DAHLIA FLOWER INSPIRED THE SHAPE OF MY DESIGN- I WANTED TO EXPLORE THE SCALE OF THE OBJECT FROM SMALL TO LARGE- AS DEMONSTRATED THROUGH THE THREE SIZED PANELS- WHICH REPRESENT THE VARIATION IN SIZE OF THE DAHLIAS PETALS

THIS LAYERING AND SCALE VARIATION IS ALSO SEEN IN MY CLAY MODEL

MODULE ONE : IDEATION RECIPE: MOVEMENT

I WAS INSPIRED BY THE TRIANGULAR SHAPES REPRESENTED BY THE RECIPE FOR MOVEMENT-

MODULE TWO : DESIGN PANEL FABRICATION TESTING WITH LIGHTING

THIS PROTOTYPE WAS ORIGINALLY UNSUCESFULL IN MODULE TWO BUT I DECIDED TO TRIAL IT AGAIN THIS TIME WITH CUTS ( INSPIRED BY MOVEMENT)

MODULE TWO : DESIGN

BY ADDING CUTS I WAS ABLE TO CREATE A FAR MORE SUCCESFUL PROTOTYPE. I THEN USED THIS AS INSPIRATION FOR MY FINAL 3-DIMENSIONAL PANEL.

MODULE ONE : IDEATION LECTURE INSPIRATION : ISLAMIC PANELS AND DIFFUSION OF LIGHT

MODULE ONE : IDEATION RECIPE: SYMMETRY

I WAS INSPIRED BY THE WAY THE LINES DRAW THE EYES ATTENTION TO THE CENTER- BY MANIPULATING LIGHT THROUGH CUTTING OUT DIFFERENT SIZED PANELS I HOPED TO ACHIEVE THIS

PROTOTYPES OF CUSTOM PANELS

FABRICATION: Design |construction of fabcation one (prototype) REVIEW:

There were a number of problems that occured in the fabrication of my first lantern ( Prototype). My intention was to produce a lantern with three round sections, with each one being larger then the previous as inspired by my recipe. Unfortuently the bottom layer of each section was unrolled incorrectly- due to time restrictions my only option was to fabricate it using the 3 layers i had succesfully produced. This had undesirable results, and did not appear at all how I intended it to. Poor choice of adhesives also had undesirable results- I atempted to use staples and doeuble sided tape and PVA glue. The glue and tape were to weak to hold the numerous panels together and the staples appeared untidy. This not only resulted in my decision to change my panels to a 2-dimensional form but seek a stronger less visable adhesive.
