heard him have a performance that was off track vocally or otherwise. Most singers, including myself, will have times when allergies or vocal fatigue take over and no matter how hard you work at it, those vocal chords just will not work right. Mike always has perfect vocals. That is a special gift from God. He is a singers, singer and for those of you that have never heard him preach you have truly missed a blessing. I talk a lot about the anointing that the Holy Spirit places on those who are really called to minister for Christ with their special gifts. Mike is one of the best examples I can give in reference to that anointing. You will understand why after reading Mikes story. I am proud to call him my friend. Tommy Smith
The Mike Manuel Story I got my first “real” guitar at the age of 13. It was an Alvarez Acoustic that I began to learn on and use in church. There I was, sitting on the right end of the front choir loft bench (we had 2), just playing along unplugged with an Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, & Trumpet that filled the front bench along with 5 Accordion’s spread out on the back bench! Oh I forgot the piano and organ on either end of the platform! Besides the joyful noise, there was the issue of learning to play in the “guitar unfriendly” keys of either Bb or Eb on every song. Somehow I managed to hang in there long enough to learn to play and keep my love of country music alive. Growing up my guitar was never far from me. I remember wagging it along on camping trips, vacations, etc. It was truly a companion to me. At the age of 16, I began dabbling in songwriting with my first composition “Don’t Forget To Believe”, a Christian rock song that thankfully has been laid to rest! By the time I was 18, I was travelling on weekends with our band “The Messengers” performing a lot of Hinson songs and a few of our own original songs. The band was made up of myself singing lead and guitar, Uncle Terry singing tenor, my brother Greg sang the Alto and played keys, my brother Mark played bass and our friend Kevin played drums. We had an old worn-out U-haul trailer that the previous owner had used as a deer blind. I still remember patching those rectangular holes on each side before we painted it green & white to match Dad’s Dodge van that we pulled it with! Along the way we changed our name to the “Manuel Family Band”, which gained national recognition on the Sonlite Label in 1991 with our first radio single “New Well”. We went to Nashville to record our first “real” project in 1990 at Oak Valley Studios. I can still hear my producer & engineer Kevin McManus say to us brothers “You boys need to get rid of those Brooks Brothers suits and go down to Tractor Supply and buy some Brush Popper shirts and Wrangler jeans for your CD photo! Your music don’t match your clothes!” Well, we did just that and kept our country roots alive! Continued on next page… Christian Servant Magazine - July, 2015 - Page 14

Visit Mike at his website: www.mikemanuel.com. We recorded 4 projects under the “Manuel Family Band” name with a few changes in personnel along the way which produced 3 Top 40 Singing News hits & 6 Christian Country chart toppers. It’s now 1996 and I’m finally launching a solo career singing my original songs with my debut CD “Hearts That Cheat No More”. So from that time until now I have been blessed to win many awards and enjoy a string of number one radio singles. I have travelled thousands of miles sharing the Good News through the original songs God has blessed me to write and sing. I have performed with some of the most recognized names in the Country Music Industry in prestigious places like the Ryman Auditorium. I have been blessed and highly favored, called and anointed to do what I do. After a failed marriage, I was blessed to meet and marry my wife Tish in August of 2002. Tish was an East Tennessee girl who played hard to get at first. I mean after all, here I was with four children living with me! (who would wish that on anyone). Tish’s father owned a bar and she along with her parents and two sibling’s lived above this club in an apartment. Her chores included cleaning the bar each morning. This environment no doubt played a huge role in her own bout with alcohol along the way. With an abusive “walk the line” father, Tish was surely protected by God even without realizing it at an early age. We smile when we talk of how my parents met in a bar and her parents owned a bar! Fresh out of an abusive marriage, she moved to Nashville with her two children to make a new start and better life for her children. Her stepfather, whom I had known for a few years actually had Tish book a date for me in East Tennessee before we ever got together. Tish’s mother was the one who kept trying to get us together. After many failed attempts to get her to go out with me, she did and we were soon making plans to marry. God put us together with this large blended family and today we have eight grandchildren and a wonderful God-ordained miracle of His power and Calling! Today we feel like God is just starting to manifest the big dreams and plans He has ordained for our lives. Simply stated, the best is yet to come!

Kenzie, a God given gift to the World ABANDONED AS AN INFANT: Kenzie Walker presumably was born in the Hunan Province of China sometime in October of 2003. The actual date is unsure. Not even a month old, Kenzie was abandoned at the train station, left in a cardboard box, wearing baby clothes and a little blue coat. Fortunately, sometime in the morning, a kind stranger found her there and took her to a nearby orphanage where she was taken in and provided for. Kenzie lived at the orphanage for approximately one year until an American family from Texas adopted her. From the time she was barely able to walk music exuded from Kenzie like a fountain. Her father tells a story of how Kenzie would take chopsticks and play rhythm patterns on the furniture, even before they left China to bring her home. Her mother tells of how Kenzie, as a mere toddler, would sit at the base of a grandfather clock and sing along with the chimes, in pitch. She would sing in her room, in her playhouse, the back yard, everywhere! The family learned that even the neighbors had become aware of Kenzie’s musical talent. You see, they discovered that for some time the couple living next door had been regularly and purposefully making it a point to relax out on their patio, surreptitiously enjoying Kenzie’s private concerts as she performed live from her playhouse. Kenzie is intelligent, talented and engaging way beyond her years. She loves to share her story of salvation from a train station, salvation from a Chinese orphanage and Salvation as a Child of God. Her vocal ability is on par with or exceeds that of people who’ve been having hit recordings longer than she has been on the earth. She is indeed a special child, with a special story, and a special gift. In July of 2014, Kenzie was invited to perform as an opening act for country music legend T. Graham Brown at a concert in Lubbock, TX. It just so happened that Brown's producer, Mark Carman was there as an invited guest to also appear on the program. At the insistence of Cindy Hughlett, who was already familiar with Kenzie, Carman watched her performance from the audience and as he puts it was "mesmerized". Carman said "This little girl, standing flat-footed on the stage, was plastering the back wall of a 1500 seat auditorium with sound!" Following the concert Mark met with Kenzie and her parents to discuss recording her and getting her story, her voice, her overall talent out to the public. They agreed on terms and started the process. In November of 2014, Kenzie traveled to Nashville to record her debut recording with Award Winning producer, Mark Carman at the helm. The production included some of the finest, most talented musicians on the planet. It was recorded at one of Nashville’s premier studios, "Sound Stage", with Joe Carrell as engineer. Carman presented Kenzie’s demos to John Mathis at Mansion Entertainment and she was quickly signed to the label for distribution through SONY/Red. Kenzie has just completed her new project titled, “ Kenzie, Smallest Gifts” produced by Mark Carman and associate producer Cindy Hughlett. The single ”Heaven Come Down” has just been released to radio on Canyon Creek Records radio compilation Volume 32. This young lady and her song are about to lead thousands to CHRIST. For more info on Kenzie contact Mark Carman (615) 804-4665. Christian Servant Magazine - July, 2015 - Page 16
"As humans, we look at this as a skin condition. God sees a sin condition." By Marty Smith The recent shooting in South Carolina forces us to examine ourselves and racism in America. The shooter, Dylan Roof, stated "I have no choice ... I chose Charleston because it is the most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of Blacks to Whites in the country."* It’s easy for us to say that racism is not a problem, but the sad fact is, racism is alive and well in America. But it gets worse. Racism is alive and well in the Christian community. Even today, we see and hear people complaining of seeing interracial couples together. There have been some who refuse to support a ministry because of this reason alone, saying, “I can’t support someone who is unequally yoked” not realizing that being unequally yoked has nothing to do with a person’s skin color. As humans, we look at this as a skin condition. God sees a sin condition. Imagine a potter who molds and shapes a new creation, a cup for instance. He is able to work on that cup until he makes it just like he wants it. The cups he makes are all different colors, yet they compliment each other when put together. We as the audience, look on the outside of the cup. We see the bumps and marks on the cup. We see the imperfections and criticize the cup. The potter, who is the maker of the cup, sees the inside. He sees just how beautiful the cup is and what the cup is capable of. Our Father in Heaven looks at our heart, not our skin color. Racism is alive and well in America and in the church. As believers, we need to set the standard and show the love of Christ not only in word but through actions as well. Something to think about. *http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/20/us-usa-shooting-south-carolin idUSKBN0OY06A20150620

GunnPoint The Rope Written by Randy Gunn
A story tells about a mountain climber, who wanted to climb the highest mountain. He began his adventure after many years of preparation, and since he wanted the glory for himself, he decided to climb the mountain alone. The night felt heavy in the heights of the mountain, and the man could not see anything. All was black. Zero visibility, and the moon and the stars were covered by the clouds. As he was climbing, only a few feet away from the top of the mountain, he slipped and fell into the air, falling at a great speed. The climber could only see black spots as he went down, and the terrible sensation of being sucked by gravity. He kept falling and in those moments of great fear, all the good and bad episodes of his life went through his mind. He was thinking about how close death was getting, when all of a sudden he felt the rope tied to his waist pull him very hard. His body was hanging in the air, only the rope was holding him, and in that moment of stillness he had no other choice but to scream: HELP ME GOD! All of a sudden a deep voice coming from the sky answered: "What do you want me to do?" "Save me God!" "Do you really think I can save you?" "Of course I believe you can." "Then cut the rope tied to your waist." There was a moment of silence; and the man decided to hold on to the rope with all of his strength. The rescue team tells, that the next day a climber was found dead and frozen, his body hanging from a rope. His hands holding tight to it, ONLY 10 FEET AWAY FROM THE GROUND. And what about us, how attached are we to our rope of life? Will we let go? How willing are we to put ourselves into God's hands and control? Are we able to put all of our trust in God and His way for us? Are we willing to trust our very life with God and completely yield ourselves to Him? Are we willing to submit the power of our will to the power of His will? We should never doubt God’s word or His way for us. We never should say that He has forgotten or abandoned us. Let us not ever think that He does not take care of us. Remember that He is always holding us if we have put our life in His hands. Isa 41:13 - For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you. You can contact Randy Gunn at: randyscottgunn@gmail.com

“Meek don’t mean weak.” by Roger Barkley, Jr.
I can remember a story that my dad told me about watching a man with his pulling team of horses. As a young boy in Scott County, KY horses were not only a mode of transportation but a part of the family farm. The absence of a tractor be it because of the cost of fuel, upkeep, or just the expense of a tractor to begin with, a horse could pull a wagon, pull a plow, pull trees out of the holler, or you could ride him to go fishing on the seldom seen day off. One day as he was watching a neighbor training his pulling team, he asked if he could watch. He said, “Do you mind if I watch you break your horses?” – With a scowl on the man’s face he replied, “You can watch, but I ain’t breaking ‘em, I am Meeking ‘em”. Not quite sure of what he meant, he sat on the fence post as the man went through the steps of teaching the horse who the boss was. He taught them what the difference of the reigns pulling tight and the sound of the whip meant. He taught them by the sound of his voice to stand still. He taught them that when their work was done there was a meal, cool water, and a brush down waiting for them. When the late afternoon sun had started to signal it was close to supper time, the boy was waiting by the fence to talk to the man with that puzzled inquiring look that most boys have. He said “Mister?” “How come you said you were meekin’ your horses?” The man smiled and said, “Boy, I guess you heard the song at Christmas time about “Jesus Meek & Mild” ain’t ya?” “Well,” the old man continued “Meek don’t mean weak. Ya see, if I break that horse’s spirit, he may be timid, shy, or not wanna do nothing but eat oats and hay. A work Horse is supposed to work. Meek really means that they still got all that same power, all that same spirit, all that same strength, but it is controlled through the touch of the master.” Many times I look back at that story while driving down these roads and seeing horses, I think “WOW!!” what a concept. What if we as Christians could harness all the power and strength that we have through Christ that strengthens us anyway, and would submit ourselves to the touch of the Master? If we would only let him have the reigns. If we would help strengthen our fellow Christian family and reach across denominational, musical genre, and racial lines, then how powerful would this nation become? Maybe we are not so different from those horses. We need to be the work horse we are called to be. We need to learn from the touch of the Master, the difference of when to pull and when not to pull. The difference of His voice and the voice of the world then sometimes stands still instead of running off half wild. Then at the end of our work we will get to be at the table for that marriage supper with the meal He has prepared, but even better to hear “Enter in thou good and faithful servant.” Visit Roger Barkley, Jr. at www.rogerbarkleyjr.com

Gospel News From New York & Canada by Bob Terry - (716)580-3727 - bobgterry@gmail.com Well, here it is July already and not much going on in Western New York or across the border in Canada. The Canadian groups are geared up for a full summer of singing. South Gospel of New York has several singings set from now to the rest of the year. As soon as I find out I will let you know. Let me tell you about a good friend of mine from Hamburg, Arkansas. His name is Jamie Coulter, better known as the Little Giant of Gospel Music or some call him the Skate Board Preacher. I first met Jamie when he and his family lived a street over from where I lived. A little kid came flying by on a skateboard with his mother running behind shouting “Jamie, Jamie, Jamie stop, get out of the street”. Jamie, had a rare disease called Osteogenusis Imperfecta, also known as “brittle bone disease. Jamie went through many years of operations, broken bones as well as countless trips to the hospital. He has had over three hundred broken bones and over thirty major operations. The Lord had a Journey in store for Jamie’s life. At the age of six Jamie began a ministry that would faithfully carryout for the rest of his life. He started singing at his home church. One Sunday while singing at his home church, a gospel music promoter sat in the congregation and invited Jamie to sing at a local concert. That concert opened the door of a lifetime. It was there that Jamie was invited to sing on the United Cerebral Palsy telethon in Monroe, LA. along with many Hollywood stars on the roster. Jamie sang one song, “The Crippled Boy's Prayer”. The phones began to ring and ring. Everyone wanted to hear this kid on the skateboard sing again. “The Crippled Boy’s Prayer” became Jamie’s signature song. No matter where he goes he always is asked to sing “The Crippled Boy’s Prayer”. Jamie has become a legend in his own time. Jamie has traveled the world singing and preaching the gospel with a passion for winning souls to the Lord. You can find out more about www.jamiecoulterministries.com.

As for me and my house… by John Randolph “Be on the alert, STAND FIRM IN THE FAITH, act like men and be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13 “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
The winds of change are not just blowing in our country, they are at F5 tornado levels in the last month. Since the beginning of June we have had the athlete formerly known as Bruce Jenner decide that he would be happier as a “she” and Caitlyn Jenner was born; a deranged lunatic in South Carolina entered a bible study in a church sanctuary killing nine innocent people and gasoline was thrown onto an already smoldering fire called racism; the Supreme Court of the United States chose to do something no man has the ability to do – rewrite God’s laws on marriage and gay marriage was legalized in all 50 states; and through all of this God is still God and Jesus Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father. To God Be The Glory! While “Didn’t See That Coming” may be the title of one of the songs on our soon-to-be-released new CD, you and I can rest assured that those words have never been - and will never be - verbalized in God’s Kingdom! He wrote the end of the book long before time began and the upside down twisted world that has surfaced in the last few months is no surprise to our Father. The question to you and I though is the same question that Joshua laid at the feet of the nation of Israel almost 3,500 years ago – Who Will You Serve? As I pondered on the scripture from Joshua above over the last few days, it dawned on me that while our forefathers may have believed that they were the originators of the “Freedom of Religion” moniker, the reality is it was Joshua. As Joshua stood before his people on that day, he gave them the choice to serve THE God or to serve a god. When he did this, he made it very clear that the road to God was not an expressway with multiple lanes and numerous routes. His words were very clear on that day and still are very clear today – there is only one way that leads to the foot of the cross and it is through a life that is sold out for the cause of Christ. Today’s world though will tell you different; and there are even some in today’s church that will tell you different. The scream and cry from many on the liberal side of the aisle – and even from some that profess to be Christ-followers – is that we need to stop being narrow-minded and we need to become open-minded and enlightened; that we need to stop being so judgmental and just need to open our minds to understand the other side’s position. Continued on next page… Christian Servant Magazine - July, 2015 - Page 22
Continued from previous page.
Here's the theological problem with this argument and logic - especially from professing bible-believing Christians. As we read God's word, nowhere are we told - as a believer and Christ-follower - to be open-minded. We are told to love our neighbor; we are told to love as Christ loved; we are told to not judge OUTSIDE THE BODY. We are instructed to be His hands and feet. Personally, I see all this and strive to do this daily – in all honesty though I probably fail more times than not in many of these categories. Through all of the commands and calls mentioned above though, there is not a single scripture that is found instructing God’s children to be "open minded." What we can find though is countless warnings to the church and to believers to be on guard: ● Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. - 1 Cor 16:13 Calls to be alert, awake and sober-minded: ● “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” – 1 Peter 5:8 ● “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people.” - Eph. 6:18 ● “But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.” - 1 Thes 5:4-7 ● “Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” - Luke 21:36 ● “Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.” - 1 Peter 1:13 ● “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” - Col 4:2 ● “But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, and discharge all the duties of your ministry.” - 2 Tim 4:5 ● “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” - Rom 12:2 ● “He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.” - 2 Peter 3:16-18 ● “Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard!” - Acts 20:30-31 ● “Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.” - Matt 24:4 So church, believer, Christ-follower, where is the command to be open-minded? God gave us an instruction book with several warnings. What will you do? Will you be like most men and skim through the instruction booklet ignoring the warnings and only pulling out things that you feel are good for you? Or will you stop, read, seek, pray and follow His command? As for me and my house…What’s your answer? To learn more about John, his music and his ministry, go to www.johnrandolphmusic.com. THE CROSSWISE PLAYERS by Brad Wilson
Visit Brad Wilson and Higher Purpose Entertainment at: www.higherpurposeentertainment.com A few years ago one of my dearest friends and old radio buddy, Leon McWhorter tracked me down and told me he had been working for years with an AMAZING Christian acting troupe in Dallas called “THE CROSSWISE PLAYERS.” He began to tell me about the various productions they have done and I loved them all! God using people in the entertainment industry for His glory always excites me! One of the productions they have put up was called “THE TROUBLE WITH MONEY.” A wonderful, powerful story with a comedic twist about a prominent businessman named John Money. On a regular ordinary day in Mr. Money’s life a very quirky, donut-eating Angel of Death appears and announces he’s come to take Money to the great beyond. Now with just 24 hours left on this earth Money suddenly looks at life, his family and his faith totally different. Even his money! Well this got my attention and Leon proceeded to tell me he and the Crosswise Players would like to adapt the play into a screenplay and do it as a film. As time went by Leon along with the very talented Alan Elliott went to work and soon delivered a wonderful script. The next thing you know we are in Dallas and on the set working with these dear people. The Tyler Street Methodist Church was an amazing location used in the Oak Cliff (my old stomping grounds) area of Dallas for an AMAZING powerful scene as John Money’s eyes are opened to the grace of Jesus Christ. This wonderful film is THE perfect film to watch with your entire family. Everyone who sees it will be touched in such a special way and in fact re-check their own lives and remember what is truly important. I know as a producer of the film I certainly did. What a great blessing to work with this great highly talented group of people. “ANGELS LOVE DONUTS”…A comedy about dying that will change the way you live, and renew your faith. The film is available through www.christiancinema.com and other places family and faith friendly films are sold.

What Do I Need To Do Before Heading Into The Studio? by Chip Bricker I’m often asked by the artist what they need to do before they hit the studio for the first day of recording. Let’s assume that this is a live band recording situation with staffed players, which is how it is with most pro sessions. 1. Know the direction you want your project to go. i.e. Rock, pop, bluegrass, etc. Yes, there are many artists that don’t know what they want to do with the project. They have just written a bunch of songs without thinking about how they can or should be used in their ministry. Get a producer of some counsel to help figure this out long before you book studio time. It will save you a ton of money with getting the right players, engineers etc. 2. If you are the composer of the material, please have your songs arranged and charted. (music written out as you would like it played). If you have a producer hired, then that would be the producers’ job. Either way, this will save a lot of time and money. If you are the writer and performer of the material, then please know your material. You really don’t want to pay the hired players or studio engineers to teach you your songs. You wouldn’t like it anyway. If you are getting songs from another source, then please listen and learn the lyrics and melodies to the material even if you don’t play an instrument. This too will save time and money. Some things may change in the studio, but be flexible especially if the changes that are suggested will make you and your material sound better. 3. Know your budget. Please know and work out the budget for the album with your producer or studio personnel. Don’t get caught needing more money than your budget. There is nothing more embarrassing than asking for credit terms from the studio, musicians, and production staff. You probably won’t get the credit extended to you, but if you do, you will probably be looked down upon by the session workers. Not a very good testimony. Just have your budget worked out and set aside for the project. 4. Pray. Yes, pray. Pray for the engineers, session players, and yourself. Pray that engineers, producers musicians and you will allow God to guide and direct the path for the project, and that the project will be used for the glory of God even in its infancy of being created. I have seen musicians get saved while working on a project in the studio. How you act during the session and creation of the project, and the message of the songs you record might be the only message of Christ that some of the musicians and studio staff ever hear. Even if they have heard it, this could be the only time they have really understood it. It all depends on how they receive your message in song and how believable and real they perceive you to be. Then once you have absorbed all this, Pray some more. 5. Do not announce to your friends and relatives when and where you will be recording. Outside interference can really cost you in studio time and creative time. I have seen wives and parents totally ruin a session by interrupting producers and musicians. i.e. Don’t bring a lot of unnecessary help to the studio. By not inviting them in the first place, you don’t have to ask them to leave. Continued next page… Christian Servant Magazine - July, 2015 - Page 25
Continued from previous page.
6. Listen to God’s guidance all the way through the creation process, and in the selecting of your studio, producer and musicians. Then once God gives you a peace about them, by all means, listen to their guidance. Have a great session. Until next time. God Bless, Chip Bricker

We have all heard the saying, "I would rather see a sermon, than to hear one". In this world of Christians that pass judgement on others and yet live their lives full of back biting, gossiping, and deceit, it is getting harder to lead the lost to Christ. They just don't want to be like us. Why should they? Too many of us so called Christians live a lie. There is one evangelist I know that lives the life that Christ gave us the instructions to live. Always be there to help someone in need. Be kind and love your brother the way Christ loved us. Love without condemnation. This music evangelist is Chuck Hancock. Chuck is not only an outstanding singer - songwriter but a true minister for Christ because he practices what he preaches. God has blessed Chuck and Chuck is always trying to bless others. Give and it will be given to you. I have known Chuck for a little over fourteen years now and I'm so proud to call him my friend. He has won numerous accolades in our Country Gospel music industry but has never let that go to his head. He just recently had a number one song in all four major Country gospel charts and that is rarely done. The song had Chuck’s heart and soul in it and his fans could feel that. "Jesus Broke That Bottle" has been nominated as one of the Top 10 songs of the year by the ICGMA members for the year 2015. Chuck has released his singles to radio on Canyon Creek Records and HMG Nashville and both companies are honored to have him as an artist. Just Whisper Jesus by Terry Davis www.terrydavismusic.com
Over 2000 years ago, a question was asked and recorded in Matthew 22:42; and it continues to be the key question in the universe. What think ye of Christ? To the artist… To the architect… To the astronomer… To the baker… To the banker… To the builder… To the carpenter … To the doctor … To the educator… To the farmer…
He is the Altogether Lovely He is the Chief Cornerstone He is the Sun of Righteousness He is the Bread of Life He is the Hidden Treasure He is the Sure Foundation He is the Door He is the Great Physician He is the New & Living Way He is the Sower & the Lord of the Harvest
Friend, what think ye of Christ? What is Christ to you? In Matthew - He is the Friend of Sinners. In Psalms - He is the Horn of Salvation. In John - He is the Word, the Way, the Truth & the Life. Speaking in the terms of the day, He is the ANSWER to all your problems; He is HOPE! Jesus is the only name given whereby men might be saved. Yes! There is power in the name of Jesus! Have you called on His name today? What is Jesus to you? Have you come to terms with the man in charge? There are no forms to fill out, no membership, and no waiting period. It doesn’t matter who you know, or where you’ve been. He’s the final word. He doesn’t have a business card. No cell phone to get in touch with the most powerful man in the universe. Just whisper His name and He’s there.
Just whisper, “JESUS!”

He is very sincere about the Christian Music Ministry field and knows the power that it has to bring the lost to CHRIST. The Sunrise Show is syndicated and can be heard on all of these stations: KALH FM 95.1 Alamogordo, NM., KWHW AM-FM Altus, OK., www.KingCountryradio.org, Inspirational Country radio 94.1 Abilene, TX., And www.heavenscountry.com, Durango, CO. Jim has many duties at KROZ, such as production work, sales, and so much more. It is not always easy to catch him but if you email a message and leave a number he will get back. Now I will tell you that Jim is honest and if he feel’s your song is not right for his format he is going to tell you. Do not let this bother you. Just thank him for listening and send him the next single you release to radio. That one just might work for him. Never burn a bridge with a DJ or a radio station. All of us receive more product each week than we can possibly play. We all look for that special song that will fit our audience. Keep this in mind; audiences on the East Coast could have a different taste for Gospel music than an audience on the West Coast. This will also determine whether a song gets played. Here is his contact info: The Sunrise Show P O Box 6034, Roswell, New Mexico, 88202 or email jimtucker@sunriseshow.net. Visit Jim Tucker on the web at: www.sunriseshow.net
