REDERED MODEL SHOWING SCALE OF INDIVIDUAL SECTIONS
DAHLIA FLOWER INSPIRED THE SHAPE OF MY DESIGN- I WANTED TO EXPLORE THE SCALE OF THE OBJECT FROM SMALL TO LARGE- AS DEMONSTRATED THROUGH THE THREE SIZED PANELS- WHICH REPRESENT THE VARIATION IN SIZE OF THE DAHLIAS PETALS THIS IS ALSO SEEN IN MY PRECIDENT
THIS LAYERING AND SCALE VARIATION IS ALSO SEEN IN MY CLAY MODEL

I WAS INSPIRED BY THE TRIANGULAR SHAPES REPRESENTED BY THE RECIPE FOR MOVEMENT-
THIS PROTOTYPE WAS ORIGINALLY UNSUCESFULL IN MODULE TWO BUT I DECIDED TO TRIAL IT AGAIN THIS TIME WITH CUTS ( INSPIRED BY MOVEMENT)
MODULE TWO : DESIGN
BY ADDING CUTS I WAS ABLE TO CREATE A FAR MORE SUCCESFUL PROTOTYPE. I THEN USED THIS AS INSPIRATION FOR MY FINAL 3-DIMENSIONAL PANEL.
FABRICATION: Design | Panel two
MODULE ONE : IDEATION RECIPE: SYMMETRY
I WAS INSPIRED BY THE WAY THE LINES DRAW THE EYES ATTENTION TO THE CENTER- BY MANIPULATING LIGHT THROUGH CUTTING OUT DIFFERENT SIZED PANELS I HOPED TO ACHIEVE THIS

PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED:
USE OF GLUESTICK WAS NOT EFFECTIVE AT ALL IT RESULTED IN BREAKAGE WORPING AND A VERY UNSTABLE AND FLEXABLE STRUCTURE. THUS FOR MY FINAL MODEL I CONSIDERED THE USE OF A FRAME AND AN ALTERNATIVE ADHESIVE
PVA GLUE RESULTED IN SHINY PATCHES, & BEAKAGE OF PAPER.
COMPLETED FORM OF PANEL TWO BOTTOM LAYER PROTOTYPE OF PANEL ONE : I WAS HAPPY WITH THE SHAPE OF THE FORM AND THE WAY LIGHT WAS EXTRUTED THROUGH THE CUTS BUT I FELT IT WOULD BE BETTER TO USE BLACK CARD INSTEAD SO I COULD HAVE CONTRASTING COMPONENTS.

FABRICATION: Constructing
PANELS CLIPS USED TO JOIN SECTIONS ADHERED WITH PVA
FABRICATION: Constructing
Ribbing was used to support some sections- this was due to the flexibility and weakness of prototype one
CONSTRUCTION OF TOP SECTION ONE
SOME PEICES WERE VERY DIFFICULT TO JOIN TOGETHER WHICH RESULTED IN UNDESIRABLES FINISHES AND WEAKENED JOINTS
USING RHINO I CREATED A 25 GRID- I THEN EXTRUDED THIS- AND CREATED PANELS- I CHOSE ONLY TO USE SOME OF THE PANELS AS I DIDNT WANT TO OBSTRUCT LIGHT FILTRATION
iT WAS SOMEWHAT DIFFICULT TO JOIN THE BLACK CARD LAYER TO MY MODEL- MAKING IT APPEAR NOT AS CLEAN AS I WOULD OF LIKED

FABRICATION: Readings Q: Briefly outline the various digital fabrication processes. List constrains and opportunities provided for you through the use of CNC cut cutter or laser cutter? There are a number of digital fabrications processes now available for use as outlined in Architecture in the Digital Age. One of the most common of these fabrication processes is the CNC cutter. Two-dimensional fabrication can be achieved through the Plasma arc, which uses an electric arc passed through compressed gas, which is then heated into plasma converted back to gas and then passes heat to the cutting zone. Also the laser beam, which can only cut materials that, can absorb light energy through a high intensity beam of infrared light in combinations with a jet of highly pressurized gas. And finally the water jet that is capable of cutting much thicker objects up to 38cm through using highly pressurized water mixed with solid abrasive particles. LASER CUTTEROnly materials that absorb light energy can be cut Material up to 16mm Relatively cost effective Q: Describe one aspect of the recent shift in the use of digital technology from design to fabrication? How does the fabrication process effects your lantern construction? Digital media and emerging technologies are now expanding what we conceive to be formally, spatially and materially possible. New technologies are now allowing people to make things themselves- this was discussed in the lecture regarding the young boy making a remote control car from information sourced via the internet. People have more access to technology and it is becoming increasingly advanced.
